'I think it's hard when creative decisions are made by committee and it's hard when creative decisions are made by people who don't even really watch movies or know anything about them, and that tends to be what's occurring a lot,' Johnson admitted.
The Fifty Shades of Grey star also pointed out that 'when something does well, studios want to keep that going so they remake the same things, but humans don't want that. They want fresh, they want to feel new things, experience new things, see new things, so I don't know, I guess it's all just a bit of a mess right now, isn't it?'
In recent years, Hollywood has entered into an IP frenzy, focusing its energy on remakes and sequels of film and television franchises that have already been successful and have established audiences. This makes pitching original ideas more challenging, as studios and streamers tend to lean away from projects that appear unknown or risky.
That's also one of the reasons remakes of massively successful franchises such as Harry Potter and Twilight were a no-brainer. Studios have also expanded their popular TV universes over the years with hit shows like Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon, and The Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon.

Adam Lambert was later cast as Judas, with Milo Manheim and Raúl Esparza also joining the cast as Peter and Pontius Pilate. Phillipa Soo will play Mary Magdalene. Directed and choreographed by Tony winner Trujillo, the Hollywood Bowl's Jesus Christ Superstar will be conducted and music-directed by Stephen Oremus (who worked on both the Broadway and film versions of Wicked). The show is being produced in association with Neil Meron and Robert Greenblatt. Hulk Hogan to be cremated, memorial service plans revealed
Memorial plans have been set for Hulk Hogan a week after the legendary wrestler died at age 71. Hogan will be laid to rest in a memorial service on Aug. 5, set to take place at a church in Tampa, Florida, a source told Us Weekly. Documents obtained by the outlet on Thursday also revealed that Hogan's body will be cremated. The Pinellas County Forensic Science Center in Largo, Florida, approved the cremation on Wednesday. Hogan's death was confirmed on Thursday to be the result of an acute myocardial infarction, more commonly known as a heart attack. His manner of death was listed as natural. Although few other details were provided, official records cited by Us Weekly said the wrestling star also had a history of leukemia CLL, a type of cancer that usually impacts older adults and affects white blood cells called lymphocytes. It's unclear when Hogan was diagnosed with CLL or if he was battling the cancer in the days before his death. At the time of his passing, the World Wrestling Federation Hall of Famer was reportedly in the midst of filming a Netflix documentary about his life and career. Sources associated with the doc told CNN the previously unannounced project has been in the works since 2024. Producers reportedly culled more than 20 hours of unseen sit-down interviews with Hogan, in addition to 30 hours of scenes already shot. According to an insider, viewers are promised to 'see a side of (Hogan) they haven't seen before.' The plan is still to complete the film as production remains ongoing, though certain portions will have to be reworked, sources said. A release date has not yet been set.
