One of the Caribbean's largest and busiest cruise ports came very close to being impacted by a fire that ravaged the local community late Thursday, May 1.
The blaze broke out in an abandoned building located off Bay Street in Nassau, Bahamas, just steps from the Nassau Cruise Port, and spread quickly to an adjacent apartment complex, destroying the homes of more than two dozen residents.

Although firefighters were unable to stop the fire from displacing residents, they did get it under control before it reached the cruise port, where thousands of passengers were scheduled to arrive throughout the weekend on more than a dozen cruise ships.

Major fire breaks out very close to Nassau cruise port
Transcript:
Cruise News Today with Doug Parker.
Good morning, here's your cruise news for Friday, May 2nd. We're following a story where an overnight fire has devastated part of East Bay Street in Nassau, Bahamas, just 900 feet from the city's cruise port.
The blaze began shortly after 7 p.m. local time Thursday evening and quickly spread, engulfing multiple structures by midnight. As the fire spread, Nassau's International Airport was shut down and used as a staging area for fire trucks. For reference, Bay Street is a main thoroughfare passengers walk to after exiting the cruise port.
A listener emailed our tip line describing several loud booms as the fire jumped from building to building, reportedly destroying more than a dozen homes. Today, more than 22,000 cruise passengers are expected to arrive in Nassau aboard Disney Dream, Carnival Freedom, Celebration, MSC Seascape, and Virgin Voyages Scarlet Lady. At the time of broadcast, there is no official word on the cause of the fire or any injuries.

Norwegian Cruise Line updating two ships
And Norwegian Cruise Line is upgrading two of its ships ahead of its summer cruise season. Norwegian Epic will re-enter service in the Med on May 8th after a dry dock in Marseille, France, that has added new staterooms in a revamped adult and kids' area, including a new Vibe Beach Club and updated Aqua Park.
Meanwhile, Pride of America enters dry dock tomorrow with upgrades including more cabins, a new Starbucks, a pickleball court, and a relocated youth club. She resumes Hawaii sailings on June 7th.

And Port Canaveral is investing nearly $500 million into port upgrades as part of its "Port Canaveral Advantage" plan. Now, the country's second busiest cruise port is expanding Cruise Terminal 5 and 6 to handle larger ships.
Terminal 10 will also see improvements. The port saw 7.6 million cruise passenger movements last year and expects 8.4 million in '25. Sixteen ships will homeport there this year, including the Star of the Seas from Royal Caribbean.

CCL vs. RCL: Which Cruise Line Stock is the Smarter Buy Right Now?
As consumer appetite for experiential travel continues to rebound, cruise operators like Carnival Corporation & plc CCL and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. RCL are vying for investor attention with strong brand portfolios and improving fundamentals. Both companies are capitalizing on elevated demand and pricing power, setting them up for differences in strategy, innovation, and operational discipline raise the question: which cruise stock stands out more favorably in the current climate?Let's see how these two cruise giants stack up. Carnival is leveraging its global scale and multi-brand strategy to deliver robust yield growth and operational momentum. Carnival recently exceeded its 2026 targets — 50% growth in EBITDA per berth and a 12% return on invested capital — 18 months ahead of schedule. It achieved its highest EBITDA margin in nearly two decades, supported by strong close-in ticket demand, onboard spending, and cost fiscal 2025, Carnival will debut Celebration Key, a flagship private Caribbean destination featuring the world's largest swim-up bar, expansive lagoons, and curated beach experiences. Additional upgrades to Half Moon Cay and Mahogany Bay (to be rebranded Isla Tropicale) further strengthen its 'Paradise Collection' strategy to attract and retain guests. Additionally, Carnival is revamping its fleet through the AIDA Evolution upgrade and moderate newbuild pipeline. It is also launching a new loyalty program — Carnival Rewards — in mid-2026, which ties benefits to overall spend and credit card use. This initiative, modeled after successful airline programs, is expected to boost guest engagement in the upcoming the financial side, Carnival refinanced $7 billion of debt so far in fiscal 2025 and improved its net debt-to-EBITDA ratio sequentially from 4.1x to 3.7x in the fiscal second quarter 2025. With limited new ship deliveries through 2029 and growing free cash flow, Carnival is focused on regaining investment-grade status while delivering long-term shareholder value. Royal Caribbean is executing on its 'Perfecta Performance' strategy by combining premium guest experiences, moderate capacity expansion, and disciplined cost management to drive strong financial growth. In the first quarter of 2025, the company reported yield growth of 5.6% and a 35% EBITDA margin — up 360 basis points year over year — fueled by exceptional close-in demand, pricing power, and elevated onboard spending. The company continues to expand its exclusive destination portfolio with the upcoming Royal Beach Club in Nassau, designed to complement its popular Perfect Day at CocoCay. The club will feature curated beach experiences, elevated dining, and expanded guest capacity, intended to deepen guest engagement and boost ancillary Caribbean's growing digital footprint is another key differentiator. Its mobile app, now widely adopted across the fleet, is driving higher levels of direct booking and pre-cruise purchases. Loyalty program integration and frictionless trip planning are central to the company's efforts to improve revenue capture and increase repeat the company may face near-term pressure related to ship deployment timing and elevated expenses tied to destination rollouts and dry dock activity. Cost growth is expected to vary across quarters, primarily influenced by the scheduling of dry docks, ship deliveries, and the ramp-up of expenses tied to the Costa Maya port acquisition and other destination investments. The second and third quarters are expected to have higher costs, with the third quarter particularly affected, facing a 280-basis-point impact from these timing-related factors. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Carnival's fiscal 2025 sales and earnings per share (EPS) suggests year-over-year increases of 5.4% and 38%, respectively. In the past 60 days, earnings estimates for fiscal 2025 have risen 3.8%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research The Zacks Consensus Estimate for Royal Caribbean's 2025 sales and EPS suggests year-over-year increases of 9.4% and 30.7%, respectively. In the past 60 days, earnings estimates for 2025 have increased 6%. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Carnival stock has rallied 31.7% in the past three months, significantly outpacing its industry and the S&P 500's rise of 15.8% and 10.1%, respectively. Meanwhile, Royal Caribbean shares have risen 42.6% in the same time. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Carnival is trading at a forward 12-month price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 12.92X, below the industry average of 18.59X over the last year. RCL's forward 12-month P/E multiple sits at 17.92X over the same time frame. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Based on short-term price targets offered by 23 analysts, Carnival's average price target represents an increase of 10.7% from the last closing price of $26.17. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Based on short-term price targets offered by 24 analysts, RCL's average price target represents a decline of 7.1% from the last closing price of $295.89. Image Source: Zacks Investment Research Given their contrasting strategies, Carnival presents a more attractive near-term buying opportunity than Royal Caribbean. While RCL continues to deliver premium experiences and superior margins, it faces near-term cost pressures related to destination rollouts and dry dock activity. Carnival, on the other hand, is delivering operational efficiency and financial gains through disciplined execution, fleet upgrades, and destination-led brand differentiation. Its early achievement of long-term margin and sustainability targets, coupled with attractive valuation and rising earnings estimates, highlights a clear edge. With a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy) and momentum on its side, Carnival offers a compelling entry point for investors seeking near-term gains and long-term value. Meanwhile, RCL, carrying a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold), may warrant a wait-and-see approach. You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank (Strong Buy) stocks here. JetBlue to Elevate Customer Experience With Expanded Paisly Offerings
JetBlue Airways Corporation JBLU seems to be gearing up to strengthen its position in the airline industry with the renovation of its products. To this end, JBLU's wholly-owned travel subsidiary and a tech-enabled managed travel services company, Paisly, LLC, announced the expansion of its cruise portfolio with the addition of four cruise line partners: Holland America Line, Cunard, Virgin Voyages, and Oceania Cruises. This move widens Paisly's existing cruise offering and increases its potential to offer loyalty-integrated cruise experiences to its airline partners' customer bases. This initiative of portfolio expansion marks Paisly's growth as a seller of cruises, either standalone or bundled with flights. JetBlue's subsidiary, JetBlue Vacations, powered by Paisly, becomes the first brand to integrate expanded inventory as Paisly scales cruise access for airline partners. Additionally, United Airlines (UAL) is all set to reap the benefits of this expanded cruise portfolio offering through an upcoming collaboration with Paisly, which is scheduled to commence in summer 2026. Paisly's expanding cruise partner roster strengthens its end-to-end travel service strategy. With global cruise passengers totaling 34.6 million in 2024, and the number anticipated to reach 42 million by 2028 (according to industry estimates), cruising stands among the fastest-growing sectors in leisure travel. Given these encouraging numbers, Paisly is all set to add a new cruise partner each month and expand its direct inventory to reach a wider customer base. Jamie Perry, president of Paisly, stated, "Cruising is a category overdue for disruption, and that's exactly what Paisly is delivering. By expanding our cruise offering and integrating it with our personalization engine and loyalty tools, we're enabling JetBlue, and future airline partners, to offer customers an experience that's smarter, simpler, and more rewarding." The expanded cruise offerings by Paisly are giving airlines new tools to personalize, fulfill, and scale travel packages with loyalty perks. We believe such customer-friendly initiatives should boost investor confidence and positively impact JBLU's position as a major tourism partner in all aspects. JBLU currently carries a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Investors interested in the Transportation sector may also consider Copa Holdings CPA and SkyWest, Inc. (SKYW). CPA currently flaunts a Zacks Rank #1 (Strong Buy). You can see the complete list of today's Zacks #1 Rank stocks here. CPA has an expected earnings growth rate of 14.3% for the current year. The company has an impressive earnings surprise history. Its earnings outpaced the Zacks Consensus Estimate in each of the trailing four quarters, delivering an average beat of 5.5%. Shares of CPA have risen 24.2% year to date. SkyWest, founded in 1972, is based in St. George and operates regional jets for major U.S. airlines. SKYW is the holding company for SkyWest Airlines, SkyWest Charter and SkyWest Leasing, an aircraft leasing company. SKYW currently carries a Zacks Rank of 2 (Buy). SKYW has an impressive earnings surprise track record, having surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate in each of the last four quarters. The average beat was 17.1%. The Zacks Consensus Estimate for current and next-year earnings has been revised upward over the past 60 days. Want the latest recommendations from Zacks Investment Research?
