Selangor immigration tightens control on foreign workers after entry ban
KLANG: The Selangor Immigration Department remains committed to controlling the number of foreign workers in the state after the government halted new entries in May. Director Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin confirmed no new foreign worker arrivals have been recorded in Selangor, with enforcement efforts now targeting compliance among existing workers. 'To date, I understand that there are no new admissions; the existing number is already quite large,' he said during a press conference after Op Mahir in Meru. Khairrul Aminus stated the department conducts intelligence-based operations and public tip-offs to monitor foreign workers for permit violations and overstaying. He revealed inspections often uncover workers with valid entry permits but found breaching conditions such as working outside approved sectors. The department collaborates with agencies like the Labour Department and foreign embassies to verify worker placements and passport authenticity. Earlier, a raid on an aluminium factory in Meru led to the arrest of 43 foreigners, with 32 found holding punch cards indicating regular employment at the premises. Offences included work permit violations under Regulation 39B of the Immigration Regulations and lacking valid documents under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act. Khairrul Aminus highlighted cases of workers possessing blank passports without entry stamps or permits, and those with construction permits working in factories. 'Some used new passports after expiry but had no entry records, requiring embassy verification,' he added. – Bernama

43 foreigners held in Immigration raid on Meru aluminium factory
KLANG: Selangor Immigration Department officers detained 43 foreigners who were working illegally at an aluminium factory in Meru during a raid today. During the operation, a foreign worker attempted to jump from a hostel window to evade arrest but was foiled after officers grabbed him before he could escape. Others tried to dupe the enforcement officers by claiming they were only visiting friends at the factory. However, checks revealed they were working without valid documents. The incident occurred when the Selangor Immigration Department raided an aluminium factory along Jalan Perindustrian 5, Jalan Meru, at 11am today. Selangor Immigration Department director, Khairrul Aminus Kamaruddin, said 43 foreigners were arrested in the operation, mostly from Myanmar and Bangladesh. They were employed as general workers at the factory. He said checks found that 32 of them possessed time cards, proving that they were employed there. "Among the offences identified were violating work pass conditions under Regulation 39B of the Immigration Regulations, as well as failing to possess valid documents under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act. "Checks also found some foreigners with passports that were blank, without any entry stamps or work passes," he told reporters at the scene. He added that some of those detained held work permits for the construction sector but were instead working in the factory. "Investigations also found some had obtained new passports after their old ones expired, but there were no records of their entry into the country. "The authenticity of these passports will be referred to their respective embassies for verification. "As for the employer, further investigations will be carried out to ascertain the offences committed," he said. According to him, the factory also provided hostel accommodation for its workers, and this information will be referred to the Labour Department for further action. "The raid was carried out following a month-long intelligence operation after receiving public complaints regarding the presence of foreign workers at the premises. "We welcome public cooperation in providing information, whether in residential areas or factory premises," he said. Khairrul stressed that foreign workers were not allowed to arbitrarily switch sectors or employers. "If they are given a work pass for a company, they cannot simply work for another company or in a different sector. Any violations or offences under the law will be met with stern action," he said.
