Professor Brian Cox ‘excited' to receive Francis Crick Institute scholarship
As part of the scholarship, the 57-year-old will present a new podcast called A Question Of Science, produced by BBC Studios and recorded at the London biomedical research centre.
Cox said: 'Science doesn't happen in isolation. The way we fund it, regulate it, and apply it, all depend on reaching across boundaries.
'I'm excited to bring a different perspective to the Crick and its science, and I'm personally fascinated by the convergence of physics with the questions being asked by biologists at one of the best research institutions in the world.
'The podcast A Question Of Science, has already shown that the real experts have much to say about issues that affect all of us and that scientists can even be entertaining.'
His role will also see him promoting, explaining and exploring multidisciplinary research and championing the role of science in the world.
Paul Nurse, chief executive and director of the institute, said: 'We are very much looking forward to working with Brian, who will be a great addition to the Crick community.
'As scientists, it's important for us to remain outward facing. Brian has a natural ability to link the scientific community with wider society, pioneering new ways to engage the public and acting as an advocate for science and its potential to improve the lives of millions.'
The new podcast will launch on September 17, with episodes looking at subjects such as climate change, cures for cancer and AI, and will run for 12 episodes.
Cox is best known for BBC shows such as Brian Cox's Adventures In Space And Time, The Planets and Forces Of Nature.
Before becoming a physicist, Cox was a keyboard player in dance band D:Ream, who are best known for their song Things Can Only Get Better.

I've had so many compliments on this sell-out Marks & Spencer lace skirt - here's how to wear the latest version
Daily Mail journalists select and curate the products that feature on our site. If you make a purchase via links on this page we will earn commission - learn more A few skirt trends have caught my eye this season, but often the prettiest looks are not the most practical. Those satin slip skirts with lingerie-like lace trims? Lovely, but a bit clingy if you've ever had a baby/have just eaten a massive lunch. White midi skirts? I love the freshness, but can guarantee I'd have tea or toothpaste on there within five minutes. The lace maxi skirt however - now that is a trend I've got on board with, and I'm very pleased with my purchase. I bought Marks & Spencer's lace tiered maxi skirt earlier this year, and have been wearing it consistently throughout the warmer months, getting compliments from the discerning bunch at You magazine every time. It's clearly not just me that loves the skirt - it sold out quickly from M&S stores and online, much to the disappointment of a tres chic colleague who wanted to buy one too. However, the other day I was browsing the Marks & Spencer website when I came across a very similar style from the brand, the Lace Maxi Tiered Skirt (£50). One thing I really rate about M&S clothing is that a lot of their separates come in different lengths, which is helpful if you are 5 foot 9 like me, and a regular length maxi lands more like mid-calf than near the floor. Lace Maxi Tiered Skirt £50 Shop As well as the length of the skirt, I have also appreciated its versatility. You can dress it up for the office, or go super casual at the weekend with trainers and a tee. My only big warning would be to keep an eye on your footwear - I once wore biker-style buckled sandals with my skirt, and spent the whole day grimacing as hardware caught on lace and threatened to rip the skirt part (thank god to the fashion team at You magazine, who let me borrow some less threatening flats). Here are some of the key ways I've been styling the lace maxi... How to style a lace maxi skirt Outfit 1: Silk shirt and sandals Outfit 2: Oversized bomber and baby tee Outfit 3: Smart cardigan and suede shoes Outfit 4: Fine knit and trainers To get more of what you love from your favourite Sunday supplement, follow us on Instagram (@youmagazine), Facebook (YOU Magazine) and X (@YOUMagSocial).

'Really hope this was your decision @jordannorth1 and that it means bigger things for you - we love you and will miss you v much xx.' He now co-hosts the Capital Breakfast show on Capital FM alongside Chris Stark and Sian Welby.

Before a third penned: "Amazing took her off wonderfully." The video will no doubt make Katie's blood boil following her colourful past with Francine. The actress and comedy star previously revealed all to The Sun on how their friendship had turned frosty before they managed to recoup things in the mid 2000s before they once again went down hill following her BGT stint. They were engaged between 1998 and 1999, but dated from 1996, and he was her first high profile romance and engagement. 5 Warren had also met Francine through another TV show he was filming at the time, and he ended up introducing his friend, Joel, who would become Francine's husband, to the talented actress. Francine added: "Me and Warren were a bit like Rachel and Ross, will they, won't they? "But we never did. We had the odd kiss, that was it. Then I met Joel." Francine and Katie eventually became friends through their partners, and Katie apprently love Francine's impressions of her. She previously said: "At the time, she loved it, she used to make me ring her brother and mum. In fact, when she was on I'm A Celeb she was talking about me doing it. "But we then lost touch and we weren't friends anymore and on BGT I maybe pushed it a little bit too far on the final, I don't think she liked it, put it that way… "I've got nothing against Katie, she was at my wedding, I was at her wedding."
