Hamas Rejects Trump's Plan to "Take Over" Gaza

Daily Tribune05-02-2025

The Palestinian group Hamas has strongly condemned US President Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" the Gaza Strip following the resettlement of Palestinians elsewhere, calling his remarks 'irresponsible' and 'aggressive.' In a statement released on Wednesday, Hamas expressed that Trump's comments were harmful to the Palestinian cause and detrimental to regional stability.
The group reiterated its firm stance against any foreign occupation of Palestinian land, stating, 'We will not allow any state in the world to occupy our land or impose guardianship on our great Palestinian people.' Hamas called on both the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to convene urgently and respond with a firm position to safeguard the national rights of the Palestinian people.
Izzat Al-Rishq, a senior member of Hamas' political bureau, dismissed Trump's remarks as a reflection of "confusion and profound ignorance" regarding the Palestinian cause and the broader region. 'Gaza is not a common territory for any party to decide its fate; it is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian land,' Al-Rishq said. He emphasized that any resolution must prioritize ending the occupation and recognizing the legitimate rights of Palestinians, rather than focusing on domination or real estate-like transactions.
Al-Rishq also accused the US of showing unwavering bias in favor of the Israeli occupation, asserting that Trump's statements only reinforced America's ongoing aggression against Palestinians and their rights.
The controversy began late on Tuesday when Trump suggested that the US would "take over" Gaza as part of a plan to relocate Palestinians and transform the area into "the Riviera of the Middle East."

Bahrain Applauds ILO's Recognition of Palestine as Observer State

The International Labour Organization (ILO) has granted Palestine the status of a 'Non-Member Observer State' during its General Conference in Geneva—a move that has been warmly welcomed by the Kingdom of Bahrain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain lauded the ILO's decision, describing it as a "fresh wave of international affirmation" of the Palestinian people's right to full recognition and sovereignty. This elevation, Bahrain emphasized, is not merely a procedural upgrade, but a significant step in line with global support for Palestine's rightful place among the international community—particularly within the United Nations. 'This is more than a seat at the table. It's a message that echoes far beyond Geneva—that the world continues to recognize the legitimacy of the Palestinian cause,' the Ministry stated. Bahrain's response is anchored in its consistent and principled stance in support of Palestine's freedom, dignity, and self-determination. Citing alignment with UN General Assembly resolutions, the historic Bahrain Summit, and the Extraordinary Palestine Summit in Cairo, the Kingdom reiterated its full backing for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on the two-state solution. The Ministry further emphasized that any path toward lasting peace must be paved through international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative—frameworks that ensure justice, coexistence, and stability across the region. As Bahrain joins other nations in applauding this diplomatic development, the message is clear: solidarity with the Palestinian people remains firm, and the pursuit of peace continues—one recognition at a time.

Trump may get rid of his Tesla after Musk row: official

Trump may get rid of his Tesla after Musk row: official Washington, United States Donald Trump may now offload a Tesla he said he bought earlier this year in a show of support for Elon Musk, a White House official said yesterday, following a blazing row between the US president and his billionaire former advisor. The red electric vehicle, which retails for around $80,000, was still in a parking lot on the White House grounds on Friday, an AFP reporter said, a day after the very public meltdown between Trump and the South African-born tech tycoon. "He's thinking about it, yes," a senior White House official told AFP when asked if the Republican would sell or give away the Tesla. Tesla stocks had tanked more than 14 percent on Thursday amid the row, losing some $100 billion of the company's market value, but leapt back in early trading Friday. Trump, who does not drive as a president, said he was buying the Tesla in March to boost support for his mega-donor, whose brand -- and bottom line -- has been hit hard by public outrage over his role in slashing US government jobs. At a choreographed publicity stunt that turned the White House into a pop-up Tesla showroom, Trump praised the EV as a "great product" and lashed out on social media at "Radical Left" attacks against the world's richest person and his company. Trump's Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and another senior aide posed in the car as recently as last week, in a photograph posted on Musk's social media network X. "Taking President Trump's Tesla out for a ride," Trump's communications advisor Margo Martin posted. But the shiny red vehicle has now become an awkward symbol of the fiery political divorce between Trump, 78, and former Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Musk, 53. Trump said he was "very disappointed" by Musk and threatened to end his government contracts after his ex-aide criticized the president's flagship budget and policy mega-bill as an "abomination."
