KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested five people including four company directors, one of whom is a Bangladeshi national, on suspicion of submitting documents containing false information to obtain foreign worker permits.
According to a source, the four men and a woman, aged between 20 and 60, were arrested between 3pm and 6pm on Monday (June 23) while they were giving statements at the Selangor MACC office.
"Initial investigations found that all the suspects submitted the Manpower Recalibration Programme 2.0 application documents to the Selangor Immigration Department which contained false details.
"All the suspects, through their respective companies, are believed to have committed these acts around 2023 to 2024,' the source said.
The suspects have been remanded for four days from Tuesday (June 24) after the MACC application was approved by Magistrate Mohamad Redza Azhar Rezali at a Shah Alam Magistrate's Court.
Selangor MACC director Hairuzam Mohmad Amin confirmed the arrests when contacted, and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
However, he said three others who were also arrested in connection with the case on Monday were released on bail of RM10,000 each, with two sureties, on health grounds. – Bernama

Married couple denies child abuse charge
KANGAR: A married couple today denied charges of physically abusing their 10-year-old daughter in a case that has drawn attention to child welfare laws in Malaysia. The Sessions Court heard the plea from the 37-year-old mechanic and his homemaker wife, who face up to 20 years in prison if convicted. The alleged abuse occurred on June 18 at their residence in Taman Desa Saujana, Arau. Prosecutors charged the pair under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which covers neglect and cruelty toward children. The provision carries penalties including fines up to RM50,000 or imprisonment. Judge Sharifah Norazlita Syed Salim Idid granted bail at RM20,000 per defendant with strict conditions. 'The accused must report monthly to police and avoid any contact with the victim,' the court ordered. A July 17 mention date was set for document submission. Deputy Public Prosecutor Nabilah Ahmad Poad led the prosecution, while defense counsel S. Devendran represented the couple. Legal experts note this case highlights enforcement of Malaysia's child protection framework, particularly in domestic abuse scenarios.
