KUALA LUMPUR, April 23 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG) on 22 April 2025 has held its 27th annual general meeting (AGM) to present the Company's performance to its shareholders for the financial year ended 31 December 2024. The AGM was chaired by PCG Chairman, Datuk Sazali Hamzah, with all the Board members, PCG Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Mazuin Ismail and Chief Financial Officer, Mohd Azli Ishak, in attendance. In addition, Mazuin shared the Company's performance, growth plans and outlook for 2025.
Improved Operational and Commercial Performance
In 2024, PCG demonstrated strong operational and commercial resilience despite significant challenges, including geopolitical disruptions, rising energy costs, and continued market oversupply. These factors led to inflationary pressure and slowed economic growth, further impacting the already competitive chemicals industry.

'The success of our participation will pave the way for job creation while further strengthening bilateral ties with Japan and other global partners,' he told a press conference after launching the opening ceremony of the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka here yesterday. In addition to the digital economy, Fadillah highlighted the green economy, Japanese technologies and global participation in Expo 2025 as key opportunities for Malaysia to explore. He noted that these opportunities position Sarawak not only as a hub for energy, particularly green energy, leveraging its hydropower resources, but also as a central player in Malaysia's Hydrogen Economy Roadmap and Energy Transition Roadmap. Regarding the signing of the 20 MOUs, Fadillah said the Malaysian Pavilion has facilitated several high-impact MOUs and strategic partnerships that reflect the country's forward-looking approach to regional collaboration, sustainable development and technological advancement. 'This agreement has covered a wide range of sectors, including renewable energy, digital, property services, biotechnology, caregiving innovation and infrastructure development. 'The key focus areas have included efforts to support decarbonisation, advance green hydrogen solutions, strengthen dementia care capabilities and promote smart facility systems and sustainable materials,' he said, reported Bernama. Collectively, the partnerships underscored the Malaysia Pavilion's role as a hub for generating tangible economic outcomes, also encouraging cross-border knowledge sharing and reinforcing Malaysia's position as a regional leader in clean technology, inclusive innovation and future-ready industries, said Fadillah. Earlier, in his opening speech, Fadillah said the Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 has surpassed the remarkable milestone of one million guests this week. Fadillah said Malaysia and Japan's longstanding relations and strong ties extended beyond economic relations, encompassing a shared commitment to regional stability and cultural understanding. The Malaysia Pavilion also unveiled its official mascot, 'Lina', a Malaysian girl who embarked on a journey of discovery and balance, guided by her older self through a future-inspired realm. Her evolving batik 'selempang', which transformed into songket, symbolised transformation, identity and hope. 'Lina' is a reflection of the next generation of Malaysians who are thoughtful, empowered and rooted in heritage while embracing global sustainability ideals.

S'wak govt committed to rural growth, says Uggah
KUCHING: The increase in rural development allocation for this year's Sarawak budget is a reflection of the state government's unwavering resolve to narrow the rural-urban gap and ensure equitable growth. Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said RM6.8bil had been allocated under the Sarawak 2025 Budget for rural development, which rose from RM5.695bil in 2024, indicating Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg's clear commitment to uplift the well-being of the rural communities. In his message for the Gawai Dayak festival, which begins today, Uggah said the rural development focus has seen major bridge projects being implemented as growth catalysts. 'Five (bridges) have already been completed, including the Batang Saribas 1 Bridge in Pusa, Betong and others such as the iconic Bintulu Jepak, Muara Lassa, Marudi and Batang Rajang bridges. 'Six more, including the nation's longest river bridge – Batang Lupar 1 – are expected to be completed by year-end,' said Uggah, who is also the State Minister of Infrastructure and Port Development, Bernama reported. He said that Gawai Dayak should be accepted as a festival to bridge inter-racial relationships in Sarawak, which has been a pertinent essence for the state to continue progressing. 'Just as bridges connect our cities and villages, this Gawai season should also serve as a 'bridge' to strengthen the bond of friendship, unity and harmony among us all. Let us celebrate our diversity under the spirit of 'Segulai Sejalai' or Together in Unity,' he added.

Anwar, Singapore Leaders Discuss Key Bilateral Issues

Anwar paid a courtesy call on Singapore President Tharman Shanmugaratnam at The Istana and also held a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, before flying home. 'We also reviewed ongoing projects, such as the Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link, set for completion by late 2026, and the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), which is expected to boost regional growth,' he posted on Facebook. Anwar is optimistic that the visit will strengthen cooperation between Malaysia and Singapore for mutual benefit. Meanwhile, Wong, in a Facebook post, said he looked forward to continuing the two countries' close partnerships for the benefit of the people. During the visit, Anwar delivered a special address at the 22nd Shangri-La Dialogue.
