2026 four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews announces commitment date

USA Today16-07-2025
2026 four star wide receiver Jase Mathews will make his commitment on August 8th.
All the attention this week is in Atlanta with SEC Media Days. The Auburn Tigers received some news on the 2026 recruiting front on Monday when 2026 four-star wide receiver Jase Mathews announced when he would make his commitment. Hayes Fawcett of Rivals posted that Mathews would make the announcement on August 8th. He recently named his top four teams with Auburn being on that list. The other teams in the final four are LSU, Texas A&M, and Ole Miss.
Mathews is from Leakesville, Mississippi where he attends Greene County High School. He is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 9 player in Mississippi and No. 27 nationally at wide receiver. Marcus Davis and Derrick Nix are both handling the recruitment of Mathews. Ole Miss is still the favorite to land Mathews according to Rivals. They are currently at 35.7% with Auburn following at 23.5%.
Mathews is the type of player who possesses the talent to make an impact on whichever team he decides to play for. As a junior, he caught 68 passes for 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns. Showing that he is a great athlete, Thomas also plays basketball and runs track.
It has been well documented with the struggles Auburn has had in recruiting for the 2026 class. The Tigers are last in the SEC and only have nine commitments. Success in the regular season can change the Tigers' fortunes in recruiting. A commitment from Mathews could help bolster the class, and give the Tigers some much needed momentum.

Texas A&M is reportedly trailing one team in pursuit of 2026 4-star WR

Texas A&M's 2026 recruiting class features three of the top wide receiver prospects in the 2026 cycle, as four-star Aaron Gregory, Madden Williams, and Mike Brown have all shut down their recruitment and are expected to seal the deal with the program during Early Signing Day on December 4. However, head coach Mike Elko, OC Collin Klein, and WR coach Holmon Wiggins are looking to land one more elite pass catcher next month. After missing out on four-star wide receiver Ethan "Boobie" Feaster, who committed to USC earlier this month, Elko and his staff are eyeing the top route runner in the class, as four-star Mississippi native Jace Mathews will anounce his commitment on August 8, and has narrowed his list to Auburn, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M. Mathews has taken official visits to all four finalists, but it's been unclear who is truly leading heading into next month. On Friday, 247Sports recruiting insider Tom Loy (Subscription Required) provided more clarity, stating that Auburn, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, and LSU, in that order, are where things stand from an "optimism" standpoint. "After that, Texas A&M seems to have some optimism as well. Not nearly to the level of Auburn, but they are up there. They have done a great job of showing him what a future looks like in College Station, and that has resonated well with him and his family. Coach Wiggins does a tremendous job recruiting the receiver position, and he is very difficult to beat." While Texas A&M is reportedly 1B to Auburn's 1A, 2026 5-star WR Tristen Keys, who is currently committed to LSU, is a candidate to flip to either A&M or Tennessee, which could shake up Mathew's final decision, and if Mathews commits to Auburn, I'd expect Elko and Wiggins to go hard after Keys this fall, especially if Mathews shuts down his recruitment. Still, the Aggies are in a good spot heading into his commitment, and still have a solid chance at pulling off another surprise commitment and solidifying the program's future wide receiver rotation that already looks borderline elite on paper. During his 2024 junior season, Mathews reeled in 1,138 yards and 15 touchdowns, and will more than likely play in the slot at the next level. According to 247Sports, Mathews is currently positioned as the 191st-ranked prospect in the 2026 cycle, the 27th-ranked wide receiver, and the 9th-ranked prospect in Mississippi. '22 MPH at 260 pounds': Former Cowboys' 2nd-round pick on fast track to return from injury

Cowboys DE Sam Williams is making waves in his return from injury, claiming he feels stronger and faster than ever heading into camp. Around this time a year ago, Sam Williams, was getting carted off the practice field just a few days into the Dallas Cowboys' 2024 training camp. Williams had suffered a torn ACL and PCL, and just like that, his season was over before it began. Since then, the former 2022 second-round pick has gone through surgery, rehabilitation, and is now back on the field in preparation for the 2025 season. Now entering his fourth year, and the final of his rookie deal, Williams noted to reporters that he is feeling as strong as ever and more explosive. 'I've put in the work, I feel great. Fantastic. No soreness. No aches,' Williams said after Thursday's practice. 'I'm running. I'm hitting 22 miles per hour at 260 pounds. That should tell you everything.' The former Ole Miss Rebel, who had high hopes going into last year's camp, recorded 48 tackles, 15 for loss, 8.5 sacks, and 21 pressures during his first two seasons before injury. Williams will now retake the field looking to add more fuel to a Cowboys' defense that saw a drop-off in production last season compared to the year prior. His physical tools and speed off the edge have been a key aspect of his game. However, with his return comes competition for repetitions. The Cowboys carry a deep rotation of edge rushers that features All-Pro Micah Parsons, veteran free agents Dante Fowler Jr. and Payton Turner, second-year edge rusher Marshawn Kneeland, and to top it off, Dallas used its second-round pick this season on another rusher, Donovan Ezeiruaku. Former Auburn receiver Seth Williams signs with the Las Vegas Raiders

Former Auburn wide receiver Seth Williams is returning to the National Football League. Multiple sources reported on Tuesday that Williams will sign with the Las Vegas Raiders just as teams are opening training camps. It will be his first time back in the NFL since 2024 when he was part of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad. The team released Williams in the summer before the 2025 season. Williams was a mid-season addition in May to the DC Defenders of the United Football League. In two regular season games, he caught eight passes for 63 yards and one touchdown. He saved his best for the 2025 UFL Playoffs. In the two games, he caught three passes for 107 yards and one touchdown. In the XFL Conference Championship, he caught two passes for 61 yards and a touchdown. In the UFL Championship, Williams just caught one pass for 46 yards in the Defenders 58-34 win. Williams ranks fourth all-time at Auburn with 2.124 receiving yards during his three seasons on the plains from 2018 to 2020. He is also fourth all-time in receiving touchdowns with 17. His best season for the Tigers was his sophomore season in 2019. That season he caught 59 yards for 830 yards and eight touchdowns. His production dropped during his final season in 2020, but that season also had less games. Williams would be drafted by Denver Broncos in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He only played two games for the Broncos in 2021. He caught one pass for 34 yards. He then would spend time on the Jacksonville Jaguars practice squad for 2022 and 2023. Time will tell if his time in the UFL with the DC Defenders will translate to better production and a longer stay in the NFL this time around.
