International Yoga Day
with mass participation across institutions.
The day-long celebrations, anchored around the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health", reflected Jharkhand's growing commitment to holistic wellness and mental peace.
At the city's central venue, Birsa Munda Fun Park, hundreds joined the grand yoga practice session led by health minister Irfan Ansari. "Yoga is not merely physical exercise; it is a lifestyle rooted in Indian tradition. In these times of stress, yoga provides mental clarity and physical strength," he said, adding that chief minister Hemant Soren envisions a "Swasth Jharkhand" and yoga is a cornerstone in that direction.
He highlighted that nearly 1,000 trained yoga instructors are active in Jharkhand's 745 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, and emphasised the govt's plans to build Dhanvantari AYUSH hospitals in Ranchi and East Singhbhum. The state is also running yoga training for students in classes 6–12. "If every citizen devotes even a few minutes daily to yoga, the result will be a healthier society," said Ansari.
Across schools, the enthusiasm was palpable.

(Sunil Ghosh/HT Photo) District magistrate Manish Kumar Verma lauded the scale of public engagement, saying, 'Gautam Budh Nagar has witnessed overwhelming participation in Yoga Day events this year. Citizens from every walk of life came forward to embrace yoga. It is a strong medium to unite humanity and strengthen the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.' Minister in charge for Gautam Budh Nagar, Brijesh Singh; principal secretary of tourism, culture and religious affairs Mukesh Kumar Meshram; and the DM jointly inaugurated the event. 'Yoga is not merely a physical exercise; it is a spiritual discipline and a form of daily sadhana,' Singh said. 'Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, International Yoga Day has evolved into a global movement promoting unity, concentration, and positive thinking.' Meshram called yoga 'a powerful tool to manage stress and improve well-being in today's high-pressure lifestyle' and credited the increased awareness to PM Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath. The event also featured a free health check-up camp by Arogya India Wellness Centre, where the minister underwent screening. A tree plantation drive was also held, emphasising environmental consciousness alongside physical wellness. Yoga Day celebrations extended across residential societies in Noida and Greater Noida. 'RWAs across Noida enthusiastically participated…organising community sessions in parks and open spaces,' said KK Jain, general secretary of the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Association. 'Yoga fosters a sense of unity and mindfulness within our neighbourhoods.' Meanwhile in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh deputy chief minister Keshav Prasad Maurya led the district-level celebrations at IMS University Courses Campus near Dasna, accompanied by UP principal secretary Amrit Abhijat, local MLAs and MP Atul Garg. 'About 1,500 residents participated in the programme and were part of the Yoga Day programme,' said district magistrate Deepak Meena. The Ghaziabad municipal corporation also hosted Yoga Day sessions across parks citywide, with participation from residents and municipal staff. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) conducted yoga sessions at its headquarters and at the roundabout of the Madhuban Bapudham housing scheme. 'In a fast-paced life, the common man should turn to yoga to maintain wellbeing and health,' said GDA vice-chairperson Atul Vats. Officials of the forest department also took part in a special session held at the Shri Vidya School campus in Aditya World City along NH-9, where participants performed yoga for two hours and planted fruit-bearing saplings. International Yoga Day, observed annually on June 21, was first proposed by Prime Minister Modi at the UN General Assembly in 2014 and has since gained global recognition.

Gurugram unites for Yoga Day with mass events and anti-drug campaign

Hundreds of residents across the district participated in mass yoga sessions, wellness workshops, and public events on Saturday to mark the 11th International Yoga Day. Held under the twin themes of 'One Earth, One Health' and 'Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt Haryana', the daylong celebrations reflected a shared message of physical wellness, mental clarity, and social responsibility. Haryana minister Rao Narbir Singh performs yoga at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurugram Sector 38 on Saturday. (HT Photo) The district-level event, spearheaded by the Gurugram administration and the AYUSH (Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and Homoeopathy) department, was headlined at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Sector 38. Haryana industries and commerce minister Rao Narbir Singh inaugurated the event, calling yoga a 'global movement inspired by India' and 'a lifestyle that aligns us with the rhythm of the universe'. Singh used the platform to push the state's anti-drug campaign, 'Yoga Yukt, Nasha Mukt Haryana', urging young people to embrace yoga as a path to mindfulness. 'This campaign will lead our young generation towards mindfulness and away from destructive habits,' he said. Singh also appealed to the public to take responsibility for environmental sustainability: 'Say no to polythene, plant trees, and make green living a part of your daily life.' He asked each citizen to plant at least one sapling annually. The event opened with a group rendition of the Haryana state anthem 'Jai Jai Haryana' and included a live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address and a message from Chief Minister Nayab Saini, delivered from Kurukshetra. Participants were guided through asanas, pranayama, and breathing techniques by trained instructors. Beyond the stadium, yoga sessions were held across Gurugram, including at malls, residential complexes, construction sites, and parks. Ambience Mall, in collaboration with Fitness First, hosted themed sessions focused on inner peace and energy balance. Celebrations extended far beyond the main venue. In a key highlight, Bollywood actor Malaika Arora took part in a yoga session at DLF Cyber Hub, where she emphasised the practice's continuing role in her personal life. 'Yoga grounds me in every phase—whether I'm on screen or off it,' Arora said, encouraging participants to embrace it not just as fitness, but as a way of living. Society-level drives were held at Orris Greenopolis, Central Park Flower Valley, Vipul Greens, and Vatika India Next, led by certified trainers. The Elan Group's 'Soulset' event introduced a modern twist, featuring Bollywood actor Sonal Chauhan as the brand ambassador. 'Soulset is not just an event—it's about creating mindful, meaningful living,' said Vidhi Attri, Head of Marketing at Elan Group. In another wellness initiative, Whiteland Corporation hosted a Sound Healing workshop, conducted by wellness expert Sanjay Warke and curated by Vishuddhii, offering calming vibrations aimed at stress relief and emotional balance. Adding a philosophical lens, Acharya Pankhuri Srivastava highlighted the deeper roots of yoga, citing Patanjali's Yoga Sutra: 'Yoga is the cessation of the fluctuations of the mind.' She added, 'When we cultivate inner stillness, we contribute to building a more balanced and harmonious society.'

From pimples to peptides: How Gen Z turned the dermatologist into a beauty guru

Dermatology clinics are the new beauty salons. Consumers in urban India are no longer walking into a dermat's office with just eczema, psoriasis or some other chronic skin condition. They are increasingly consulting the dermatologist for everyday skin requirements, from dealing with pimples and dandruff to enhancing the skin texture and glow. The trend is mostly driven by teenagers and young adults, but older people, both women and men, are too seeking expert medical help for skin conditions that previously were managed with home remedies. Last year, Suresh (name changed to protect privacy) rushed to a South Delhi dermatologist, worried about pimples—'Can adults get pimples?' was one of his questions to the doctor. The 41-year-old was anxious that it would affect his looks at social engagements. The treatment cost him ₹20,000. 'The stigma around seeking help for 'non-serious' skin concerns has also faded,' says Bengaluru-based Priyanka Reddy, chief dermatologist and founder of DNA Skin Clinic, who has 556,000 followers on Instagram. People today are far more informed about skin health than they were ever before, thanks to social media, beauty influencers and easy access to medical info online. Live Events Both Indian and international companies have been focusing on science-backed skincare brands for a few years now. From Minimalist, now owned by Unilever, to Cetaphil, CeraVe and Honasa Consumer-owned The Derma Co, many brands are vying for the same section of the skincare market: the young and informed consumer. 'We've seen a noticeable uptick in both age groups (Gen Z and Gen Alpha),' says Chytra Anand, dermatologist and founder of Kosmoderma, a Bengaluru-based chain of dermatology clinics. Evidence-based Self-care 'In fact, teens and young adults now make up nearly 20% of new consultations at our clinics. For the 12–18 age group, the top concern is acne—mostly hormonal and sometimes compounded by lifestyle issues like diet, screen time, and stress. There's a growing interest in skin texture and glow, thanks again to beauty influencers and filter-free selfies,' adds Anand. Young consumers are taking 'picture-perfect' quite literally. According to Alok Malik, president and business head - India Formulations at Glenmark Pharmaceuticals , the rise in dermatologist consultations is not just a medical trend; it reflects a broader shift towards evidence-based self-care. 'We are seeing increased usage, which is intentional and informed adoption, with consumers actively choosing science-backed skincare over cosmetic hype,' he says. Known for brands like Maxrich YU, Episoft, Bontress and La Shield Kids, Glenmark has been pushing the prescription vs OTC line of skincare for years now. It is using a combination of dermatological recommendations and modern retail inclusive of ecommerce to reach the target audience. Dermatologists charge ₹1,000–4,000 or more for a visit in India's major cities. This is just the consultation fee. Chances are the doctor will prescribe serums with active ingredients, moisturisers and face wash—a three-four step routine based on products which would cost another ₹10,000 or more. 'Earlier, people would only see a dermatologist for chronic conditions like acne, eczema, or pigmentation that had persisted for years. Now, even a new pimple, suntan, or mild sensitivity prompts a visit, and rightly so,' adds Reddy. 'Skin is our largest organ, and people are beginning to treat it with the same seriousness they give to diet or fitness.' While this is still a fairly urban phenomenon, market research company Statista estimates India's skin treatments market to reach about $895 million (nearly ₹7,750 crore) this year. More than 64% of the customers of Foxtale, a Mumbai-based skincare startup, are Gen Z and the older edge of Gen Alpha — 'those just stepping into their teenage years', says Romita Mazumdar, its CEO and founder. 'On our website, we've seen a 2x increase in ingredient-specific search terms in the last year alone; terms like 'niacinamide', 'glycolic acid' and 'peptides' are constantly searched,' she says. 'Even parents are encouraging early visits, which is great. I've had 15-year-olds ask if they should combine azelaic acid with niacinamide, and college students worried about barrier repair after using too many actives,' says Anand.
