Mark Hughes stays at Carlisle United as head coach
The Blues have announced that the head coach has agreed to remain in charge ahead of the 2025/26 season.
It follows more than two weeks of talks since the end of the season that saw the Cumbrians relegated to the National League.
The 61-year-old will now lead United's bid to bounce back next season.
"I'm thrilled to be staying at the club," said Hughes in a statement.
"Since joining back in February, the support I've received from the fans has been exceptional - thank you.
"I hope to see more of the same next season as we aim for an immediate return to the EFL."
Owner Tom Piatak added: "Mark brought the squad together during the closing stretch of the season and gave us a fighting chance.
"His leadership, composure, and connection with the players was clear, and we're confident in his ability to lead us forward.'

Hughes was brought in as United's third boss of the season in February after the successive departures of Paul Simpson and Mike Williamson.
He was unable to keep the Cumbrians in the EFL but earned popularity with many fans for his approach and an improvement in results.
The experienced former Blackburn Rovers, Manchester City and Bradford City boss was at the helm for 18 games, winning five, drawing six and losing seven.
United's statement does not clarify Hughes' backroom staff but it will be expected that his No2, Glyn Hodges, will remain.
Clarity is also awaited on the rest of his coaching team, with Jamie Devitt having acted as first-team coach during Hughes' tenure last season.
Confirmation of Hughes' retention came hours after Carlisle announced the departure of head of recruitment Greg Abbott.
It also follows the departure of Rob Clarkson as sporting director, and last week's appointment of Marc Tierney as head of football operations.
Hughes and Tierney will now be expected to work closely in an attempt to reverse Carlisle's decline on the pitch after back-to-back relegations.
The Blues are preparing to play in the fifth tier for only the second time.
The news on Hughes comes some 23 days after United's relegation was confirmed, and 16 days after the final game of the 2024/25 campaign.
Hughes is understood to have been away on holiday for some of the intervening period, while Blues owner Tom Piatak had stressed that talks with the Welshman were "ongoing" during that period as United sought a resolution.

Amorim on Sesko, target for the season and Fernandes' role
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has been speaking to the media before Sunday's Premier League game against Arsenal at Old Trafford (kick-off 16:30 BST). Here are the key lines from his news conference: Amorim confirmed that Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui are both out for Sunday's game. However, Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana have recovered and "are options" for the match. On if new signing Benjamin Sesko is ready to play: "We didn't have lot of time, but he is ready. Physically he is ready, and that is big component in our league. He is smart. He is a guy that is thinking. He spent all afternoon working on his fitness, so he is ready to play and we will see." He added: "I am very happy [with him]. He has great potential. He can play different types of football. He is going to feel the Premier League is very aggressive but he will learn and has great potential. I can see him being a striker for United for lots of years. That is why we have paid so much money for a striker that can have history in this club." The United boss said a "return to Europe" is a target for them this season, but they are "going to have to fight a lot" and all they can focus on now is "to improve game by game". Asked about the future of forward Rasmus Hojlund, he responded: "He is one more option. We are focused on this game and we will see. Rasmus is still our player." On how confident he is with what his team will look like this campaign: "It is hard to know. We can't change everything in four weeks, but we are better. We are training harder and better and know we can cope with the demands of the game. We have new players and we need to understand what they can do in the moment. I am more confident in this moment." Amorim feels it is "a good thing for Bruno [Fernandes] to stay in one position" and added: "I want Bruno near the ball and that is really important for our team, but sometimes we need Bruno near the goal. We will try to arrange game by game the best players in the best positions." He is "happy" with the players he has and feels they can "cope" despite being light in midfield positions. 2025 MLB Odds: Can Brewers Continue Red-Hot Moneyline Streak?
Milwaukee has been on an absolute heater lately. And with that, bettors who haven't gotten on the Brewers' bandwagon might want to consider doing just that. Milwaukee is on a 12-game winning streak. Their last loss was on July 30 to the Cubs. Just how good could the winnings have been had you consulted your crystal ball at the beginning of the month? Placing a $100 wager at DraftKings Sportsbook on Milwaukee's moneyline at the start of the streak and then rolling over the winnings for the last 12 contests would have you up almost $51k. It's worth noting that three of the four teams Milwaukee faced over the last two weeks — Washington, Atlanta and Pittsburgh — have losing records. The New York Mets, at 64-56, are the only above-.500 club the Brewers battled since Aug. 1. Friday night, the Brewers attempt to keep the dream alive when they play Cincinnati (64-58). Let's look at the odds for Friday's matchup, as well as other markets for the surging Brewers at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Aug. 15. Brewers @ Reds (6:40 p.m., ET, Apple TV) Run Line: Brewers -1.5 (Brewers favored to win by more than 1.5 runs, otherwise Reds cover)Moneyline: Brewers -144 favorites to win (bet $10 to win $16.94 total); Reds +118 underdogs to win (bet $10 to win $21.80 total)Total Runs Over/Under: 9 by both teams combined Other Brewers Odds: Brewers vs. Reds Series WinnerBrewers: -125 (bet $10 to win $18 total)Reds: -105 (bet $10 to win $19.52 total) World Series+800 (bet $10 to win $90 total) National League+380 (bet $10 to win $48 total) NL Central-750 (bet $10 to win $11.33 total) Record 100+ Regular Season Wins-130 (bet $10 to win $17.69 total) Is wagering on Milwaukee's moneyline a good bet to make the rest of the way? FOX Sports MLB writer Rowan Kavner, who placed the Brewers No. 1 in his most recent power rankings, certainly believes so. "Remember when the Brewers started the year 25-28? Well, they've won 48 of their last 64 games since then and are playing like they'll never lose again," Kavner wrote. "In a season in which few elite teams have really separated themselves, Milwaukee is playing at a level above everyone else. Since the break, the Brewers have as many sweeps (four) as total losses (four)." Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
