
BSNL rolls out Anti-Spam for mobile customers; malicious links blocked before delivery
No app to install, no settings to change and if you are a BSNL customer, malicious-link SMS are automatically blocked at delivery, materially reducing the chance of credential theft and payment fraud, an official release said.
Availability: Protection is on by default for all BSNL mobile subscribers in live circles.
Suspicious and phishing URLs in SMS are detected in real time and withheld at the network edge, so spurious links are not delivered to BSNL users, while legitimate OTPs, banking alerts and government messages continue to flow under TRAI's DLT/UCC framework.
The solution was previewed during India Mobile Congress 2024 and is now being extended across BSNL circles as part of ongoing cutovers.
Built with a leading India-based cloud communications platform Tanla, the system combines AI/ML, NLP, reputation intelligence and link expansion to score messages at line-rate, and works in concert with an industry blockchain DLT stack already adopted by Indian telcos to curb unsolicited commercial communication.
The underlying technology has been recognized for 99 per cent plus efficacy against smishing and operates at national scale, with ecosystem integrations (e.g., major web and messaging platforms) to rapidly neutralize new campaigns.
Key highlights of No-Spam Solution: detects over 1.5 million scams daily and Identifies 35,000+ unique fraudulent links and 60,000 scam WhatsApp and mobile numbers monthly.

Government unveils 4-pronged plan to support exports
NEW DELHI: Commerce secretary Sunil Barthwal said on Thursday that government was engaged in talks for a bilateral trade deal with the US, with deliberations taking place at multiple levels, but added that the status of an American delegation visiting India for the next round of bilateral trade talks will be known closer to the scheduled date of August 25. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now There has been uncertainty around the next round of talks after US President Donald Trump announced a 25% tariff on Indian exports from August 7, which will double from August 27 as penalty for government purchasing oil and arms from Russia. While officials said imposition of an additional 25% levy from August 27 will depend on "geo-political developments" over next few days, Barthwal unveiled a four-pronged strategy focused on market diversification for exports and imports, making exports more competitive and strengthening export promotion. A key element of the plan is signing more trade agreements, which will help improve market access, and also seek higher utilisation of concessions available under existing FTAs. Under the India-Australia ECTA, for instance, utilisation of concession is to the tune of 85% at present and Barthwal said the idea is to seek 100% utilisation. He also said the proposed export promotion mission, announced in the budget, will be in place soon and even states were chipping in to improve competitiveness and remove disabilities. The secretary also said government is working on targeting 50 countries, which account for 90% of exports, with focused strategies to diversify the destinations. A similar strategy for imports is also in the works, with agencies, such as Apeda, targeting shipments of farm products to more destinations. The moves, in the works for a few months, were released as a package on Thursday, days after the US slapped India with 25% tariffs. While officials acknowledged that there will be some sectors that will be adversely hit, they sought to play down the overall impact. "Exporters may face some challenges, but they are also looking at possibilities of diversification," an official said.

US company contributes to IIT-K new ward
Kanpur: Co-founders of Opalescent IT Solutions Inc, a US-based company, Manoj Gupta and Neeraj Gupta, contributed funds for an eight-bed ward for economically weaker section patients at the upcoming Gangwal School of Medical Sciences and Technology (GSMST), Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, through the IIT-K Foundation, a US-based non-profit organisation. The contribution has been made as tribute to their father, late MC Gupta, who served as Superintendent at IIT-K from 1961 to 1997 as well as to underscore the family's enduring connection to the institute. Gupta was honoured with the Long and Satisfactory Service Award in 1987. The new ward will be named in memory of the donor's late parents, Rukmani Gupta and MC Gupta. Director of IIT-K Manindra Agrawal stated, "Specific contributions like this will help us build an inclusive medical infrastructure and a resilient future healthcare system. On behalf of the institute, I express our deepest gratitude to the Gupta family for their generous gesture, which is rooted in their deep sense of enduring connection to IIT Kanpur."
