Benefits cheat who said she couldn't stand to cook caught after posting 10k run photos on Facebook

A benefits cheat who lied about her multiple sclerosis (MS) to claim more than £20,000 was caught after competing in scores of running events and sharing them on social media.
Sara Morris, 50, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005 but in 2020 she exaggerated the extent of her condition and claimed Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
The mother-of-three inflated the severity of her MS and also claimed to be so anxious when she left the house that even a trip to the pharmacy to collect her medication left her in tears.
She had also claimed that she lacked balance, and was unable to get out of her bath nor stand at her cooker.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard she failed to mention to the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) that she was in fact a member of the Stone Master Marathoners and regularly ran 5km and 10km races.
She was caught out by her own Facebook posts of her running.
Morris, of Walton Way, Stone, was overpaid £20,528.83 between October 20, 2020 and April 25, 2023.
She pleaded guilty to dishonestly making a false statement to obtain a benefit and was jailed for eight months last July. During her court case, she accepted that her application 'crossed over into the realms of dishonesty'.
She ended up serving nine weeks in total and recently reappeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court for a Proceeds of Crime hearing.
Judge Graeme Smith was told Morris benefited from her criminality by £22,386.02 and the available amount was £60,000. He ordered Morris to repay £22,386.02 within 28 days or serve nine months in prison in default.

Old protest clip filmed in Pakistan-held Kashmir, not India

"The video is said to be from Jammu and Kashmir," reads the Hindi-language caption to the video filmed from a serpentine mountain road. "After ceasefire, as CRPF and CISF troops were returning from borders, Muslim traitors attacked their convoy with stones," adds the May 26, 2025 Facebook post, using the acronyms for paramilitary organisations functioning under India's Home Ministry (archived link). "In response, the forces opened fire. Chaos ensued, in which nine stone pelters slipped and died. The army recorded the entire incident via drone. Several security vehicles were damaged." Similar posts also rocketed on X and Threads following the worst fighting between India and Pakistan in decades that brought the nuclear-armed rivals to the brink of war. The crisis was triggered by an attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir that New Delhi accuses it neighbour of supporting. Islamabad denies the charge. More than 70 people on both sides died in the four-day military confrontation that ensued, which ended with an unexpected ceasefire on May 10 (archived link). AFP found no official reports the incident described in the false posts occurred following the crisis, and the circulating video has been misrepresented. A reverse image search of keyframes found a longer version published on Facebook on May 15, 2024 (archived link). "Kashmiris Pelting Stones At The Convoy Of Pakistani Security Forces In Pakistan Occupied Kashmir," reads its caption. An AFP journalist watched the video and was able to identify the mountain pass as Lohar Gali in Pakistan-administered Kashmir's Muzaffarabad region. Corresponding visuals on Google Maps confirm the location (archived link). Pakistani news outlets Dawn and Geo News Urdu embedded similar visuals in reports about the incident (archived here and here). According to Dawn newspaper, at least three civilians were killed and several others injured after a paramilitary force operating under the Pakistan Army opened fire at people protesting against rising prices of wheat-flour and inflated electricity bills (archived link). AFP has debunked the barrage of misinformation around the recent South Asia crisis here.

Teacher, poet, and entrepreneur: Who was slain hostage Judith Weinstein Haggai?

Judy was volunteering on the kibbutz when she heard Gadi playing the flute and fell in love, the kibbutz said. The body of hostage Judith Weinstein Haggai, a 70-year-old member of Kibbutz Nir Oz, was returned to Israel early Thursday morning, the IDF announced. She and her husband, Gadi Haggai, were killed on October 7, 2023, and their bodies were taken to Gaza. Judy was 70 years old, a mother of four, and a grandmother of seven. She was an English teacher specializing in children with special needs, and she worked with children with anxiety by using meditation and mindfulness methods. She was a poet and entrepreneur, and was dedicated to working for peace and brotherhood, her kibbutz said. "Judi Weinstein Haggai had a habit of writing haiku every morning - a poem of one or two sentences - and posting it on Facebook," Kibbutz Nir Oz said on Instagram. "The last one she wrote was on October 7th. The poems she wrote over the years were published in poetry books." 'We welcome the closure that we have been granted and the return for burial of our loved ones, who went out for a walk on that Black Sabbath morning and never came back," the Weinstein Haggai family said Thursday. Nir Oz thanked the IDF and security forces who carried out the complex rescue operation. They also thanked "everyone who supported, struggled, prayed, and fought for us and for all of Israel," as well as the FBI, and the US and Israeli governments. "However, our hearts will not be whole until all 12 hostages from Nir Oz and all 56 hostages in total are brought back," the statement concluded. Judy and Gadi were the "power couple of Kibbutz Nir Oz." Judy was volunteering on the kibbutz when she heard Gadi playing the flute and fell in love, the kibbutz said. "They complete each other: he's a goofball, just like a little kid, always dancing and laughing, while Judy is an English teacher, taking care of children, and sharing meditation and mindfulness techniques," the kibbutz said. Haggai and his wife had been out walking early on October 7 when Hamas terrorists attacked them according to the Hostage Family Forum. Their daughter, Iris, heard in a phone call that they were hiding and that her father was injured and later lost contact with them. The terrorists kidnapped both of them and took them to Gaza.

Wanted Washington dad Travis Decker seen in doorbell footage before allegedly murdering his 3 daughters

The Washington dad wanted for the murders of his three daughters was spotted on security cameras in the days leading up to the brutal killings as police ramp up their search for the military-trained suspect. Doorbell footage captured Travis Decker walking up to an unidentified home's door, knocking on it before strangely sliding his hand up and down the surface, according to video released by the Chelan County Sheriff's Office on Wednesday evening. Authorities noted the video was from before the alleged killings, but released the footage as they are the most recent images of Decker. 6 Travis Decker was spotted on a Ring doorbell camera days before his three daughters' bodies were discovered on June 2, 2025. Chelan County Sheriff's Office Decker, 32, is wanted on three counts of murder and kidnapping after the bodies of his three daughters –Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 – were discovered in a remote campground near his abandoned truck. Police also shared two other images of the 32-year-old military veteran that showcased his bushy mustache and chin beard. Decker, who is homeless and has been living out of his truck, also has multiple arm tattoos and was sporting a ponytail in one of the pictures. He was described as 5-foot-8 inches, 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. 'It is unknown if he is armed at this time but he should be considered dangerous and should not be contacted or approached,' the sheriff's department noted. 6 The bodies of his three daughters -Paityn, 9, Evelyn, 8, and Olivia, 5 – were discovered in a remote Washington campground. Chelan County Sheriff's Office Decker had picked up his daughters from his ex-wife Whitney Decker's house for a scheduled custody visit on May 30 and brought them to a campground in the rural Washington State city of Wenatchee. The girls' mother reported the trio missing at 9:45 p.m. Friday after her ex-husband failed to return them home. An endangered missing persons alert was issued Saturday before it was canceled Monday after police discovered the girls. Their bodies were found in an embankment at Rock Island Campground, about 18 miles west of the town of Leavenworth, at around 5 p.m. Their bodies were found close to their father's white 2017 GMC Sierra truck, which allegedly had two bloody handprints smeared on the back. They were found with plastic bags over their heads and their wrists zip-tied. Preliminary investigations indicate the girls likely died from asphyxiation. Officials believe Decker, who was a member of the Washington National Guard since 2021 after transferring from the Active Component, can survive for months off-grid in the wilderness. 'We understand that at times, he would do cashing, so we understand that's a possibility that he could have scoped out this area before, put some supplies out there, and has the ability and knowledge to survive for long periods of time,' Sheriff Morrison said at a press conference Wednesday night, KIRO7 reported. 6 The girls' mother reported the trio missing at 9:45 p.m. Friday after her ex-husband failed to return them home. Chelan County Sheriff's Office 'Thanks to our Marshall's Office tracking down some good leads that we feel are giving us more of an insight into Travis' mindset – where he may have gone to,' Morrison added. A $20,000 reward is available for information leading to Decker's arrest.
