My family got a free unlimited Premier Inn breakfast without even staying at the hotel

The Irish Sun14-05-2025

WE can all agree that a slap-up cooked breakfast is one of the best bits about a night away in a hotel - but who knew you could tuck in to Premier Inn's kids eat free deal without even staying overnight?
Adults can get an all-you-can-eat

You can also opt to have a continental breakfast excluding hot food for £8.99 per adult, still including hot drinks and juice
That meant feeding five of us at Uttoxeter
It was a fantastic start to our family fun, as the boys piled their plates high with all manner of breakfast goodies that made a welcome change from our normal bowl of cereal or slice of toast.
One bloke tucking into his full English nearby even stopped my husband to say my middle son was his hero, after seeing him wander past with a plate of

It sounded a bit too good to be true, so I dropped the hotel an email to ask if I could book a table for the morning and ten minutes later, it was all sorted.
When we arrived, we headed into reception, which is in a different building from the restaurant, to enter our car registration into the system.
The lovely Amy escorted us over to the restaurant and took our payment. She advised that prebooking is always a good idea - if the hotel is fully booked, they might struggle to accommodate extra people at breakfast.
I found the hotel's email address on social media so it was very straightforward to make a booking.

Seeing my sons' eyes light up as they saw all the baked goods and trays of cooked breakfast made me smile.
My eldest son had no hesitation in asking Amy if you could reload your plate as many times as you like.
Colcot & Spa is great for families with playbarn and pools
My only proviso was that we only take things we are definitely going to eat as we don't like food waste.
So I'd rather the boys take less each time and then go back for more than stacking food sky-high and not being able to eat it all.

At the end, our plates were bare and we were all stuffed, so it meant we needed to carry less food around Alton Towers with us.

If you're not a fan of eggs and bacon for your breakfast, you can opt for a continental breakfast of cereal, pastries, fruit and yogurt at Premier Inn instead and that costs just £8.99 per adult, still including hot drinks and juice.
So you could actually feed a family of six for just £18 if you chose that option. That's the same price as five ice creams at Alton Towers!

You don't even have to be staying at the hotel to get a breakfast
Now I'm on the lookout for more sites where we can start our day with a big feed for the whole family for next-to-nothing, especially as I don't have to cook or clean up afterwards.
It would be great if you're having a beach day or on a city break, as both are places you're likely to find a Premier Inn.
It's worth knowing that at some sites, the cost per adult might be £11.99 or £13.99, so you should check the price when you email to book if you're working to a budget.

Guests at hotel blast 'chavs' & defend 'delicious' Greek food after gran's moan

Regular guests at the Corfu hotel lambasted by a British gran for its lack of so-called English grub have hit out at "pathetic chavs" leaving negative reviews. The Lido Corfu Sun Hotel on the Greek isle was thrust into the limelight this week following Susan Edwards, 69, moaning about the scarcity of chips and her frustration at constantly seeing rice. The hotel's management has since defended their menu, touting it as "generous and diverse", with a daily spread of "fresh salads, fruits, hot and cold dishes". In the wake of the controversy, guests have flocked to Tripadvisor and Google Reviews to champion the resort they adore, claiming Ms Edwards' gripes are unjust. One so incensed penned their inaugural Tripadvisor critique to label fellow holidaymakers as "pathetic chavs". This profile, freshly set-up this month apparently as a retort to the dispute, awarded the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel top marks. Their review states: "Don't listen to pathetic chavvy Brits and Poles who bought the cheapest 'all Inclusive' package in existence and demanded type of service only the most entitled and uncouth would. It's a fine, charming little place. Close to water, nice food and clean facilities. Thankfully, no British food!". Another commentator also sneaks in a sly jab at Ms Edwards' complaints, asserting the Greek cuisine is scrumptious. They, with apparent sarcasm, praised the way in which the hotel caters for Scottish visitors in their appraisal, posted mere hours after Ms Edwards' grievances hit the headlines, reports the Mirror. The traveller wrote: "Phenomenal hotel, very comfortable and well located for a relaxing holiday, we are regular visitors. Excellent all inclusive food and drink package, they really go out their way to cater for Scottish visitors. "We enjoyed draught Tennant's lager, Irn Bru was on tap (diet and full fat), square sausage on a roll at breakfast, scotch pies and bridies at lunchtime, and there was always a choice of haggis or mince 'n tatties at dinner. Tunnock's tea cakes and shortbread were available all day, along with Scottish Blend tea. The staff are lovely and cannot do enough for you. The Greek dishes are also immense, which is a bonus, as Corfu is in Greece." Praise continued on Google Reviews, where most pegged Lido Corfu Sun Hotel with top marks - five stars. One of the recent glowing reviews stated: "The food is delicious. The service is great. We arrived at 4am and at 8am we got a room and wristbands and we could use everything. On the day of departure after adding the key to the transfer itself we could use all the facilities and food. We sincerely recommend." Ms Edwards, a gran from Westerhope, Newcastle, described her holiday as "horrendous" from the moment she and her family arrived, including her two cousins, second cousin, and daughter. TUI responded to the fiasco by offering the guests €120 in holiday vouchers, with a spokesperson expressing their regret: "Our priority is to ensure customers have the best possible holiday experience, so we are sorry to hear that Ms Edwards felt dissatisfied with her holiday. We have been in touch directly with Ms Edwards to come to a resolution."

Historic East Cork hotel set to undergo transformation

Youghal's Walter Raleigh Hotel, which dates back to the 18th century, is a boutique hotel that once served as the temporary home for the controversial figure, who reportedly planted the very first potatoes in Ireland. Walter Raleigh was an English planter and former British Army officer who fought in campaigns in France and Ireland, and was given 40,000 acres – including the towns of Youghal and Lismore – following the suppression of the Desmond rebellion in 1579. The hotel is located above the seafront promenade in the town, which is starting to once again enjoy increased tourist numbers, following its heyday as a seaside holiday destination up to the 1970s, when the railway line to Cork was closed. Despite its decline, the Walter Raleigh – which first opened its doors as a hospitality destination in 1902 - stayed open throughout that time. Now, the hotel has been taken over by the American Multinational 'Choice' hotel group, which employs over 1,800 staff and turned over $1.4 billion dollars of revenue in 2022. The group includes brands such as the Quality Inn, Comfort Inn, and Radisson hotels. 'We are delighted to welcome the Walter Raleigh Hotel to the Choice Hotel Group family. This landmark property has long been a beloved destination in East Cork, known for its historic charm, seaside views, and exceptional guest service,' said CEO of Choice Hotel Group Ireland, Andrew O'Neill. 'Our vision is to preserve its character while investing in enhancements that will benefit guests, staff, and the wider Youghal community. It aligns perfectly with our strategy of offering authentic Irish hospitality in exceptional locations.' This Irish franchise deals with five hotels in particular, including Hotel Woodstock in Ennis and The House Hotel in Galway City. Michael Brett, General Manager of the hotel was also thrilled with the acquisition. 'It's an exciting transition going from family operated into a Hotel Group,' he said. 'My team & I are looking forward to working closely with Choice Hotel Group on the Walter Raleigh Hotel and look forward to leading a new beginning for the Hotel under their flag,' Mr Brett added. The group says it plans to undertake a 'sensitive refurbishment' of the hotel after the summer months to further elevate the guest experience, with a focus on preserving its unique period features while upgrading amenities in line with 'contemporary expectations'.

Experts weigh in on whether you should reserve your sunbed with a towel on holiday EVERY summer, hotels become the sites of frantic battles, as guests try to reserve the best loungers with their towels first thing in the morning. But etiquette and "Unless the hotel has a reservation system in place, only occupy the sunbeds when you're staying by the pool." Renowned etiquette expert, , believes there is a 30-minute grace period on poolside reservations. This is where William told the Sun Online Travel: "In the morning, at the start of the day, and you're by the pool after breakfast, then it's fine at 8.30 to put your towel on the bed to reserve your spot. "But later on in the day after you've used the lounger, and go off for a massage, for example, which is going to be an hour, then you can't use a towel to reserve the sun lounger." If you're grabbing some grub at lunchtime, William said He said: "It also gives your towel time to dry off." William said despite the grace period, "You can't hog the sun lounger for the entire day." Meanwhile, She told the Sun Online Travel: "I think it should be a first come first serve basis - if the resort doesn't have a booking system." 'No English food' Brit nan Susan Edwards, from Westerhope, Newcastle upon Tyne, jetted off in May with three cousins and her daughter for a seven-night stay at the Lido Corfu Sun Hotel on the Greek island. They were looking forwards to a week of relaxation, but the ordeal was "horrendous from the minute they got there," Susan said. She told Advertisement The grumbling gran was also dismayed at only being offered chips "one day out of the whole lot" during her £750pp week-long stay. Now the hotel's manager, Makis Triantafyllos, has hit back - alleging Susan's complaints were a ruse to claw money back. He told The Sun: "From the very beginning of her stay, [Susan] demonstrated clear intent to fabricate complaints in pursuit of financial compensation, going as far as to complain about the weather." He alleged she demanded to know from the staff: "Why is it raining?" Advertisement The manager claimed Susan's attitude had been "sarcastic and dismissive" to staff who did their best to accommodate her. The hotelier also fiercely defended the menu, saying the food service is "generous and diverse, offering fresh salads, fruits, hot and cold dishes daily". He fumed that Susan's account of the food was "entirely false and disrespectful to our culinary staff". And as for the "no English food" dig - Makis said the Sun Hotel offers "world-renowned and beloved Mediterranean cuisine" with other options tailored to guests' preferences - including those from the UK.
