The Washington Nationals have taken an unconventional — and utterly adorable — approach to bolster their clubhouse atmosphere. Bruce the Bat Dog, a 21-month-old golden retriever with a flawless 1.000 retrieving average, has been officially called up from Triple-A Rochester to make his major league debut on Saturday, June 14.
While he won't be scooping up bats during actual gameplay, Bruce will be honored in a ceremonial role before the game against the Miami Marlins, as part of the Nationals' 'Pups in the Park' celebration.

Bruce is making history with his big league call-up
Bruce's promotion marks a first-of-its-kind milestone for the Nationals organization. Having made his professional debut in September, Bruce quickly became a fan favorite in Rochester with his charm, discipline, and relentless work ethic.
The Nationals have now given him a chance to shine on baseball's biggest stage — even if only for a day.
'Our fans and front office are always excited to see our players get promoted to the Nationals, but Bruce's promotion is a historic callup to the big leagues that he richly deserves,' said Rochester Red Wings general manager Dan Mason.
And it wasn't just another press release announcement. In true baseball fashion, Bruce was treated like any top prospect.

Rochester manager Matt LeCroy personally delivered the news in a heartwarming video that quickly went viral. Sitting at his desk, LeCroy looked across at the attentive retriever and said, 'Hey, come on in big dog, have a seat. ... I have some news for you, I think you're gonna like it.'
Bruce's major league moment will include a press conference, a special pregame recognition, and an honorary bat retrieval ceremony at Nationals Park.
The day also features Wolf Trap Animal Rescue, who will be stationed at Section 143 with adoptable pups in their WTAR Puppy Lounge — making the whole experience a perfect blend of baseball and pawsitivity.
'Nobody makes people smile more than Bruce, and I'm sure he'll do a WOOFtastic job for the Nats!' Mason added. 'He has proven himself to be ready for the show in a very short time and has earned the phenom status that has been bestowed upon him.
He'll put on a doggone great show for Nats fans on June 14.'
Although Bruce will return to Triple-A duties after his big league cameo, the Nationals made it clear that this moment was well-earned. They even noted in their announcement, 'There are no rules that say a dog can't play baseball.'
From tail-wagging dedication in the minors to headlining a major league event, Bruce the Bat Dog has truly become the Nationals' top 'paw-spect.'

Soto, Alonso and McNeil rally Mets past Nationals 5-4 in 10 innings
NEW YORK — Jeff McNeil doubled home the winning run in the 10th inning and the New York Mets rallied past the Washington Nationals 5-4 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series between NL East foes. Juan Soto hit a solo homer and an RBI double for the Mets against his original team. He also threw out a runner at home plate from right field. Pete Alonso delivered a tying single in the eighth after Soto's two-out double trimmed it to 4-3. New York , which has the best record in the National League, has won four straight and 13 of 16 to move 19 games over .500 for the first time since finishing 101-61 in 2022. CJ Abrams homered, doubled twice and drove in two runs for the Nationals. Nathaniel Lowe launched a two-run homer off Griffin Canning in the first, and MacKenzie Gore pitched six steady innings in his latest terrific performance. The left-hander had six strikeouts, taking over the major league lead with 114, and walked none. Washington pitchers retired 12 straight batters before Starling Marte drew a two-out walk from Jose A. Ferrer in the eighth. Soto laced an RBI double that eluded diving right fielder Robert Hassell III for New York's first hit since the fourth, and closer Kyle Finnegan was summoned to face the red-hot Alonso. He lined a single off the left-field wall that tied it 4, but was thrown out at second trying for a double. Reed Garrett pitched a perfect inning before McNeil lined the first pitch from Cole Henry into right field to score pinch-runner Luisangel Acuña, the automatic runner placed at second base. Soto homered to left-center in the third. He said something after connecting and then stared down Gore a couple of times as he rounded the bases. The two were traded for each other as part of a 2022 blockbuster that also sent Abrams, Hassell and James Wood from San Diego to Washington. Alonso has 19 RBIs in his last nine games. ... Gore has permitted just three runs and four walks in 25 innings over his past four starts, leaving him with a 2.88 ERA this season. Nationals RHP Jake Irvin faces LHP David Peterson in the middle game of the series Wednesday night. MLB: /MLB

Travis Kelce's drug confession could test Taylor Swift's limits in their high-profile relationship
Taylor Swift's relationship with Travis Kelce faces scrutiny as an old interview resurfaces (Getty Images) As Taylor Swift continues to dominate global headlines with her record-breaking music tours and carefully protected persona, her relationship with Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce is also drawing intense public scrutiny. Now, a resurfaced interview from Kelce's past may be raising concerns—not just among fans, but potentially for Swift herself. Travis Kelce's resurfaced marijuana confession may be the biggest relationship red flag yet During the interview, Travis Kelce casually revealed that a large number of NFL players use marijuana during the offseason, saying many simply 'taper off' before the league's short testing window begins. 'I would say about 50 to 80 percent of the league,' Kelce estimated, referring to players who regularly use cannabis. While his comments may seem like harmless honesty to some, in the context of Swift's ultra-controlled public image, this kind of off-the-cuff candor could be problematic. Swift is known not just for her musical talent but for her exceptional brand management. She rarely speaks publicly about drama, opting instead to craft her messages through lyrics, carefully timed posts, or subtle metaphors. For someone who famously steers clear of controversy unless absolutely necessary, being linked to a partner who once disclosed locker room secrets—and admitted to past drug use—could be a reputational red flag. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play Chess on Your PC, Free Play Classic Chess Install Now Undo Especially since Kelce's drug-related past isn't limited to comments. Back in college, the tight end was suspended during his sophomore year at the University of Cincinnati for reportedly failing a drug test for marijuana. That incident likely impacted his NFL draft position. Although he has bounced back with an elite career, such past moments remain embedded in his public narrative. Swift's romantic history has already been shaped by public heartbreak and reputational fallout. Whether it's controversial exes or social media spats with former friends, she's learned to keep her circle tight and her tolerance for drama low. In Kelce, fans see a genuine, fun-loving personality—but Swift may be calculating what these resurfaced remarks could mean for her long-term image. But in Taylor Swift's world, even a minor misstep from her partner can become a major media firestorm—and she knows better than anyone how easily narratives can turn.
