Jaghbir: Smear Campaigns Against Jordan's Support for Gaza Are 'Unjust and Unacceptable Denial' - Jordan News

Fathi Jaghbir, President of both the Jordan and Amman Chambers of Industry, affirmed that smear campaigns targeting Jordan's role in supporting Gaza constitute 'unjust and unacceptable denial' and a distortion of a longstanding national commitment led by His Majesty King Abdullah II. He emphasized that the industrial chambers have been a key part of this effort since the first day of the Israeli aggression on Gaza. اضافة اعلان In a press statement, Jaghbir said the chambers of industry in Jordan launched a large-scale campaign on October 9, 2023, to collect financial and in-kind donations for Gaza, in full coordination with the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO) to ensure that aid reaches the Strip swiftly and effectively. 'What we are witnessing in terms of incitement campaigns against Jordan and attacks on its embassies is an unacceptable distortion—not just of institutions but of Jordan's steadfast and principled role in supporting the Palestinian people,' Jaghbir said. He stressed that all Jordanians reject any attempts to diminish or deny Jordan's contributions, affirming that supporting Gaza is a national duty and an honor, not merely symbolic solidarity. Jaghbir underlined that the industrial chambers worked in full partnership with the JHCO to be part of a comprehensive national effort led by Jordan's leadership in support of Gaza—an effort that has never ceased, despite mounting challenges and pressures. He warned that attempts to discredit this role, whether through targeting Jordanian institutions or inciting against the Kingdom, are a direct attack on a firm official and popular stance that is non-negotiable. 'What's happening—this deliberate defamation of Jordan—is a blatant disregard for facts,' he concluded, stressing that standing with Gaza has never been up for debate, but is a united national choice made by both the state and the people.

World Cup qualification opens door to new economic opportunities

AMMAN — Jordan's historic qualification for the FIFA World Cup presents a rare opportunity to drive economic growth and stimulate key industrial sectors, according to Chairman of the Jordan Chamber of Industry Fathi Jaghbir. In a statement to The Jordan Times, Jaghbir said that 'the World Cup momentum offers a powerful platform to restore consumer confidence in locally manufactured goods and position Jordanian products more competitively.' Despite ongoing regional challenges impacting supply chains and export routes, Jaghbir noted that Jordan's industrial sector recorded one of its strongest performances in two decades during the first third of 2025. Economist Waseem Hussein told The Jordan Times that linking national economic planning with a global event like the World Cup is a 'strategic move' that can create both branding momentum and long-term investment incentives in the industrial sector. 'This is a moment for Jordan to establish durable trade ties,' said economist Rand Khoshman, emphasising that national pride sparked by the World Cup should translate into expanded trade outreach and industrial promotion. Khoshman also pointed to potential spillover benefits for sectors such as packaging, printing, and logistics — provided they are prepared to scale rapidly and forge connections with international markets. 'Timing is critical,' she noted. Jaghbir concluded by underscoring the need for a coordinated national industrial marketing strategy grounded in authentic public-private sector cooperation, aimed at capitalising on untapped export potential.

Jordan: Industry minister highlights keenness to develop sector's competitiveness in local, export markets

AMMAN — Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply Yarub Qudah on Sunday stressed the ministry's keenness to develop the national industry and enhance its competitiveness in the local and export markets. Qudah made his remarks during a ceremony held by the Amman Chamber of Industry (ACI), in honour of the first 100 companies joining the "Made in Jordan" programme, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The minister said that the government is coordinating with the industrial sector to solve any obstacles that may face national industries through follow-up and taking necessary measures. He noted that there are promising opportunities to increase Jordanian exports from various sectors due to the "high quality" of these industries. For his part, Chairman of the Jordan and Amman chambers of industry Fathi Jaghbir pointed out that the "Made in Jordan" programme has become a 'prominent' national system that enjoys the support of various ministries, official institutions and the private sector. Jaghbir stressed that the partnership with the public sector has proven its "effectiveness" in solving many issues and obstacles facing the industrial sector. He noted that the industrial exports constituted 94 per cent of the total national exports and 62 per cent of the investments benefiting from the Investment Environment Law at the end of last year. Head of the "Made in Jordan" Programme Mohammed Shair highlighted the importance of the incentives that ministries and institutions will provide to Jordanian industrial companies. He stressed that the programme's new strategy aims to offer "high-quality" national products at "reasonable" prices and targets building trust and enhancing credibility among consumers in the local and international markets. Head of the programme said that the standards of quality have been determined with regard to placing the "Made in Jordan" logo on any local product based on the Jordanian and international quality marks owned by industrial companies. Shair added that the programme, overseen by the ACI, aims to encourage national industrial companies to "actively" engage in placing the programme logo on their products and meeting the requirements. He noted that the programme works in cooperation with the government entities to provide procedural incentives, which include facilitating and simplifying procedures and granting fast-track transactions of corporates that have obtained the logo, in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Supply.

Jordan's general industrial index grows by 2% in Q1 2025

AMMAN — The Kingdom's industrial index recorded a 2 per cent increase during the first quarter of 2025 compared to the same period last year, driven by 'strong' performance across various sectors and sub-indices. President of the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) Fathi Jaghbir said that the growth was achieved despite regional and international challenges that placed 'significant' pressure on the Kingdom, especially on its economic sectors, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. He praised the resilience of the industrial sector, which has continued to grow and boost its presence locally and internationally. Jaghbir noted that the overall performance indicators reflect a 'noticeable' improvement and optimism within the sector. Based on feedback from industrial companies, over 60 per cent of industrial entrepreneurs expressed confidence in improved performance in the coming months, he said. The president added that this is seen as a 'positive' sign of ongoing trust in the industrial sector and its vital role in driving national economic growth. He noted that seven out of 10 industrial sub-sectors experienced positive growth during the first quarter. Leading the way was the chemical and cosmetics sector, which grew by 11 per cent, followed by packaging with 9 per cent, and leather and textiles with 7 per cent, he said. Jaghbir said that other sectors showing growth included plastics and rubber (6.6 per cent), construction (6.2 per cent), wood and furniture (4.2 per cent) and the food, agricultural and livestock industries (2.8 per cent). Regarding the sub-indices that comprise the overall index, Jaghbir noted that employment increased by 6.2 per cent, while industrial exports saw a rise of 15 per cent. The industrial production index grew by 2.7 per cent, and the industrial survey index improved by 6 per cent, he added. Jaghbir stressed that regional developments have introduced additional challenges and uncertainty for the industrial sector, reiterating Jordan's resilience and the sector's ability to turn these challenges into opportunities. He cited past crises as evidence of the sector's adaptability and strength. The JCI's Department of Studies and Strategies regularly publishes the index, providing insights into the sector's performance and outlook. © Copyright The Jordan Times. All rights reserved. Jordan: JCI urges industrial establishments to benefit from transformer subsidy programme

AMMAN — The Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) has called on industrial establishments across various sectors to benefit from the programme subsidising the cost of purchasing electrical transformers, supported by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources through the Rural Electrification Directorate. The JCI said that the programme was launched following continuous follow-up by the chamber and with the support of Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, who expressed interest in expediting its implementation in response to the needs of the industrial sector and in support of its expansion plans. The chamber added that the programme aims to enable factories to develop their infrastructure and ease their financial burdens, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. It allows factories located within industrial estates to obtain a subsidy covering 25 per cent of the cost of a transformer, with a maximum of JD60,000 per factory. Factories located outside industrial estates and outside regulated planning boundaries are eligible for a subsidy covering 100 per cent of the transformer's cost, up to a maximum of JD60,000. The programme excludes factories located within planning boundaries but outside industrial estates. JCI President Fathi Jaghbir stressed the importance of the programme as a 'practical' step to support the competitiveness of the industrial sector in the Kingdom, highlighting the chamber's commitment to facilitating access to various support programmes in cooperation with relevant government bodies. He noted that the chamber, through its Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability in Industry, is continuously receiving applications from factories and assisting them in completing the application requirements in direct coordination with the Rural Electrification Directorate at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources. Jaghbir noted that since the beginning of this year, 16 factories have benefited from the programme, receiving a total of JD319,000 in subsidies. He stressed that efforts are ongoing to reach more eligible factories, with over 20 applications currently under review. The chamber urged factories wishing to benefit from the programme to contact the Centre for Energy and Environmental Sustainability in Industry at the chamber for guidance and assistance throughout all stages of the application process. © Copyright The Jordan Times.
