Australia snatches valuable victory over Japan and edges closer to World Cup qualification
Canberra - Saba: The Australian national team secured a valuable victory over its guest, Japan, defeating them 1-0 in the match held today, Thursday, at Perth Stadium, in the ninth round of Group C qualifying for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The Australian team owes its credit to its player Aziz Behich, who scored the winning goal and the only goal of the match in the 90th minute. With this result, the Australian team raised its score to 16 points, maintaining its position in second place in the group and moving closer to qualifying for the World Cup, as it is four points behind the leading Japanese team, which has already qualified for the World Cup. The first and second-place teams from each group qualify directly for the 2026 World Cup, while the third and fourth-place teams advance to the fourth round to compete for two World Cup berths and a play-off berth. Paris Saint-Germain to clash with Inter Milan in champions league final
Munich – Saba: Paris Saint-Germain is set to face Inter Milan tomorrow Saturday in the Champions League final at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany. The match, with Romanian referee Istvan Kovac officiating, marks the first-ever Champions League encounter between the two clubs and only the second final between French and Italian teams. The previous one was in the 1992/93 season when Marseille defeated Milan 1-0, also held in Munich. Paris Saint-Germain is making its second final appearance in the last five years, having previously lost to Bayern Munich in the 2020 final. The French club aims to secure its first Champions League title, a long-sought-after ambition after their near miss in 2020. Inter Milan, who reached the final in 2023 and last won the title in 2010, are vying for their fourth Champions League trophy under coach Simone Inzaghi. They will rely on key players such as Argentina's World Cup winner Lautaro Martinez, Nicolo Barella, goalkeeper Yann Sommer, and Pavard. Tournament regulations state that if the match ends in a draw, two 15-minute extra periods will be played. If the score remains tied after extra time, the winner will be decided by a penalty shootout. The victor of this final will then compete in the UEFA Super Cup against Tottenham Hotspur, the current European champions. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print

Brazilian football confederation appoints Ancelotti as new coach of Seleção
Brasília - Saba: The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced on Monday the appointment of Italian Carlo Ancelotti, the current head coach of Real Madrid, as the new manager of the Seleção until the 2026 World Cup. Ancelotti (65), who has not yet commented on his new role, will become the first permanent foreign coach of the Brazilian national team in a century. Ancelotti is currently under contract with Real Madrid until the final matchday of La Liga on May 25. The CBF confirmed that he will take charge of the Seleção immediately the following day. Brazil will face Ecuador on June 5 in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, followed by a match against Paraguay in São Paulo five days later. Despite Ancelotti's successful tenure at Real Madrid, where he secured multiple domestic and continental titles, this season has seen a significant decline in the team's performance. A 4-3 defeat to rivals Barcelona in El Clásico (Matchday 35 of La Liga) effectively ended Los Blancos' hopes of winning the league title. This marked Ancelotti's fourth consecutive loss against Barcelona, fueling speculation about his departure—especially as Real Madrid failed to secure any major trophies this season except for the UEFA Super Cup. Meanwhile, Xabi Alonso, former Real Madrid star and current coach of Bayer Leverkusen, has emerged as the strongest candidate to succeed Ancelotti. Alonso recently confirmed his departure from the German club after leading them to a historic Bundesliga title last season and achieving remarkable results this campaign. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print
