Three detained, 11 motorcycles seized in Miri's ‘Op Samseng Jalanan'

Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement today, said the operation was conducted between 11pm and 3am by a team of traffic police from the Miri District Police Headquarters. The offences including expired vehicle licences, driving without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts, missing side mirrors, missing or fancy registration numbers, failure to display the 'P' (probationary) plate, and faulty motorcycle brakes. 'Three local men, aged 16, 21 and 25, were inspected and detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. 'If convicted, all suspects will be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a minimum fine of RM5,000 up to RM10,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence,' ACP Mohd Farhan said in the statement. Additionally, 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act for documentation purposes. ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public to report any street racing or road hooliganism by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan at 018-952 9957 or 085-430 479, or by visiting the nearest police station. He added that such operations will continue periodically, advising road users—especially motorcyclists—to ride responsibly and avoid illegal street racing, modifying their vehicles, and not gather by the roadside in a manner that causes traffic congestion or create noise disturbances that disrupt public peace as negligence will pose a danger to themselves and other road users.

789 traffic police personnel mobilised for ASEAN Summit
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 789 personnel from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) will be mobilised to ensure smooth traffic flow during the ASEAN Summit and related meetings in the federal capital from Friday until May 28. Bukit Aman JSPT director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said they comprised 292 personnel from the Kuala Lumpur contingent, while the remaining 497 are from other contingents. 'The operation will involve 36 patrol vehicles, 313 high-powered motorcycles and 190 additional motorcycles, as well as tow trucks to clear obstructing vehicles from the roads. 'As road closures will take effect from May 23, the public is advised to stay updated through the media, plan their journeys, use alternative routes and opt for public transport,' he told reporters after delivering a briefing to JSPT personnel at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre today. Mohd Yusri said a dry-run would be conducted on May 21 and 22, involving motorcade movements, route security, location control and other duties. 'These on-ground rehearsals will provide early notice to road users regarding the upcoming road closures,' he said. He added that enforcement operations, including Op Samseng Jalanan, would continue around the city centre to ensure users adhere to traffic regulations.

Traffic police mobilised as Kuala Lumpur gears up for Asean Summit
KUALA LUMPUR: Hundreds of police personnel, including 313 traffic outriders, will be deployed to escort dignitaries and manage traffic ahead of the 46th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur from May 23 to May 28. Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said that in addition to motorcycle police escorts, 34 patrol cars or multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and 190 motorcycles would also be deployed. "It involves a total of 789 traffic personnel, all of whom will remain on standby throughout the summit," said Yusri at a press conference following the 46th Asean Summit Human Resource Personnel Briefing Ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Police Training Centre (Pulapol) today. "Of that number, 647 are personnel from other state contingents who reported for duty starting today," he added. Yusri said all personnel on duty would undergo a full rehearsal on May 21 and 22, covering escort formations, route control, and site security. "Enforcement operations will also be carried out around the capital to ensure the designated routes are kept clear. "Any traffic or parking obstructions will be dealt with by towing, in addition to continuous operations under Op Samseng Jalanan and motorcycle enforcement," he said. He added that commercial and heavy vehicles would also be barred from entering the city centre during peak hours. "Heavy vehicles are prohibited from entering the city centre starting today, from 6.30am to 7.30am, and 4.30pm to 7.30pm. "Enforcement action will be taken against road users who defy the rules or commit offences during this period," he said. The 2025 Asean Summit will take place at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on May 26 and May 27. The gathering is expected to draw around 20,000 participants, including heads of state, delegates, and officials from member nations, along with dialogue partners such as China and the Gulf countries.

1,300 motorcycles inspected in police crackdown on illegal street racing
KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 1,300 motorcycles were inspected during Op Samseng Jalanan conducted by the police across several hotspots in the federal capital last night. Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the operation aimed to reduce road accidents and address complaints from hotel owners about noisy motorcycles disturbing their guests at night. The operation, which began at 9pm, covered several areas including Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Raja Laut, Jalan P. Ramlee, Jalan Bukit Bintang and the Duta-Ulu Klang Expressway (DUKE). "We detected various offences including illegal modifications, riding without a licence, and expired road tax. "Some riders even attempted to flee by riding against traffic to avoid the roadblocks," he said, adding that such actions could embarrass the country, especially with the Asean Summit approaching. The overnight operation ended at 4.30am with the police issuing 1,006 summonses, while the Road Transport Department which joined the operation, issued 206. A total of 55 motorcycles and one car were also seized. Checks at the roadblock in Jalan Ampang showed several riders attempting to escape inspection by riding against traffic, but they were swiftly intercepted by motorcycle patrol units.
