In meeting with Donald Trump, Turkey's Erdogan hails Iran-Israel truce

Turkey's Recep Tayyip Erdogan hailed the Iran-Israel ceasefire and urged "close dialogue" to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, as he held talks with US President Donald Trump on the sidelines of a NATO summit late Tuesday. The Turkish president "expressed his satisfaction with the ceasefire achieved between Israel and Iran through President Trump's efforts, hoping it would be permanent," his office said.
In the early hours of Tuesday morning, Trump announced that Iran and Israel had agreed to a staggered ceasefire that would bring about an "official end" to their 11 day conflict.
The move came after the US joined Israel's campaign on Sunday, striking key nuclear sites, prompting a carefully-coordinated Iranian retaliation against a US base in Qatar late Monday -- which appeared to bring the confrontation to a close.
Erdogan also stressed the need for Ankara and Washington to work closely to end the war in Gaza and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The Turkish president "emphasised the importance of close dialogue in ending the humanitarian tragedy in Gaza as soon as possible and in peacefully resolving the Russia-Ukraine war," it said.
Erdogan also called for increased defence industry cooperation with the United States, which he said could significantly boost trade between them.
"Advancing cooperation in the defence industry would facilitate achieving the goal of a $100 billion trade volume," he said.

With Zohran Mamdani as the democratic candidate, he will be up against incumbent mayor Eric Adams and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa. There are chances of Cuomo running being on the ballot for the polls as an independent candidate. However, the former governor is yet to confirm his plans. The general election for the next New York mayor will be held on November 4, 2025.

Iran Executes Three Men Accused Of Spying For Israel A Day After Ceasefire

Iran announced on Wednesday that it has executed three men accused of spying for Israel, just a day after a ceasefire between the two countries came into effect, The Associated Press (AP) reported. According to Iran's judiciary, the men — Idris Ali, Azad Shojai, and Rasoul Ahmad Rasoul — were convicted of attempting to import equipment into the country with the intent to carry out assassinations on behalf of the 'Zionist regime," referring to Israel. 'The sentence was carried out this morning… and they were hanged," the judiciary said in an official statement. The executions took place in Urmia, a city in northwestern Iran near the border with Turkey, AP reported. Authorities also released images of the three men dressed in blue prison uniforms prior to the execution. Tehran has regularly announced arrests and executions of individuals it accuses of spying for foreign intelligence agencies, particularly its arch-rival Israel. Following the Iran-Israel conflict that erupted on June 13, Iranian officials had vowed to expedite trials for those suspected of collaborating with Israeli intelligence. Gold price today: MCX gold rate rises above ₹97,000 as US dollar, Treasury yields slip; Israel-Iran ceasefire eyed
Gold price opened higher on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) on Wednesday, stabilising after a sharp slump in the previous session, as investors monitored the fragile truce between Israel and Iran. MCX gold rate opened 0.29% higher at ₹ 97,311 per 10 grams as against its previous close of ₹ 97,023. MCX silver prices also opened 0.22% higher at ₹ 1,06,341 per kg, as compared to its previous close of ₹ 1,06,102. At 9:10 AM, MCX gold price was trading higher by ₹ 277, or 0.29%, at ₹ 97,300 per gram. MCX silver rate was up by ₹ 299, or 0.28%, at ₹ 1,05,216 per kg. In the global markets, gold prices firmed as the US dollar and Treasury yields retreated. Spot gold price rose 0.2% to $3,328.89 per ounce, after hitting a more than two-week low on Tuesday. US gold futures gained 0.3% to $3,343.00. Spot silver was steady at $35.90 per ounce. The Israel-Iran ceasefire on Tuesday signalled that the air war between them had ended, at least for now, denting safe-have demand for the yellow metal. MCX gold price crashed by 2.41%, or by ₹ 2,394, in the previous session to fall below ₹ 97,000 level. Gains in gold price today were supported by a weak US dollar index, which hovered near a one-week low, making bullion more attractive for other currency holders. The benchmark 10-year Treasury yields remained near a more than one-month low. Meanwhile, US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, in his testimony to the members of Congress, said that higher tariffs could begin raising inflation this summer, a period that will be key to the Fed's consideration of possible rate cuts, Reuters reported. Fed funds futures traders are now pricing in 60 basis points of rate cuts for 2025, with the first move expected to come in September. Rahul Kalantri, VP Commodities, Mehta Equities Ltd. said that gold price has support at $3,300-3,277 levels, while resistance is seen at $3,348-3,365. Silver has support at $35.50-35.20, while resistance is at $36.30-36.55. 'MCX gold price has support at ₹ 96,450 - 95,910 levels, while resistance at ₹ 97,650 - 98,100. Silver price has support at ₹ 104,280 - 103,600, while resistance at ₹ 1,05.850 - 1,06,500,' Kalantri said.
