Relay wins and PBs propel Hercules Wimbledon to league success
Hercules Wimbledon AC's senior squad bagged victory in the opening Southern Athletics League Division 2 South & West fixture, largely thanks to their sprinters.
In Portsmouth, the squad accumulated 278 points, outpacing the home team, City of Portsmouth AC, which secured 244 points.
The team now looks forward to their forthcoming home contest on June 22.
Adam Ofeimun had a notable day, achieving personal bests in both the Men's A 100m and 400m races with times of 10.96 and 51.76 seconds, respectively.
Ofeimun was well supported in both events.
Jaleel Roper clinched victory in the B string 200m, finishing in 22.82 seconds, and secured a strong second place in the B 100m with a time of 11.08 seconds.
Under-20 athlete, Javon Blake, was the runner-up in the B 400m, clocking 52.03 seconds.
In the men's relay races, Hercules triumphed in both the 4x100m and 4x400m.
The 4x100m race was won in 42.72 seconds, nearly three seconds ahead of the nearest competitors, while in the 4x400m, they finished five seconds ahead of Havant.
Heather Letley made her mark by winning the Women's A Pole Vault at 1.10m and the B string 400m Hurdles in 1:32.10.
In the latter event, Charlotte Gurney earned maximum points, winning by almost nine seconds from her closest rival with a time of 1:18.21.
Letley also secured second place in the Women's A 100m Hurdles, Women's B 2000m Steeplechase, and third place in the A Triple Jump and B 3000m.
Further victories were recorded in the women's B string long jump, with under-17 Izzy Chimah jumping 4.22m, and the Women's A 3000m, where Chelsea Spanoudakis ran 11:08.69.
Spanoudakis also claimed second place in the Women's A 1500m, mirroring Charlotte Lam's result in the B String.
For the men, victories came from Christer Hagberg in the Men's A Hammer, Ed Charlesworth in the Men's B 3000m Steeplechase, and Charlie Eastaugh in the Men's A 800m.
Beyond Portsmouth, the concluding events of the Surrey County Athletics Championships occurred, with Isabella Harrison dominating the Under-17 Women's 3000m, winning by 38 seconds with a time of 9:47.30.
Rose Evans came fourth in the same race.
Freia Harper-Tee, who won the Under-15 Girls 1500m crown last weekend, came second over 3000m.
James Fraser, in the Under-15 Boys 3000m, secured a bronze medal, running 9:36.50 to finish five seconds ahead of fourth place.
