Young Scarlets star Macs Page scored a superb solo score at the weekend, earning rave reviews from fans.
Going up against Munster in the United Rugby Championship, Page had been introduced on 56 minutes for Ioan Nicholas. Scarlets had put-in at the scrum and Page would make his impact barely 60 seconds after coming on.
Vaea Fifita peeled off the back, feeding Gareth Davies, who slipped a pass into Ioan Lloyd. The latter then sprayed a beautiful flat pass into current Wales squad member Ellis Mee.

Mee caught the ball impressively before releasing a fantastic offload in the midst of being tackled. Page handed off the first man and used his electric pace to burn down the right channel before kicking, chasing and grounding for a brilliant score.
"Mee gets the new man, Page, away," began commentator Ryle Nugent on Premier Sports. "Page will kick and chase, and what an introduction! Macs Page in. It's exactly what you warned against Alan Quinlan."
"Page does outstanding there," added former Ireland international Quinlan. "It's an outstanding score, brilliant pace, great little kick as well."

For those of you that remember Louis Rees-Zammit's stunning score against Scotland in the 2021 Six Nations, this try is almost identical.
The Scarlets conversion had already been taken when referee Federico Vedovelli was asked to confer with the TMO. There was a lengthy check to see if Page had grounded the ball, with Munster man Paddy Patterson seemingly doing a good job of preventing Page from dotting down.
Cue an understandable reaction from Page, with commentator Nugent joking: "You don't need to be a lip reader to see what Macs Page thinks about it!"
Despite the Irish commentary team assuming the try would be overturned, Vedovelli said: "No evidence to change my on-field decision."

"Macs Page has a razzle dazzle not many in Wales do, in my opinion wing is right for him at this stage and I can see him there internationally," wrote one person on social media.
"Macs Page is serious box office! Cap him in the summer!" wrote another fan.
"Macs Page that is outrageous," said one.

Page has been ear-marked as one of Welsh rugby brightest young talents, earning high praise from former Wales internationals Alex Cuthbert and Richie Rees. He first turned heads when scoring another fine try against Zebre Parma in October.
The 20-year-old typically plays at outside centre, but as his latest score shows, it seems he could well be deployed on the wing in future. Page hails from west Wales and is a product of the infamous Crymych RFC.

All Blacks great Stu Wilson, known for his ebullient personality and pioneering play, dies at 70

WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — Stu Wilson, an elusive All Blacks winger whose playing style reflected his ebullient personality, has died. He was 70. Wilson's death was confirmed by New Zealand Rugby, which did not specify a cause. He died in his sleep Sunday at his home in Tauranga on New Zealand's North Island. Advertisement Wilson was a natural joker whose play was many years ahead of its time. He foreshadowed the larger, stronger wingers who are now commonplace but he also had pace, balance and an ability to break tackles. Wilson scored 19 tries in 35 tests for the All Blacks which, at the time of his retirement, was the all-time record for New Zealand. That included a hat-trick of tries against the British and Irish Lions at Dunedin in 1983. He captained the All Blacks on their 1983 tour to Britain and formed a brilliant attacking partnership at provincial and international level with his fellow winger and friend Bernie Fraser. After retiring Wilson became an amusing and popular commentator for television. Advertisement David Campese, an ex-Australia winger who made his test debut opposite Wilson in 1982, told Television New Zealand 'as a player, Stu made rugby look easy and earned huge respect as captain in 1983.' 'He had a swerve to beat anyone, extreme pace, intellect and power, able to break through tacklers, making him a try-scoring machine.' ___ AP rugby:

Aaron Rodgers was Steelers' ‘third option' at quarterback before pairing came together

The Steelers may have waited around for Aaron Rodgers to finally sign a contract, but that doesn't mean he was their No. 1 choice. In fact, the ex-Jet quarterback was apparently Pittsburgh's third choice for the position, ESPN's Adam Schefter recently reported. The Steelers announced that Rodgers inked a one-year contract with the team after a lengthy waiting game, but the decision to bring in the four-time NFL MVP was out of necessity rather than choice. Advertisement 'This was the third option for the Pittsburgh Steelers,' Schefter said during Friday's 'NFL Live' while discussing the signing. 'They were in on Matthew Stafford and couldn't get done a trade. They tried to re-sign Justin Fields, he opted to go to the New York Jets, where he will meet Rodgers on opening day. And after they couldn't get a trade done for Stafford and couldn't get Fields re-signed, they pivoted to Rodgers.' Aaron Rodgers reacts during the Jets' game against the Colts in November 2024. Robert Sabo for the NY Post The quarterback is coming off a season in which he threw 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, but it wasn't enough to help the Jets reach the lofty goals that were placed upon the team at the beginning of the year — and they finished 5-12. Advertisement The Jets opted to move on from Rodgers earlier this year during a meeting at the team's facility, which the future Hall of Famer later went on to criticize in an appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show.' Rodgers was spotted at the Steelers' facility over the weekend, entering the building a little after 8 a.m. on Saturday. Advertisement Aaron Rodgers arrived at the Steelers' facility June 7. WTAE Rodgers' contract is worth $13.65 million and includes $10 million of guaranteed money, as well as incentives that could increase its worth up to $19.5 million. The 41-year-old will wear No. 8 during his stint with the Steelers, which will begin when Pittsburgh vists the Jets in Week 1.

Made in Reading, toasted in Wales: Hal Robson-Kanu and the goal that shocked Belgium's ‘Golden Generation'

Wales and Belgium face each other on Monday night in a crucial World Cup qualifier. Wales have started their campaign well, while the Red Devils had a stuttering start against North Macedonia. In the last four meetings between the sides, Wales have yet to beat Belgium. The Red Devils have won two of the previous four games, both at home. However, the fifth game is arguably the most famous between the sides. On Friday, July the 1st 2016, the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in Lille witnessed one of the biggest shocks in recent Euro's history. Belgium's so called Golden Generation were humbled by Chris Coleman's Wales. The hero of that night was Reading FC winger Hal Robson-Kanu. In his final season for Reading, the forward had scored five goals and provided seven assists in 35 games. His contract was up, and in many ways the tournament came at the perfect time. The goal he scored certainly raised his profile within Europe. I can still remember where I was when he turned into Johan Cruyff. Sat in a bar in Poznan, Poland, I was sure that Belgium would see off this plucky Welsh side. When Radja Nainggolan scored early on, it felt like the Red Devils would cruise to victory. Advertisement However, with around 15 minutes to go to half-time, Coleman's side hit back. Ashley Williams grabbed an equaliser and the sides went into the break all square. 10 minutes after the break, the goal that defined the game was scored. During his time at Reading, Robson-Kanu had always been a player that relied on his technical ability rather than any blistering pace. That technical ability was on full display. Wales hit Belgium on the counter attack, with an inch perfect pass from Joe Allen finding Aaron Ramsey's forward run. His ball in was controlled by Robson-Kanu with his back to goal. Three defenders were surrounding the Reading man, but rather than lay it back his audacious turn in the box fooled everyone as he fired past Thibaut Courtois. It was rightly nominated for the Puskas award for the year 2016, yet was beaten to that title by Malaysian footballer Mohd Faiz Subri for a goal against Pahang during the Malaysian Super League season. Robson-Kanu would only score five goals for the Welsh national team, yet it is unlikely that anyone can remember any of the other four. Robson-Kanu was substituted in the 80th minute, with his replacement Sam Vokes completing the shock and sending the much fancied Belgian side home. It is certainly a sliding doors moment for that Belgian side. Wales went on to lose out to eventual winners Portugal in the semi-finals, who beat hosts France in the final. Could Belgium have won that tournament? They certainly had the talent, but that night it just wasn't meant to be for the Red Devils. Memories of that night will certainly be recalled ahead of the clash between the two sides on Monday. Even in Belgium, that game is remembered but rather not talked about. When Coleman joined OH Leuven he was asked about that game, such is its position in the minds of the Belgian football fan. Advertisement For Robson-Kanu, one could argue that his career peaked in that very moment. He went on to join West Brom and play Premier League football, but never enjoyed a moment as defining as that goal in Lille. Yet, how many of us would dream of achieving what Robson-Kanu did that evening. Many a player would trade in scoring for their clubs to be remembered for one moment of brilliance on the international stage. It is not an exaggeration to say that the goal Robson-Kanu scored that night as immortalised him in footballing history. Wales have not had the same success either since 2016. Yet, a win on Monday against Belgium would stand them in good stead to qualify for back to back World Cups. For Belgium, they need to win to ensure they don't put themselves under early pressure in the qualification campaign. GBeNeFN | Ben Jackson
