Research needed on attracting more FDI
Hyderabad: Experts at the two-day Annual Finance Conference-2025 organised by the Institute of Public Enterprise (IPE) stressed focusing on the structural shifts in the global financial landscape and the need for research on how India could strategically leverage evolving trade dynamics to attract FDI, particularly amidst China's dominant trade surplus.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Guest, Prof N R Parashuraman, former Director of SDMIMD, emphasised the dual importance of fintech advancements and foundational financial principles, urging the participants to analyse structural shifts in modern finance.
Mohith, Co-founder of Utsuk Consulting and the Guest of Honour, stressed the evolving role of finance professionals, noting, 'Beyond technical expertise, leaders must cultivate communication skills, global competitiveness, and resilient organisational cultures.'
Prof M S Narasimhan, IIM Bangalore, the Chief Guest for the Valedictory session, highlighted the need for research aligned with global investment trends, stating, 'India must strategically leverage evolving trade dynamics to attract FDI, particularly amid China's dominant trade surplus.'
Prof D Chennappa from the Osmania University, the Guest of Honour, called for actionable research by linking financial inclusion to India's Viksit Bharat@2047 vision. Prof S Sreenivasa Murthy, Director of IPE and the Conference Chairman, stressed interdisciplinary approaches to address finance's intersections with sustainability and governance.
The conference featured 53 peer-reviewed papers (shortlisted out of 176) across six themes – including fintech, behavioural finance, and financial inclusion – presented by academicians from IITs, IIMs, leading universities and B-Schools.
The conference organised by IPE's Centre for Financial Education, chaired by Prof S Sreenivasa Murthy and convened by Prof Y Rama Krishna, with Dr Swati Mathur and Dr P Kalyani as co-conveners, reinforced finance's transformative potential in shaping India's economic future.

IICA to establish first regional campus in northeast, advancing corporate governance and development
New Delhi [India], June 3 (ANI): The Shillong campus, an investment under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for Northeast (PM-DevINE), will operate as a regional hub for specialised training, research, and policy advisory across key domains, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. In a landmark step toward inclusive national growth and regional capacity building, the Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA), under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, formally acquired a five-acre land parcel in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, for its first-ever regional campus. This initiative marks a significant expansion of IICA's footprint into the North East, reinforcing its commitment to corporate governance excellence and sustainable development. In an official statement, the land-transfer ceremony was presided by Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary, Government of Meghalaya and Ms. Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs. Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, Director General and CEO of IICA, Inderdeep Singh Dhariwal, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, C.V.D. Diengdoh, Commissioner & Secretary, Planning Department, (Col.) Amandeep Singh Puri IICA among other senior officials were also present. The land handover and takeover were undertaken by K. Hynniewta, Joint Secretary, Planning Department from the Government of Meghalaya and Sh. Shekhar Srivastava, Deputy Secretary from the Government of India. Applauding the vision, the Chief Secretary expressed Meghalaya's commitment to knowledge-led growth and highlighted the strategic location of the IICA campus within the Knowledge City cluster. The area already houses esteemed institutions like IIM Shillong, National Law University Meghalaya, and NIFT--promising rich academic and professional synergy. He also informed that a new airport is soon to be developed in Shillong, which will significantly enhance regional connectivity and make the campus easily accessible to professionals, faculty, and students from across India. This infrastructural development will further reinforce Shillong's emerging status as a major academic and policy hub in the Northeast. In her address, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Ms Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Congratulated and appreciated the proactive and generous support from the Meghalaya Government, stating that this partnership reflects the spirit of cooperative federalism and the Centre's vision of empowering the North-East as a growth engine for New India. According to an official statement, academic and advisory programmes are scheduled to begin within the current financial year, with construction work starting immediately. IICA has already served the NER through its prior training programmes that have benefitted over 300 professionals and continues to manage the Independent Director Databank, which includes representation from all Northeastern states. Telangana CM plans to build $1 trillion state economy in 10 years
Hyderabad Telangana chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Monday said his government has prepared an action plan – Telangana Rising -2047 – aimed at developing the state into a US $3 trillion economy by 2047, in tune with the Central government's target of making India a US $30 trillion economy. Addressing the gathering after unfurling the national flag on the occasion of 12th Telangana formation day celebrations, Revanth Reddy said the state government is working on mission mode to play a pivotal role in the development of India as an economic super power by 2047. 'As part of it, the Telangana Rising -2047 action plan was already prepared and decided to promote the state as a US $1 trillion economy in the next 10 years and a US $3 trillion economy by 2047. Telangana Rising mission is regarded as the main instrument to achieve robust growth,' he said. He said his government had inherited a completely dismantled system from the previous regime and taken the responsibility of streamlining every sector. 'We have made the reconstruction of Telangana a big challenge to fulfill the aspirations of people,' he said. Revanth Reddy said his government had restored the systems in various sectors one after the other, including appointment of full-time vice-chancellors to various universities, filled up vacant government jobs by overhauling the Telangana State Public Service Commission and constituted the Education Commission, Agriculture Commission and Information Commission, Lokayukta and human rights commission to ensure that the systems function independently. At the same time, the chief minister claimed, his government had taken steps to empower women by introducing the Indira Mahila Shakti scheme, proposing to distribute ₹ 1 lakh crore to women for taking up employment generation programmes, of which ₹21,000 crore had already been distributed. 'Women self-help groups are encouraged to set up solar power generation units, operate petrol pumps, establish Mahila Shakti canteens and take up stitching of the school uniforms and school management. We have also been providing free bus travel for women in RTC buses,' he said. The chief minister also explained the initiatives being taken for the farming community, such as waiver of farm loans up to ₹ 2 lakh, enhancement of Rythu Bharosa to ₹12,000 per acre and provision of financial assistance of ₹ 12,000 to landless labour. 'The provision of bonus of ₹ 500 per quintal to the fine variety of paddy resulted in a record production of 268 lakh metric tonnes this year,' he said. He also explained in detail other programmes of his government like introduction of Bhu Bharati 2024 act, conduct of caste survey, enactment of a law for the enhancement of the OBC quota in the assembly and legislative council, implementation of SC sub-categorisation etc., and efforts to attract large scale investments to Telangana in the last one year. On the occasion of Telangana formation day, Revanth Reddy felicitated nine eminent personalities who played a major role in the separate Telangana movement with a shawl and a cheque of ₹1 crore each. While Aekka Yadagiri Rao, Andesri, Suddala Ashok Teja, Jayaraju and Pasham Yadagiri received the awards personally, family members of deceased awardees Guda Anjayya, Gaddar and Bandi Yadagiri, besides daughter of poet Goreti Venkanna who is away on foreign tour, received the awards.
