Mum's simple paddling pool hack that'll save you from having to blow it up yourself – it's a total game changer

The Sun03-05-2025

WITH warm weather finally upon us, many families are dusting off their paddling pools in preparation for some fun in the sun.
However, the thought of blowing one up can often feel like a tiresome chore, leaving you out of breath and drained before the fun even begins.
Thankfully, a clever mum hack has surfaced on TikTok, showing that it doesn't have to be such a struggle.
This simple trick aims to save you time and energy, meaning more time for having fun and soaking up the sunshine.
Mum-of-three Cassandra, known as ' xcassandracx ' on TikTok, shared a video of her hack, calling it a gamechanger.
She captioned the video: 'Anything for that cold glass of Prosecco in the sun and the kids to play happily.'
Cassandra said all you need is an empty plastic bottle and a hairdryer to blow up your paddling pool with ease.
She cut the lid end off a plastic bottle, then inserted her hairdryer into the cut opening, ensuring the bottle maintained a circular shape at the wider end.
This created a makeshift pump, which she inserted into the valve of the paddling pool, using the hairdryer on a cold setting to inflate it effortlessly.
She claimed it was the 'mum hack of the summer".
Her video has gained thousands of views, with 99 people liking it and 16 rushing to the comments section to share their thoughts.

How to save money on summer essentials
SUNNIER days and warmer weather will leave many of us wanting to kit out gardens and outdoor areas.
Sun Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to get a great deal on summer essentials…
It pays to know how to bag big savings on the likes of hot tubs paddling pools, egg chairs and outside bars.
Many retailers have flash sales across entire ranges – often this ties into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends.
Sign up to the mailing lists of your favourite brands and you'll be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
Keep a close eye on the specialbuys at Aldi and middle of Lidl drops which drop a couple of times a week and usually mean great value seasonal items such as beach gear and paddling pools.
If you are not in a hurry to buy an item, try adding it to the shopping cart and leaving it for a couple of days.
Sometimes big brands will try to tempt you into the sale by offering you a discount.
Always check if you can get cashback before paying. It's especially worth using sites such as Topcashback, Quidco and app Jamdoughnut when buying bigger ticket items such as garden furniture as you'll get a nice kickback.

I ordered a pretty cake for my birthday but what arrived was so ugly – people say it ‘looks like a five-year-old did it'

A YOUNG woman has revealed that she ordered herself what she thought would be a trendy and pretty cake to celebrate her birthday. Eager to kick off her celebrations in style, Alexandra Tobie splashed the cash on a personalised birthday treat. 2 2 But when her cake arrived, the content creator was lost for words and left in tears by the fail. And not only have people said they 'wouldn't have paid' for the cake, but others suggested it looked like it had been made by a child. Posting on social media, Alexandra gave her followers a close-up look at the glamorous cake she had requested, as she wrote: 'What I ordered…' Alexandra had asked for a pink heart-shaped cake, with a bold black font that read 'That Girl Since '03'. The cake she had in mind featured incredibly neat piping around the edges and even had a glitter spray on it. But moments later, Alexandra shared a snap of what she actually got, which unfortunately looked nothing like she had hoped. While the cake was in fact pink, the black text was instead yellow and nowhere near as stylish. Not only this, but the cake itself wasn't the same heart shape Alexandra had asked for. And if that wasn't bad enough, the top of the cake featured a rogue blue heart, as well as a random splodge of blue icing, which appeared to be a mistake. Clearly gutted with her birthday cake, alongside a crying and broken heart emoji, Alexandra sobbed: 'It's so ugly omg.' The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @ alexandratobie_, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has amassed 82,100 views. Herbs in Water: Store fresh herbs like parsley and coriander in a glass of water, then cover with a plastic bag to keep them fresh for weeks. Wrap Greens in Paper Towels: Wrap leafy greens in paper towels before placing them in a plastic bag. The towels absorb excess moisture, preventing wilting. Use Mason Jars: Store salads, chopped vegetables, and even leftovers in mason jars. They are airtight and keep food fresher for longer. Revive Stale Bread: Sprinkle a bit of water on stale bread and pop it in the oven for a few minutes to make it fresh again. Baking Soda for Odours: Place an open box of baking soda in your fridge to absorb odours and keep food tasting fresh. Freeze Herbs in Olive Oil: Chop herbs and freeze them in olive oil using an ice cube tray. This preserves their flavour and makes them easy to use. Keep Cheese Fresh: Wrap cheese in wax paper instead of plastic wrap. Wax paper allows the cheese to breathe, preventing it from becoming slimy. Store Avocados with Onions: Place a cut avocado in an airtight container with a slice of onion. The sulphur compounds in the onion slow down oxidation, keeping the avocado fresh. Use Vinegar Wash for Berries: Rinse berries in a mixture of water and vinegar (one cup of vinegar to three cups of water) before storing. This kills bacteria and mould spores, extending their shelf life. Egg Freshness Test: To check if eggs are still fresh, place them in a bowl of water. Fresh eggs will sink, while old ones will float. Implement these clever hacks to maximise the freshness of your food and make the most of your groceries. Social media users were left 'screaming' by the cake blunder and many eagerly flocked to the comments to share their thoughts on Alexandra's purchase. One person said: 'I know my entire year would be ruined with a cake like that!' Another added: 'Even the colours are not communicating. I'd cry a river.' A third commented: 'They didn't even try.' Meanwhile, someone else slammed: 'I wouldn't have paid.' At the same time, a mother chimed in and claimed: 'Looks like my five year old did it.'

Posh puts on a brave face as she shares message with fans amid family feud

With Brooklyn Beckham and his wife Nicola Peltz continuing to distance themselves from the close-knit family, cryptic social media posts have cemented concerns of a feud Singer-turned-designer Victoria Beckham has put on a brave face in her latest Instagram video, but the mother-of-four looks like she's carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders amid her estrangement from son Brooklyn. Victoria, 51, has shared a clip of herself applying make up to promote her Victoria Beckham Beauty range. The Spice Girls star could be seen with a white towel wrapped around her hair, wearing a personalised silky robe while she talked into the camera. With dewy skin and her usual perfect make up, she described her new summer look to her 32.9 million followers, giving a tutorial on how to use her Satin Kajal Liner in Terracotta. ‌ Fashion icon Victoria admitted she "spent a lot of time obsessing" over the colours in her make up range, telling fans about how different her products are to other things on the market. But she seemed more downbeat than usual in the clip, with her concern over her son's relationship with his family likely to be laying heavy on her. ‌ The family's fall-out with eldest son Brooklyn, 26, and his wife Nicola Peltz, 30, has caused speculation among fans that a feud has emerged. Various cryptic videos have been posted on both sides of the rift, while Brooklyn completely missed out on his dad David 's 50th birthday celebrations - making him the only member of the family not to attend. A recent interview with Glamour's German magazine saw Brooklyn and Nicola open up on their relationship and the pressures fame has put on them. When asked about how he protects his relationship in the spotlight, Brooklyn said: "Ignore the noise. Keep your head down, work hard, be kind. People are always going to talk. What matters is that we're happy together." Nicola added: "It's not always easy. On TikTok there are always random stories popping up about us. When I see fake news, my instinct is to shut it down. But it's not worth it. I just scroll past and move on." Nicola, who is the daughter of American billionaire businessman Nelson Peltz and former model Claudia Heffner Peltz, married Brooklyn, Victoria and David Beckham's eldest son, in 2022. The interview seemed to show Nicola and Brooklyn distancing themselves from his close-knit family. ‌ When a customer asked about his Cloud23 hot sauce brand's name, a member of his team explained: "The 23 included in our brand is a warm nod to Brooklyn's father, David Beckham, who wore number 23 while playing for Real Madrid and LA Galaxy, inspired by NBA legend Michael Jordan." But in Brooklyn's interview in April with Glamour, he offered up a new meaning: "The 23 stands for our engagement date and my age back then." Fresh images of Brooklyn also show that his tribute to Victoria, a tattoo reading: "Mama's boy," has been covered up. ‌ In an Instagram video shared in May, Brooklyn appeared to clearly pledge allegiance to Nicola. Showing him take his wife for an early morning motorbike ride, he wrote: "My whole world x I will love you forever x I always choose you baby x you're the most amazing person i know xx me and you forever baby." Less than a day after Brooklyn's pointed statement, his brother Cruz Beckham, 20 shared what seemed to be a response. He posted a clip of one of his mum Victoria's songs from her solo self-titled album, Every Part Of Me, writing simply: "Listen." The lyrics read: "I think you should know that people gonna come and go. Be assured of this one thing, I will still remain. I know that there will come a day when you have to go away. But you have no reason to fear, I promise I'll be here if someone ever breaks your heart. "And you feel your world is torn apart. My love for you will bring you through hard times. I'll help you be strong." The song poignantly ends: "I'll always love you so... You'll always be my baby."
