Gaza rescuers say Israeli forces kill 34 as ceasefire momentum builds - War on Gaza
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said a day earlier that his country's "victory" over Iran had created "opportunities".
His comments raised hopes for a new ceasefire in the conflict that has created dire humanitarian conditions in Gaza.
Key mediator Qatar said Monday that "momentum" had been created by the Iran-Israel ceasefire.
"We won't hold our breath for this to happen today and tomorrow, but we believe that the elements are in place to push forward towards restarting the talks," foreign ministry spokesman Majed Al-Ansari told journalists.
Deadly Gaza strikes
Meanwhile, on the ground, Gaza's civil defence agency said that 34 people had been killed by Israeli strikes or gunfire since midnight.
Civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal told AFP that "11 people (were) killed near aid distribution points in the central and southern parts of the territory."
Eyewitnesses and local authorities have reported repeated killings of Palestinians near distribution centres over recent weeks.
Samir Abu Jarbou, 28, told AFP by phone that he had gone with four relatives to pick up food aid in an area of central Gaza around midnight.
"Suddenly the (Israeli) army opened fire, and drones started shooting. We ran away and got nothing," he said.
"The situation is catastrophic. We are suffering from terrible hunger. My only wish is to succeed in getting a bag of flour to feed my seven siblings."
Bassal said 23 people were killed in at least seven separate strikes across the territory, mainly in the north.
Restrictions on media in Gaza and difficulties in accessing many areas mean AFP is unable to independently verify the full tolls and details provided by rescuers.
Evacuation order
Israel's military issued a fresh evacuation order on Monday for several areas in and around Gaza City.
"For your safety, immediately evacuate further westward and southward toward Al-Mawasi," the military's Arabic-language spokesman Avichay Adraee posted on X.
Despite being declared a safe zone by Israel, Al-Mawasi has been hit by repeated strikes.
Israel's war on Gaza has killed at least 56,531 people, mostly women and children.

Egypt's PM tells Palestinian PM that Rafah crossing is working 24/7 for aid
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Sunday stressed that Egypt would continue to provide all necessary support to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing, which he said is operating around the clock, during a meeting with his Palestinian counterpart Mohammad Mustafa. Madbouly reiterated Egypt's solidarity with the Palestinian people and its commitment to their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also reaffirmed Egypt's complete rejection of the continued policies of home demolitions and settlement expansion in the Palestinian territories. The prime minister confirmed that Egypt's intensive efforts continue within international forums and as a mediator with Qatar and the United States, aiming to secure a ceasefire, ensure the sustainable entry of more humanitarian aid, and convene the Cairo conference for early recovery and reconstruction. He stressed Egypt's adherence to the unity of the Palestinian territories in the West Bank and Gaza Strip under the leadership of the Palestinian Authority. Madbouly also highlighted the importance of implementing the outcomes of the New York conference on a peaceful settlement and the two-state solution, which was held under the presidency of Saudi Arabia and France on July 28. For his part, Mustafa said the current challenges necessitate further coordination and consultation. He thanked all Egyptian state institutions for their efforts in supporting the Gaza Strip and said the Palestinian side was counting on Egypt's continued role. The Palestinian prime minister also discussed the communications he has had with several donor countries in preparation for the reconstruction phase in Gaza, confirming that they are working on all related aspects, including plans, financing, and implementation methods. Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty praised the level of coordination between the two sides, particularly regarding preparations for the reconstruction conference, and stressed the importance of simultaneously maintaining the political horizon for resolving the Palestinian issue, represented by the two-state solution. The Egyptian delegation included the ministers of foreign affairs, higher education, and social solidarity, as well as the Egyptian ambassador to Ramallah. The Palestinian delegation included the ministers of interior, health, planning, and social development and relief, as well as the Palestinian ambassador to Cairo.

Palestinian PM Arrives in Cairo to Discuss Gaza Ceasefire, Reconstruction Efforts
Nada Mustafa The media office of Palestinian Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Mohammad Mustafa announced his arrival in Cairo to discuss halting the Israeli aggression on Gaza. He is scheduled to meet today with Egyptian PM Dr. Mostafa Madbouly during his official visit to Egypt, where talks will focus on ending the assault on Gaza and advancing reconstruction plans for the Strip. According to the statement, Dr. Mohammad Mustafa will also meet with Egyptian Foreign Minister (FM) Badr Abdelatty at the Cabinet headquarters to discuss the catastrophic humanitarian and medical situation in Gaza, as well as Egypt's ongoing efforts to achieve a ceasefire and secure the entry of humanitarian aid into the enclave. The media office further revealed that Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa and Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty will hold a joint press conference tomorrow, Monday, at the Rafah border crossing, following an inspection of the crossing facilities and warehouses designated for humanitarian and relief aid storage for Gaza. The visit will also include a tour of the field hospital operating in the area.
