Protecting trafficking victims a national and moral responsibility: MoH
The Ministry's spokesperson, Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad, made the statement on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed globally on July 30.
Dr. Al-Sanad emphasized that the Ministry's role in addressing this issue stems from 'an integrated humanitarian and professional system that encompasses prevention, monitoring, and rehabilitation.' He added, 'Protecting the victim begins from the moment they enter a health facility and continues until they are able to live again in safety and dignity.'
The Ministry provides free, comprehensive health services to all victims without discrimination. These include emergency care, ambulance services, full treatment for medically and legally significant cases, and various preventive vaccinations. All services are delivered with strict professional confidentiality and respect for the victims' privacy.
Emergency and accident departments at government hospitals are equipped with immediate reporting protocols, ensuring prompt coordination with the relevant authorities in cases of suspected violence or exploitation involving children, adults, or the elderly. Security checkpoints and specialized investigators are stationed in hospitals around the clock to ensure rapid and professional intervention. In such cases, the Ministry also provides legally compliant medical documentation to aid investigations.
Highlighting the importance of psychological and social support, Al-Sanad noted that the Ministry deploys specialized teams of psychologists and social workers to shelters to assist victims in overcoming trauma and regaining emotional and social stability, preparing them for reintegration into society.
The Ministry has also taken steps to train and qualify healthcare professionals across hospitals and primary care centers to identify and respond to cases of human trafficking. These professionals receive targeted training on the legal and ethical procedures required to handle such cases with sensitivity and responsibility.
Al-Sanad stressed that the Ministry views its role in combating human trafficking not only as a medical duty but also as a national and moral obligation. He underscored the importance of community awareness, stating that the Ministry organizes workshops, public awareness campaigns, and commemorates the World Day annually to promote a culture of protection, prevention, and vigilance.
He further emphasized that 'the State of Kuwait, under its wise leadership and with the cooperation of its institutions, places human dignity and protection at the core of its priorities,' adding that the Ministry is fully mobilized to safeguard lives, restore victims' confidence, and enable them to live safely.
In 2018, Kuwait established the National Committee for the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking in Persons and Smuggling of Migrants, aiming to create a society free from trafficking and smuggling, and committed to raising public awareness of the dangers of these crimes.
The United Nations General Assembly has designated July 30 as the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, to raise awareness of human trafficking, highlight the plight of victims, and advocate for the protection of their rights.

Health ministry reports successful blood donation drive, collecting 742 units
KUWAIT CITY, Aug 4: The Ministry of Health's Blood Transfusion Services Department has announced that 742 units of blood were successfully collected during the "Together Forever - A Shield for the Homeland 10" blood donation campaign. The initiative, which took place under the patronage of Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, also marked the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait. The campaign, held over three days, commemorated the sacrifices of the martyrs and highlighted the unity and resilience of Kuwaiti society. In a statement to the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), the department reported that the number of units collected this year surpassed last year's total of 710, underscoring a growing awareness of the importance of blood donation within the community. The campaign also saw an expansion in participation from various organizations, institutions, and individual donors, reflecting an increase in the collective sense of responsibility. The Ministry of Health expressed deep gratitude for the collaborative efforts of various state ministries and agencies, particularly the Ministries of Defense, Interior, and the National Guard, all of whom contributed to the campaign's success. Dr. Reem Al-Radwan, Director of the Blood Transfusion Services Department, highlighted the significance of the campaign, stating that the high turnout this year demonstrated the increasing public understanding of the vital role blood donation plays in saving lives. She emphasized that this success was made possible through the ministry's support and the cooperation of both official and community entities. Al-Radwan also noted that blood donation is one of the noblest forms of voluntary giving, playing a crucial role in sustaining the country's blood reserves. She thanked Minister Al-Awadhi for his ongoing support and participation, which she said reflected the spirit of social and humanitarian responsibility. Minister Al-Awadhi, who launched the campaign last Thursday, emphasized that the event was not just about donating blood but was also a tribute to Kuwait's martyrs, who gave their lives for the country. He described the campaign as a symbol of national unity, bringing together various governmental, military, civil, and community sectors in a collective effort to promote the values of loyalty, selflessness, and humanitarianism. This year's campaign marks the tenth consecutive edition and continues the Ministry of Health's efforts to foster community engagement, raise awareness about the importance of blood donation, and ensure the availability of blood supplies year-round. The campaign's ultimate goal is to instill a culture of voluntary blood donation, encouraging altruism and solidarity in support of those in need.

PAAET limits 2025 admission to Kuwaitis, adds new program
KUWAIT: Prospective students and their families receive guidance at the Public Authority for Applied Education and Training booth at The Avenues Mall. — KUNA KUWAIT: The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) has kicked off this year's 'My Right Start' campaign with a dedicated booth at The Avenues Mall, offering in-person guidance for high school graduates applying to the institute for the 2025/2026 academic year. The booth will be open daily from 10 am to 10 pm until August 7 and aims to answer questions about admissions and post-graduation job placement, in coordination with various government entities. 'This is an annual guidance campaign targeting recent high school graduates interested in joining PAAET's colleges and institutes,' said Dr Hassan Al-Fajjam, Director General of the Authority. He added, 'For this academic year, applications are open for five colleges and five institutes offering nearly 60 specializations aligned with labor market needs.' But this year's campaign comes with a number of changes. According to Dr. Fawzi Al-Doukhi, Dean of Admissions and Registration, admission for the 2025/2026 academic year is limited to Kuwaiti nationals only. Applications will be accepted from August 5 to August 18. Al-Doukhi announced a major addition to the academic offerings: a new four-year Bachelor's degree in Fire Engineering Technology in collaboration with the General Fire Force. 'Graduates will be appointed directly as engineering officers in the force,' he said. The admission process has also been updated with stricter requirements and new procedures. 'All admitted students must confirm their acceptance online. Failure to do so within the deadline will result in cancellation,' Al-Doukhi explained. A retraction after confirmation will also incur a KD 20 fee. In another key change, applicants to medical programs—including nursing and health sciences—must now submit a certificate proving they are free of specific infectious diseases. 'Students accepted into these specializations must collect a health clearance form from PAAET's main building in Adailiya, have it stamped, and then undergo testing at the Ministry of Health. The approved certificate must be submitted during interviews at the respective colleges,' Al-Doukhi said. He urged applicants to visit the Admissions and Registration webpage on PAAET's official website to review the available majors, admission thresholds, and specific requirements for each field. — KUNA

Commemorating the 35th anniversary of the Iraqi brutal invasion, August 2, 1990, Al-Awadhi said it is a landmark day as Kuwaiti nationals inside the country and beyond kept united behind their legitimate leader in a way that mirrored an eternal humanitarian and national scene. "We are proud of our medical teams and all that contributed to providing services during the most challenging conditions," he said. These offerings will remain engraved into the country's history and a source of inspiration of generations, he stated.
