In 1975, Srividya got a chance to star with Kamal Haasan in K Balachander's film Apoorva Raangaga. During the shooting of the film, Srividya fell in love with Haasan. While she became a leading name in the industry, Kamal was still striving to make a mark in films. Srividya wanted to marry him and settle down. However, Srividya's mother advised the couple to wait and settle in their careers before making a long-term commitment of marriage. But, Kamal wasn't okay with it, and he decided to call the relationship quits. Srividya then moved on with film director Bharathan, who collaborated with her in many films.
