Asgreen solos to Giro stage 14 win, Del Toro strengthens grip on pink jersey
Denmark's Kasper Asgreen (EF Education-EasyPost) took advantage of a crash in the chasing peloton and went alone to win stage 14 of the Giro d'Italia on Saturday, with Mexican Isaac del Toro extending his overall lead.
Asgreen was part of an early breakaway trio but, after several riders were brought down in a crash which broke up the peloton, the Dane went for broke in the final kilometres and held off the chasing group.
Australian Kaden Groves (Alpecin–Deceuninck) outsprinted Dutchman Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) to take second place on the 195-km stage from Treviso to Nova Gorica in Slovenia.
Del Toro ((UAE Team Emirates) managed to avoid trouble and was with the chasing group which followed Asgreen over the line to increase his lead at the head of the general classification. REUTERS

Swedish coach Vilahamn had guided Spurs to sixth the previous year while they also finished runners-up in the FA Cup. But this season they suffered some heavy defeats by Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, finishing the campaign without a win in their last 10 league games. "There have been some special moments during Robert's tenure, including reaching the FA Cup final for the first time," the club said in a statement. "However, results and performances this season have not been to the level we would expect and now is the right time to make a change. "We should like to thank Robert for his professionalism and efforts over the past two seasons, and we wish him well for the future." Vilahamn's departure comes two days after the club sacked men's team coach Ange Postecoglou. The Australian ended the club's 17-year trophy drought by winning the Europa League but Spurs finished 17th in the Premier League. Chalmers hopes Enhanced Games leads to improvement in prize money for clean swimmers
Kyle Chalmers won't criticise fellow swimmers for taking part in the Enhanced Games, but the Australian hopes the proposed multi-sport event prompts World Aquatics to increase prize money for clean athletes. The Enhanced Games will allow athletes to use pharmacological or technological assistance, including substances banned by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA). Retired Australian world champion swimmer James Magnussen, 34, in February last year agreed to take performance-enhancing drugs to make an attempt at beating Cesar Cielo's 15-year-old 50-metre freestyle world record. The Enhanced Games concept has been met with widespread criticism, with World Aquatics introducing a new bylaw that will prevent any athlete or official who supports or endorses doping from competing or holding any positions after a Greek swimmer supported by the Enhanced Games 'broke' the world record. "James is one of my really great mates so I'm definitely not going to knock him for going across there," Chalmers was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press on Sunday. "That is something that is hard in our sport, there's not a huge amount of money or prize money on offer and we kind of do it for the love of it. "So I am not going to be a person that slams swimmers for wanting to go across and make some money and give themselves a better opportunity in life or set their families up..." The Enhanced Games will hold their inaugural competition in Las Vegas in May next year with swimming, athletics and weightlifting on the agenda. Participants could earn prize money totalling up to $500,000 per event plus bonuses for surpassing a world record mark. "Swimmers have been underpaid for a very long time at the big competitions," the 26-year-old said. "I'm very lucky to have a lot of personal sponsors so I do OK for myself, which is nice. But I know that there's a lot of swimmers out there that really struggle... "So I really hope that there is a shift, that we are able to get a little bit more prize money for what we do, but I guess we'll see." Spurs dismissed Postecoglou on June 6, 16 days after the 59-year-old Australian guided them to a first major trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Europa League final. It was the club's first European prize in 41 years and also helped secure a place in next season's Champions League. But the north London club also endured their worst domestic season for nearly half a century under Postecoglou, finishing one place above the Premier League's relegation zone after losing 22 games. Pochettino, 53, guided Spurs to the 2019 Champions League final and turned them into Premier League title contenders as they finished in the top four for four straight seasons before he was fired in 2019. 'After I left in 2019, every time that I was free, and the place of the position of the manager or head coach in Tottenham Hotspur, my name is appearing on the list,' Pochettino told reporters after the United States was defeated 2-1 by Turkey in a friendly match in Connecticut on June 7. Several managers have been linked to the Spurs job, including Brentford boss Thomas Frank, Crystal Palace's Oliver Glasner and Fulham's Marco Silva, with the club searching for a fifth full-time manager in six years. 'If you have seen the rumours, I think there are 100 coaches in the list. I think, don't be worried about that,' Pochettino said. 'This attitude I want to continue for the future until we arrive to the World Cup... that is the only way we can improve,' he said.
