MIRI (June 2): Eleven motorcycles were seized and three local men detained during Op Samseng Jalanan, a road safety operation carried out around Miri city and along Jalan Miri Bypass on May 31.
Miri District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, in a statement today, said the operation was conducted between 11pm and 3am by a team of traffic police from the Miri District Police Headquarters.
The offences including expired vehicle licences, driving without a licence, structural modifications, modified exhausts, missing side mirrors, missing or fancy registration numbers, failure to display the 'P' (probationary) plate, and faulty motorcycle brakes.
'Three local men, aged 16, 21 and 25, were inspected and detained on suspicion of committing offences under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
'If convicted, all suspects will be charged under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum penalty of five years' imprisonment, a minimum fine of RM5,000 up to RM10,000, and disqualification from holding a driving licence,' ACP Mohd Farhan said in the statement.
Additionally, 11 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act for documentation purposes.
ACP Mohd Farhan urged the public to report any street racing or road hooliganism by contacting Traffic Investigation Officer Inspector Mohammad Amiruddin Hamdan at 018-952 9957 or 085-430 479, or by visiting the nearest police station.
He added that such operations will continue periodically, advising road users—especially motorcyclists—to ride responsibly and avoid illegal street racing, modifying their vehicles, and not gather by the roadside in a manner that causes traffic congestion or create noise disturbances that disrupt public peace as negligence will pose a danger to themselves and other road users.

Man injured after being rammed by car at burger stall
KUALA LUMPUR: A 39-year-old man was injured when a car crashed into him while he eating at a burger stall on Sunday evening. The incident, which occurred at 7pm in Section 17, Shah Alam, involved a Proton Wira driven by a 55-year-old man. Shah Alam district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the driver lost control of the vehicle, hit a road divider and ploughed into the victim, who was seated at a table at the stall. Foreigners who rammed police roadblock held

TAWAU: Five foreigners who rammed a police roadblock while attempting to flee at the Megah Industrial Zone at 8pm were arrested after a 45km high-speed chase last Wednesday. District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects, aged between 29 and 43, included the male driver, two male passengers, and two female passengers. 'The vehicle was ordered to stop by a team from the Police Patrol Car Unit (MPV) and Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB), who were conducting a roadblock operation. 'However, the driver defied police instructions and attempted to escape by crashing through the checkpoint, prompting our officers to pursue them,' he said. The chase continued through several main roads including Jalan Timur, Kem Pengakap Tiku, Jalan Bunga Raya, Jalan Chong Thien Vun, and Jalan Apas, before it was eventually stopped at Batu 12, Jalan Apas. Upon inspection, police found none of the occupants, including the driver, could produce any identification. The driver did not possess a valid driving licence or road tax. The case is being investigated under Section 26(2) of the Police Act 1967 for fleeing a police checkpoint and Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties. Investigations are also being carried out under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for unlawful entry and stay in the country without valid identification or travel documents. The driver is also being investigated under Section 26 and Section 23 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving without a valid licence and road tax. ACP Jasmin said none of the police personnel were injured and that the authorities view such incidents very seriously. Biker, 25, killed in four-vehicle crash near Tangkak
TANGKAK: A 25-year-old man was killed in a four-vehicle crash at KM12, Lebuh AMJ Kesang, Sungai Mati, near here on Monday (June 2). Tangkak police chief Supt Roslan Mohd Talib said police received a report of the accident at about 2.12am. "Initial investigations found that the accident occurred when a motorcyclist, who was on his way from Melaka to Muar, is believed to have lost control of his machine before crashing into the rear of a pick-up truck parked on the road shoulder. "The motorcyclist fell and was then hit by a sedan car coming from behind. At the same time, a sports utility vehicle (SUV), also coming from the same direction, crashed into the victim's motorcycle that was on the road," he said in a statement Monday. The victim died at the scene and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving. Those with information regarding the incident have been urged to contact investigating officer Insp Khairul Azmi Ibrahim at 011-12445836.
