Mamelodi Sundowns seek redemption at home against AmaZulu FC

After a disappointing 1-1 draw against Chippa United in their opening match of the new Betway Premiership season, defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns are determined to secure their first home victory.
Sundowns host AmaZulu at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Tuesday in their second Premiership match of the campaign. At the weekend in Gqeberha, Sundowns let a lead slip in their season opener and were forced to settle for a share of the spoils. However, as head coach Miguel Cardoso noted, there is much to rectify from that performance.
'We have to fight for the next one (AmaZulu), see the mistakes and try to build the team,' Cardoso said, reflecting on the need for growth and adaptation.

Meanwhile, AmaZulu will arrive looking to extend their positive momentum after a solid 1-0 victory over Orbit College on Saturday. They will be keen to exploit any uncertainty surrounding Sundowns and are fortified by a four-match unbeaten run in the Premiership.
Cardoso's tactical acumen will be tested with player availability concerns. Thapelo Morena remains sidelined due to injury, while doubts linger over Lucas Ribeiro and Khuliso Mudau amid transfer speculation.
The Sundowns boss, however, has reassured fans that despite a demanding schedule — which includes a crucial MTN8 semi-final against Orlando Pirates this weekend — the squad is ready to meet the challenge.
AmaZulu head coach Arthur Zwane has a clear understanding of the gravity of the encounter.
'We can't think because they drew their first game that perhaps it's going to be an easier game,' Zwane cautioned, recognising Sundowns' reputation for individual brilliance.
With players like Ribeiro and Peter Shalulile capable of decisive moments, AmaZulu's task will be to contain Sundowns' threats while capitalising on their own emerging talents. Among those to watch for the hosts is Arthur Sales, whose stock is rapidly rising after an assist and goal against Chippa.
On the flipside, AmaZulu's fast-rising star Tebogo Mashigo has been making headlines after impressive performances this season, including a goal against Stellenbosch and a key assist in their latest victory.

'The fire in me is fading' – Sundowns forgotten star on career struggles
Mamelodi Sundowns winger Thapelo Maseko has posted about his recent struggles at his club. The 21-year-old star has found it difficult to break into the Downs team since joining from SuperSport United two years ago. He only played a total of 14 league matches in three years for Masandawana and scored just once. His future at the club remains in doubt after he was left out of Mamelodi Sundowns' squad, which played in the FIFA Club World Cup. 'I don't know when it started, but lately it's like the fire in me is fading. I still train like my life depends on it, still push through every tired muscle, mental battle, but inside it feels empty,' Maseko posted on his Instagram page. 'The game that once lit up my soul is now different, heavier, and colder. It's a strange kind of pain, giving everything you have but feeling unseen. You tell yourself to keep going, but each day chips away at you. Your confidence starts to crumble, your joy fades, and the person you used to be feels like a memory you can't reach anymore. 'The hunger, the excitement, and the love for the grind have been slipping away piece by piece, now hope feels like something far off in the distance. 'I'm left wondering if I've ever get to that place again, this is what it's like to lose your spark and the hardest part is still showing up every single day, hoping you'll find it again,' the Sundowns winger said. Maseko was not featured in Downs' two matches this season and his exit looks more likely. Let us know by leaving a comment below, or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 0211. Maema and Kutumela on target to boost Bafana's hopes of being in last 16 at Chan
Bafana Bafana improved their chances of making it to the last-16 stage of Africa Nations Championship (Chan) after beating Guinea 2-1 at Mandela National Stadium in Kampala, Uganda, on Monday. Molefi Ntseki's side, which is made up mainly of unattached players, won through goals by skipper Neo Maema and Thabiso Kutumela, who has now scored two goals in this tournament. Maema, the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder who is set to join Simba SC of Tanzania on loam after the tournament, opened the scoring in the 10th minute after combining well with Kutumela who supplied the final pass. But Bafana always looked under pressure from the Guineans after taking the lead and duly conceded an equaliser in the 38th minute when they allowed Moussa Camara enough space to shoot inside the area.

Seema lauds Siwelele's winning start but urges more improvement
Coach Lehlohonolo Seema urges patience and improvement as Siwelele FC prepares for a tough away clash at Dobsonville Stadium after a confident Betway Premiership season opener. Photo; Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Siwelele FC coach Lehlohonolo Seema is pleased with how his side have started life in the Betway Premiership but warned that there is still a lot of work ahead. The team announced themselves in fine style with an impressive 3-1 victory over Golden Arrows at the Dr Petrus Molemela Stadium in their season opener. Their next challenge takes them to Orbit College's temporary home at Dobsonville Stadium on Tuesday (7.30 pm kick-off), as the North West-based outfit remains unable to use the Olympia Park Stadium for late matches due to ongoing floodlight repairs. Seema, making his return to the top flight after parting ways with Sekhukhune United midway through last season, was pleased with his team's performance but insisted there is still room for improvement ahead of the away trip. Advertisement Next Stay Close ✕ Ad loading Coming up against the Mwenko Boys — who suffered a 1-0 defeat against AmaZulu in their first ever top-flight match — Seema believes no team will be easy to beat this season and that a lot needs fixing before his side can become the unit he envisions. However, he was happy with his players' contributions. 'We are playing away from home on Tuesday, it's not going to be easy, no game will be easy,' Seema said. 'Everybody knows that we are the new kids on the block. We are not saying anything, the only thing is that we have to collect as many points as we can. 'Some of the things here we are still trying to find each other, the players are still trying to understand what I want. We have won, I am happy, but there is still a lot of things that did not go right. "We can keep the ball better and make better decisions. The goal we conceded was a soft goal, we need to defend better and make sure the opponent doesn't sniff any opportunities. 'The goals, the way they came, it was exactly how we wanted. Our transitions were better but there is still room to improve, but credit must go to the players.' A win is a good thing for your first ever game. Welcome to the PSL. — Mr President (@KG_ZA2025) August 10, 2025 Having bought the status of Supersport United, Siwelele took over several players from that squad who flew under the radar last season. With new surroundings and leadership, they have come alive as the team transitions from empty stadiums to potentially packed home venues this campaign. Vincent Pule and Siviwe Magidigidi were the stand-out performers, not only getting on the scoresheet but impressing throughout the contest. Despite still needing time to build a well-oiled team, Seema also called for consistency from his side, especially in home matches where they enjoy some of the strongest support in the country.
