1,300 motorcycles inspected in police crackdown on illegal street racing
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,300 motorcycles were inspected during Op Samseng Jalanan conducted by the police across several hotspots in the federal capital last night.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the operation aimed to reduce road accidents and address complaints from hotel owners about noisy motorcycles disturbing their guests at night.
The operation, which began at 9pm, covered several areas including Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Bukit Bintang and the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE).
"We detected various offences including illegal modifications, riding without a licence, and expired road tax.
"Some riders even attempted to flee by riding against traffic to avoid the roadblocks," he said, adding that such actions could embarrass the country, especially with the Asean Summit approaching.
The overnight operation ended at 4.30am with the police issuing 1,006 summonses, while the Road Transport Department which joined the operation, issued 206.
A total of 55 motorcycles and one car were also seized.
Checks at the roadblock in Jalan Ampang showed several riders attempting to escape inspection by riding against traffic, but they were swiftly intercepted by motorcycle patrol units.

JPJ open IP against lorry company in FRU fatal crash
KOTA BHARU — The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has opened an investigation paper against the lorry company involved in the fatal accident which took the lives of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) personnel in Teluk Intan, Perak, last month. JPJ senior director (enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan said the investigation was being conducted under Section 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010. 'JPJ has seized the lorry involved, and the investigating officer has been instructed to complete the investigation paper by the end of this month. 'Once completed, the investigation paper will be submitted to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further action,' he told reporters after observing the Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha here last night. He said the initial investigation found that there was a violation of permit conditions involving the lorry company. 'The lorry company was found to have violated the permit conditions by carrying an unauthorised load, namely stones, while the permit approved was to transport coal. 'We are still investigating the case and appropriate action will be taken,' he said. On May 12, a lorry driven by a man collided with a truck carrying 18 FRU members on Jalan Chikus–Sungai Lampan, Teluk Intan, while they were on their way back to Ipoh.
