Time of India24-05-2025

AHMEDABAD: Border Security Force shot and killed a Pakistani national attempting to infiltrate the India-Pakistan international border into Banaskantha district, Gujarat, on Friday night.
"Alert
BSF
troops spotted one suspicious person advancing towards the border fence after crossing the international border. The troops challenged the intruder, but he continued to advance, prompting them to open fire. The intruder was neutralised on the spot," the BSF said. It also released a photograph of the dead man.
Forces have been on high alert after Pakistan committed ceasefire violations by cross-border shelling following Operation Sindoor.
In Rajasthan, BSF is maintaining a strong presence along the IB in Jaisalmer. BSF personnel are working to prevent any potential threats from across the border.
"Border Security Force is the first line of defence and is always alert on the border. Around 5-6 years after its formation, the India-Pakistan war took place in 1971, and even then, it proved its usefulness. We were victorious during Kargil war too. When the Pahalgam attack happened on April 22, when they (terrorists) killed our innocent citizens, after that, we were ready to give them a befitting reply. We stood by the decision taken by Govt vof India, and we were prepared so that we could stop any misadventure right there," Yogendra Singh Rathore, DIG, Jaisalmer BSF said.

Allahabad HC grants anticipatory bail to satirist in case about her remarks on Pahalgam attack

The Allahabad High Court on Monday granted interim anticipatory bail to satirist Madri Kakoti in a case related to her remarks on social media about the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, Live Law reported. Justice Rajeev Singh granted relief to Kakoti in the first information report filed against her at the Hasanganj police station based on a complaint by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad leader Jatin Shukla in April. Kakoti, known as Dr Medusa on social media, is an assistant professor in the linguistics department at Lucknow University. In his complaint, Shukla accused Kakoti of targeting India's unity, integrity, and sovereignty through posts on her handle on X. He alleged that Kakoti frequently used terms such as 'saffron terrorists' on her platforms and added that some of her posts had reportedly been shared by Pakistani media channels. Kakoti was subsequently booked for several offences, including endangering the sovereignty, unity and integrity of India, Live Law reported. The terror attack at Baisaran near the town of Pahalgam on April 22 left 26 persons dead and 17 injured. The terrorists targeted tourists after asking their names to ascertain their religion, the police said. All but three of those killed were Hindu. In the aftermath of the attack, several states, including Assam, launched a crackdown on persons making statements that authorities deemed were pro-Pakistan.

Balochistan: BLA claims it killed Pakistan Army-backed leader in IED attack

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a militant group in Pakistan-administered Balochistan, claimed responsibility for a remote-controlled IED attack that killed top members of an alleged Pakistani army-backed killing squad read more Amid the brewing tensions in the region, the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has claimed responsibility for a remote-controlled IED attack that killed Muhammad Ameen, one of the prominent members of an alleged 'Pakistani army-backed killing squad'. On Monday, BLA accused Ameen of taking part in all sorts of military operations, enforced disappearances, and targeted assassinations in the Zamuran region in Balochistan. 'Agent Muhammad Ameen, a prominent agent of the occupying Pakistani army's so-called killing squad, and his son were both neutralised by Baloch Liberation Army fighters. BLA liberation fighters used a remote-controlled IED to assault enemy agent Muhammad Ameen's truck. As a result, he was neutralised alongside his son, Naveed Ameen, and his vehicle was destroyed,' BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said in a statement. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD The BLA maintained that Agent Ameen was personally involved in aiding military aggression in Zamuran and its nearby areas. The BLA also accused the kill squad leader of engaging in enforced disappearances and deliberate killings of young people in the conflict-stricken region. About the Pakistani kill squad According to the statement released by the BLA spokesperson, the so-called killing squad had the freedom to evade the army's regulations and is notorious for circulating drugs in the region. 'The same gang, led by Muhammad Ameen, was directly responsible for the martyrdom of 'BRAS' liberation fighters,' the statement further reads. It is pertinent to note that the attack from the Balochi militant group came days after Pakistan introduced a draconian law that allows Pakistan's military and intelligence agencies to detain individuals, especially Baloch civilians, for up to 90 days without charge. The Counter-Terrorism (Balochistan Amendment) Act 2025, which was passed by the Balochistan Assembly last week, allowed the detention of anyone solely based on suspicion. Shortly after the law was passed in the Balochistan Assembly, legal experts and human rights activists warned that the legislation bypasses judicial safeguards and effectively legalises the atrocities and practices already being committed by the Pakistani security forces in the shadows. Under the Act, Pakistan's Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) can now operate with expanded powers. They can issue detention orders and conduct ideological profiling of the suspects. Not only this, but military officials will now be sitting on the oversight panel, eroding civilians' control over law enforcement. For decades, Baloch civilians have been facing atrocities in the Pakistani-administered regions. This has also led to a rise in militant activities in the province. With inputs from ANI.

2008 Mumbai attacks: Delhi court allows Tahawwur Rana to talk to kin over phone

A Delhi court on Monday allowed jailed 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana to speak to his family members over a phone call. Special Judge Chander Jit Singh allowed Rana the reprieve only one time. The call would be in line with the jail manual and under the supervision of the Tihar Jail authority, the judge said. The court also called for a fresh report on Rana's health within 10 days from Monday. A report from the jail authorities clarifying their stand on whether Rana should be allowed regular phone calls was also directed to be filed by the judge. The 64-year-old Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman is currently in judicial custody. Rana, a close associate of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks main conspirator David Coleman Headley alias Daood Gilani, a US citizen, was brought to India after the US Supreme Court on April 4 dismissed his review plea against his extradition. Advocate Piyush Sachdeva from Delhi Legal Services Authority was appointed to represent Rana. Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and operatives of designated terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HUJI) along with other Pakistan-based co-conspirators, to carry out the three-day terror siege of India's financial capital. On November 26, 2008, a group of 10 Pakistani terrorists went on a rampage, carrying out a coordinated attack on a railway station, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after they sneaked into India's financial capital using the sea route in the Arabian Sea. As many as 166 people were killed in the nearly 60-hour assault.
