King Charles's Body Language Spoke Volumes During His Visit to Canada

Yahoo27-05-2025

King Charles and Queen Camilla have officially touched down in Ottawa, Canada, marking His Majesty's first visit to the nation after his coronation.
The royal couple received a warm welcome from the local community and have since met with Prime Minister Mark Carney and his wife, Diana Fox Carney. Buckingham Palace also took to Instagram to share memorable moments, including their visit to Lansdowne Park and Rideau Hall. As you'd expect, the king was in high spirits, but according to body language expert Darren Stanton, there was more to the monarch's nonverbal gestures than met the eye.

Speaking on behalf of Betfair Slots, Stanton revealed that King Charles looked powerful and determined when he arrived yesterday. He explained, "It was clear from the crowds and the reaction of the public that everyone was elated over Charles and Camilla arriving. Charles also seemed really pleased to be visiting. His posture was upright, straight, and he wasn't slouching, showing that he was completely engaged in taking it all in."
He continued, "In terms of his facial expressions, Charles seemed genuinely happy to be there—there weren't any signs of a fake or masking smile. The emotions, from a microexpression point of view, were very genuine. He certainly looked powerful while taking on the event. He's got that strong determination that his mother had."
The expert also called out a key gesture that spoke volumes about the king's relationship with Carney when they greeted each other.

"Looking at the pictures of Charles and Canada's Prime Minister Mark Carney, the feelings were very much reciprocated by him," Stanton said. "There is clearly a real, deep mutual respect between these two men. When you look at their handshake, it's a really good, firm grip. I also noticed that Carney put both of his hands over Charles' at one point, which is referred to as a double handshake. This shows that he has the utmost respect for the King."
"Overall, Charles appeared in really good spirits. It was all very positive, with great postures and eye contact. Both him and the Queen seem really strong in their character and general demeanor."
Today, the king is set to make history by delivering the Speech from the Throne at the opening of parliament. This will be the first time in nearly five decades that Canada's head of state gives the throne speech. (The last time this occurred was in October 1977, when Elizabeth II delivered it for the second time.)
Regarding the king's visit, Carney said in a statement that it "clearly underscores the sovereignty of our country," adding that His Majesty's speech is "a historic honour that matches the weight of our times."

Brittany Renner confirms her divorce to Kevin Gates. ‘I followed my heart'

Brittany Renner said she followed her heart and is getting divorced. (Warning: The below link contains language some may find offensive.) In a recent radio interview with REAL 92.3 LA, the 33-year-old 'Basketball Wives' star revealed that she and her husband, rapper Kevin Gates, are officially going their separate ways. 'We got married April 6 and divorced May 28,' Renner said in the interview, which aired June 7. The social media star says the couple must now enter a 90-day waiting period. The waiting period, known as iddah in Islam, is meant to ensure that a woman is not pregnant. Renner converted to Islam in August 2024, per Complex. 'And then also in those 90 days it's for reconciliation, because Allah wants you to stay married,' Renner explained. 'During those 90 days, you are not to entertain anybody romantically.' Renner and Gates, who converted to Islam in 2016, went Instagram official in April, according to E! News. The couple sparked engagement rumors the following month after Renner appeared at the season 12 premiere of 'Basketball Wives,' which aired May 5, with a ring on her ring finger. Renner later referred to Gates as her husband in a since-deleted Instagram post May 4, per E! News. 'You don't fit on this show and that's why you're a fit for this show,' Brittany wrote in the caption. 'Last night at the #BasketballWives Season 12 premiere party with my huzband.' Renner says she's looking forward to a 'nice 90-day reset' With her 52-day marriage in the rear-view mirror, Renner says she now wants to focus on herself. 'I followed my heart,' she said in her interview with REAL 92.3 LA. 'And that's more than what most people can say in this world.' She goes on to add that she doesn't view the divorce as a bad situation and is ready to move on. 'I don't think anybody gets married to not stay married. So, I think my biggest thing for me is just a nice 90 day reset. Focusing on myself and pouring into myself,' she explained. She said 'what is meant to be is always gonna be.' The divorce comes roughly one month after Renner gushed about Gates in an interview with People. 'I'm with the person that I quite literally dreamed of,' she said in the interview, published May 5. 'And to be able to just wake up next to him and spend time with him, even to have him here behind me, it's like so surreal,' she added. 'He's just the most beautiful person inside and out that I've ever met.' At the time, Renner said that the couple weren't concerned about what the future holds. 'I think that's where people get a little lost,' she told People. 'Like, we gotta stay present and I feel like when we get too far ahead, we don't live in the now and have fun in the now and pour in each other into each other in the now,' she continued. The pair don't share any children together, but Renner does have a 4-year-old son, P.J. Washington III, with NBA player P.J. Washington.

Michigan ranks 33rd for child well-being in annual report with education among the nation's worst

Maskot/Getty Images Michigan ranked 33rd for overall child well-being in the Annie E. Casey Foundation's annual Kids Count Data Book, lagging in education and economic well-being, amongst other areas. This is the 36th year the Annie E. Casey Foundation, a private charitable organization examining children's welfare, has released its Kids Count Data Book which ranks states' care for youth through education, health, family and community, and economic wellbeing. Historically, Michigan has particularly dragged in its education ranking, with the 2025 ranking sitting at 44th in the nation. Michigan worsened in the number of children ages 3 and 4 not attending school than in previous years. When it came to benchmark testing, the data book found that the number of eighth graders not testing proficient in math and fourth graders not testing proficient in reading worsened than in previous years as well. 'Education has consistently been our lowest ranking domain among the four key domains that the Annie E. Casey Foundation evaluates, pointing to the continued, urgent need for our state leaders to do more to support Michigan students,' said Monique Stanton, President and CEO of the Michigan League for Public Policy in a news release Monday. Pushing for a school funding solution in Michigan continues to be a top priority for the league, which acts as the state's member organization of the Kids Count network, Stanton said. Michigan has worked to improve school access and outcomes, notably through securing universal school meals and investments in school mental health resources. But with federal threats on education looming, namely the Trump administration's interest in gutting the U.S. Department of Education, Stanton said it's important to point out the federal decisions that would harm students and advocate for policies that set kids up for educational success. Aecf-2025kidscountdatabook 'Speaking out against federal threats to education is also vital to ensuring our schools stay strong and are able to meet the needs of every student that walks through their doors,' Stanton said. 'Dismantling the U.S. Department of Education would remove protections for thousands of students in Michigan, especially those from low-income households and those receiving special education services.' The state's best ranking has historically been in health, ranking this year at 22nd. Michigan's health ranking, the only sector where Michigan placed in the top half of states, is largely attributed to the large portion of the state's children who have access to health insurance, the league's news release said. But just as stakeholders have raised concerns with President Donald Trump's plans for education, alarm bells are sounding off for a federal spending plan that would cut hundreds of billions of dollars from Medicaid. More than 1 in 4 Michiganders is covered by Medicaid each month, including more than 1 million children, according to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. While there are areas where Michigan has made improvements, there continue to be sectors of children's well-being that demand attention and resources, Stanton said. These needs would be best addressed with the collaboration of state and federal policymakers to ensure Michigan's kids have opportunities to grow up healthy and prepared for their futures. 'We know what kids need to grow up healthy and connected so they can thrive as adults: Stable homes, strong schools, nutritious food, meaningful relationships and opportunities to learn, play and grow. Programs that meet these needs are smart investments, fostering long-term gains like employment and economic growth,' Stanton said. 'We encourage Michigan leaders and lawmakers alike to use both the national KIDS COUNT data and the state data we will be releasing later this year in informing smart policy and budget decisions that prioritize the well-being and futures of our state's youngest residents.'
