AMMAN — President of the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry Fathi Jaghbir has highlighted the importance of bolstering economic cooperation between Jordan and Syria in a way that serves the shared interests of both neighbouring countries.
Speaking at the Jordanian-Syrian Economic Forum and Exhibition, which commenced on Monday in Damascus, Jaghbir noted that 42 Jordanian companies are participating in the accompanying exhibition.
These companies represent key sectors vital to Syria's reconstruction efforts, including infrastructure, construction materials, energy, and engineering industries; sectors where Jordan has strong competitive capabilities, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.
Jaghbir highlighted the significance of Jordanian participation in opening new opportunities for Jordanian products in the Syrian market and stressed the importance of strengthening bilateral economic ties.
He also called for building on the historic relationship and mutual interests between the two countries to foster a more conducive environment for expanded economic cooperation.
Jaghbir also urged easing restrictions on the movement of goods and financial transfers, saying such measures would facilitate trade flows and improve the investment climate in Syria.

Syria's government seizes all Captagon production labs

Syrian Interior Minister Anas Khattab on Wednesday said the government had seized control of all Captagon laboratories in the country. "We were able to stop their production and confiscate all production facilities, and we are in the process of uncovering hidden drugs,' Mr Khattab said in a TV interview with Alikhbaria. "There are now no more factories producing Captagon in Syria." Most of the factories, of which he said there were dozens, were "in the Damascus countryside and a large number in the Lebanese border area", and on the coast. The stimulant Captagon has been a major unofficial export for years, with producers in Syria earning large profits as it became a popular recreational drug in the Middle East and beyond. Since the toppling of former president Bashar Al Assad in December, the government in Damascus has vowed to work internally and with other countries in the region to crack down on the production and trafficking of Captagon. In April, Syrian authorities seized four million Captagon pills concealed inside thousands of metal bars in Latakia, the Interior Ministry said. In early May, the Lebanese military discovered and dismantled a laboratory used to produce the drugs in a raid near the border. 'Since the first day of liberation [from the Assad regime], we have co-ordinated with countries affected by drug trafficking, most notably Saudi Arabia and Jordan, and we have been able to seize numerous shipments and equipment used in drug production,' Mr Khattab said. He said a restructuring of the ministry aimed to "change the concept of security so that it becomes a source of safety for Syrians, not a source of anxiety".

FM Nafti opens Tunisian-Danish Business Forum, positions Tunisia as Africa's commercial gateway

Tunis - Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Mohamed Ali Nafti, opened the Tunisian-Danish Business Forum at the headquarters of the Danish Chamber of Commerce in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was joined by a delegation of Tunisian businesspeople from the Confederation of Tunisian Citizen Enterprises (CONECT), as well as a delegation of their Danish counterparts. During his visit to the Kingdom of Denmark, Nafti emphasised that this business forum reflects the eagerness of economic actors in Tunisia and Denmark to explore new partnership opportunities in vital areas such as clean energy and technology. It also demonstrates their desire to capitalise on the significant potential available in both countries, thereby strengthening economic cooperation and doubling trade exchanges over the next three years, according to a press release issued by the ministry this evening. The foreign minister highlighted three sectors on which to focus to form a solid basis for the Tunisian-Danish partnership: pharmaceuticals, agricultural production technologies, and digital services. "Tunisia is the natural gateway that Denmark can use to access African markets, thereby strengthening its position as a regional centre for trade and investment," he stressed. Nafti called on businesspeople from both countries to use this important forum to establish solid economic partnerships and noted the Tunisian government's commitment to facilitating trade and creating a favourable investment climate through the establishment of legislative frameworks that stimulate economic activity in various sectors. According to the press release, the forum included the organisation of B2B meetings between Tunisian and Danish economic actors, with the aim of exploring ways to strengthen cooperation and partnerships in various economic sectors. These will be discussed further at the next meeting of the "Nordic-Tunisian Sustainable Business Forum," which is to be held in Tunis in October. The Minister of Foreign Affairs concluded his visit to Denmark — the second stop on his tour of several Scandinavian countries — by meeting members of the Tunisian community living in Denmark. © Tap 2022 Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
