— Isaiah Saxon's 'The Legend of Ochi' (streaming Friday, Aug. 15 on HBO Max) is a handcrafted fantasy throwback seeking to conjure the kind of magic once found in movies like 'The Never Ending Story.' The A24 film stars Helena Zengel as Yuri, a girl who runs away from the forest home she shared with her father (Willem Dafoe) and brother (Finn Wolfhard). She leaves with a baby Ochi, a creature hunted her father. In her review, AP Film Writer Lindsey Bahr wrote that 'The Legend of Ochi' 'has the feeling of a film you might have stumbled on and loved as a kid.'

— The multigenerational, wholesome drama 'The Chicken Sisters" rolls out its second season on Hallmark. It's based on a novel of the same name. The series streams new episodes beginning Monday on Hallmark+.

— A new one for the kiddos is the Disney Jr. series 'Iron Man and his Awesome Friends,' coming to Disney+. The first 10 episodes drop Tuesday. The show follows besties and fellow geniuses, Tony Stark, Riri Williams and Amadeus Cho, who team up to solve problems.
— Chris Hemsworth continues his quest to live a healthier, more present, and longer life in a second season of 'Limitless," now called 'Limitless: Live Better Now.' The three-part docuseries sees Hemsworth learn more about brain power (with help from his friend and recording artist Ed Sheeran), risk and pain. The three episodes stream on Hulu and Disney+ beginning Friday, Aug. 15.

— EA Sports is jumping aboard the artificial intelligence bandwagon with Madden NFL 26, promising 'a new AI-powered machine learning system trained by real play calls and game situations over nearly a decade.' The most intriguing additions are QB DNA and Coach DNA — so, for example, if you're playing the Kansas City Chiefs, you'll see the kind of moves you'd expect from Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. As always, the goal is to get ever closer to real-life football, with more dynamic weather effects, more details from pro stadiums and the return (at last!) of team mascots. The cover model this season is Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley, who'll be ready to start leaping over defenders Thursday on PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, Switch 2 and PC.

Dawn Dusk review – handbag designer deals with grief over murdered sister and dead friend
Chicago-based Chelli Look, the subject at the centre of this diffuse documentary, seems like a nice person, with a talent for designing and making minimalist leather handbags. Not long out of high school, the best friend with whom she planned to start a business died in a car accident. Then her elder sister, Megan Henneberg, was murdered in 2007 by her husband Brian, leaving Chelli, her parents, siblings and extended family to deal with the harrowing loss. And yet, no matter how much sympathy you might feel for Chelli and her family's trauma, or interest you might have in her bagmaking skills, or engagement with her as a person, somehow those core components don't coalesce to make this feature-length documentary feel vital or even especially necessary. A self-described introvert, Chelli herself is a pretty opaque figure although she speaks quite expressively and intelligently about her approach to design. We only get tiny glimpses of her home life with husband David, so she's not really developed as a 'character' sufficiently to carry the film. Meanwhile, the story around her sister's murder has something of a shroud around it, which is understandable to an extent, but then turns the film into a strange fan dance, alternating revelation with concealment about the facts of the case. In the end, the fact that Chelli found a way to forgive her brother-in-law in a religious sense, seems to be the big takeaway, but the wafty haziness around the whole issue reduces the murder to a brutal but incidental noise off-screen. The most engaging parts of the film are the scenes where Chelli is at work at her fancy industrial Juki sewing machine in her alarmingly tidy, sepulchre-white studio. The hum of the machinery is as seductively lulling as an ASMR video and watching Chelli buy leather hides is pure shopping pornography. Even more visually lush is the sequence where Chelli goes off to Florence to take a course in leatherwork and design to refine her skills, offering the film-makers a chance to shoot one of the world's more photogenic cities at crepuscular times of the day. All of which makes the surprise ending even more baffling, denying viewers the redemption–through–small-business-ownership ending the film appears to be striving for. As a 27-year-old Hollywood scriptwriter, Sall Grover was dumbstruck when a film producer offered her work and then plunged his hands down her pants. She fled and called her manager, only to be left stunned again. 'He goes, 'This is great. He wants you to write him a script',' Grover said. That experience and others, such as the Hollywood landlords who offered young women free accommodation if they did not wear clothes, left Grover disillusioned upon her return to Australia after a decade away. Encouraged by her mother, she decided to create an app exclusively for women — a space, as she describes it, where women could 'just talk and connect about anything they wanted to'. Or, as she told a court: 'It would be a place without harassment, mansplaining, dick pics, stalking and aggression, and other male patterned online behaviour.'
