Yoga Day now a global movement: U.P. governor

Uttar Pradesh governor and chancellor of state universities Anandiben Patel on Monday held an online meeting with vice chancellors and other officers of all the state universities regarding the preparations for the International Yoga Day-2025 to be celebrated on June 21.
Highlighting the importance of the theme of Yoga Day this year, 'Yoga for One Earth, One Health', she said the theme not only strengthens the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam (the world is one family, but also calls upon the entire humanity to make yoga a part of their lifestyle.
The governor said the International Yoga Day has become a global mass movement through which healthy lifestyle, mental balance, social harmony and environmental awareness are being promoted. She directed to chalk out yoga programmes to be organised in the series in universities in the run-up to the International Yoga Day from June 1 to 21.
She said cleanliness, music and yoga should be integrated and documented so that a book can be prepared by compiling it. The governor also directed to encourage events like cycle tours and padayatras. Besides, she stressed on motivating everyone to have nutritious and balanced diet so that the overall lifestyle can be improved.
Patel made the universities aware of the 10 major activities announced by the ministry of AYUSH and directed them to ensure active participation in these schemes. The universities should also connect with foreign universities at its level and organise yoga sessions. Special yoga sessions should be organised for senior citizens, boys and girls and students with special needs, she added.
The governor specifically directed that every university should regularly organise yoga related activities at its subordinate colleges so that students can develop the habit of a healthy lifestyle from childhood.

Our goal is to build a healthy, self-reliant, skilled, and empowered Odisha," said Majhi at the state-level celebration of 11th International Yoga Day at Kalinga Stadium here. Addressing a gathering of nearly 15,000 participants, including ministers, MPs, MLAs, senior officials, and public, Majhi said yoga is not just a form of physical exercise, but a holistic discipline that unites the body, mind, and soul. "Although it originated from Indian culture and yogic traditions, it is not tied to any specific religion. Yoga, is embraced today by people of all races, religions, and castes," he said. This year's theme, "Yoga for One Earth, One Health," highlights the connection between individual wellness and health of the planet. "AIIMS Bhubaneswar has been exploring the therapeutic potential of yoga across various medical disciplines," said Dr Ashutosh Biswas, executive director. Among others, Indian Coast Guard (ICG) district headquarters, Odisha, and other ICG units at Paradip organised yoga sessions with NCC cadets, fishing communities, CISF jawans, and school and college students. The day-long celebrations, anchored around the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health", reflected Jharkhand's growing commitment to holistic wellness and mental peace. At the city's central venue, Birsa Munda Fun Park, hundreds joined the grand yoga practice session led by health minister Irfan Ansari. "Yoga is not merely physical exercise; it is a lifestyle rooted in Indian tradition. In these times of stress, yoga provides mental clarity and physical strength," he said, adding that chief minister Hemant Soren envisions a "Swasth Jharkhand" and yoga is a cornerstone in that direction. He highlighted that nearly 1,000 trained yoga instructors are active in Jharkhand's 745 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and emphasised the govt's plans to build Dhanvantari AYUSH hospitals in Ranchi and East Singhbhum. The state is also running yoga training for students in classes 6–12. "If every citizen devotes even a few minutes daily to yoga, the result will be a healthier society," said Ansari. MP Captain Brijesh Chowta said yoga is one of the greatest gifts India has given to humanity across the world. At the International Yoga Day event organised at the Kudmul Ranga Rao town hall, he said, "Yoga is an excellent means to achieve a better way of life." DC Darshan HV said that yoga day is not limited to India alone but is observed in over 160 countries. "Yoga must become an integral part of our lifestyle," he said. A unique jala yoga session was organised at the city corporation swimming pool, which featured around 40 participants performing yoga in water.
