NIA raids two Gkp locations, village ex-head detained

Hindustan Times2 days ago

A four-member team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) from Lucknow raided two locations in Gorakhpur district early on Saturday morning in connection with a money laundering case. The team detained Munni Lal Yadav, a former village head and the elder brother of Thailand-based trader Panne Lal Yadav, for questioning.
Under the supervision of NIA officer Rajesh Kumar Pandey, the team first raided the ancestral home of Panne Lal Yadav in a village under the jurisdiction of Khajni Police Station. Munni Lal Yadav was taken into custody from the residence.
The second raid was conducted at a double-storey building near Azad Chowk, also linked to the Yadav family.
The six-hour-long operation involved thorough searches and interrogations of family members. During the raids, the NIA seized laptops and several important documents. Personnel from Khajni Police Station were present throughout the operation to assist the NIA team.
Following the raid, Deepak Yadav, nephew of Panne Lal Yadav, alleged that NIA officials misbehaved with his sister and elderly mother. However, sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), Rajesh Pratap Singh and Khajni Police Station officials denied any misconduct.
Although the NIA has not officially disclosed the reason for the raids, sources indicate that the name and account number of Panne Lal Yadav surfaced during an investigation into a money-laundering case. Suspicious financial transactions led the agency to carry out the raids for further investigation.
Shwani, niece of Panne Lal Yadav, stated that her uncle has been living in Thailand for the past 30 years, where he is engaged in business.

Sleuths of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Monday questioned the owner of a Kolkata-based travel agency in connection with a Pakistan espionage case, an official said. 75-year-old woman loses Rs 21 Lakh in ‘digital arrest'

Rajkot: An elderly woman in Kutch became the victim of 'digital arrest' fraud, losing Rs 21 lakh to scammers who impersonated cops and even staged a fake Supreme Court video call. She was, however, saved from further financial loss after her Dubai-based daughter sensed something was amiss and alerted the police. The victim, 75-year-old Vimla Dedhia, was digitally confined to her home in Moti Bhujpar village of Mundra taluka for nearly six days by the fraudsters, who orchestrated an elaborate deception. One of them even appeared on a video call dressed as a Supreme Court judge, seated against a backdrop mimicking the apex court. She was allowed to go to the bank but under surveillance. Dedhia was falsely accused of laundering Rs 35 crore through a bank account allegedly linked to her name. The callers threatened her with arrest, legal consequences, and harm her family if she disclosed the situation. Intimidated, she did not reveal anything even to her 47-year-old daughter, who remained in touch with her over the phone throughout. However, from the conversations, her daughter sensed something wrong and told her friends in Gujarat who alerted the Mundra police. Cops reached Dedhia's home and revealed that she was a victim of cyber fraud . by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Esse novo alarme com câmera é quase gratuito em São Paulo (consulte o preço) Alarmes Undo The scam began on May 10, when Dedhia received a voice message from a number claiming to be from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The message alleged that a SIM card registered in her name had been misused and would be deactivated within two hours. She was asked to press '9' to know more. When she complied, she was connected to a man claiming to be from Mumbai, who alleged that her mobile number was linked to a fake bank account in Canara Bank used for money laundering. The next day, she received a video call from a person identifying himself as Rahul Yadav from the Mumbai Crime Branch, linking her to a Rs 35 crore scam. The scammers further alleged that she had used the SIM card to speak with a person named Naresh Goyal — supposedly the victim — for 45 minutes. To avoid arrest, they said, she would be placed under 'digital house arrest.' They sent her a fake arrest warrant and staged a video call with a man dressed as a judge who claimed to represent the SC. Fearing legal trouble, Dedhia shared all details of her and her husband's bank accounts and fixed deposits. The fraudsters sent her fake court documents and instructed her to transfer funds for "case settlement." She ended up transferring Rs 21 lakh. The scammers monitored her movements through continuous video calls, even when she visited the bank. Dedhia also has a son who stays in Himachal Pradesh and a daughter in Dubai. A complaint has been filed at the Cyber Police Station (Border Range), under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the IT Act.

Court reserves order on bail pleas of 5

Vadodara: The magisterial court in Dahod on Monday reserved its verdict on the bail pleas of five accused, all govt officers, in the Rs 71 crore National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) scam exposed in Dahod. The court heard the applications of former Devgadhbaria taluka development officer (TDO) Darshan Patel, account officers Jayvir Nagori and Mahipal Chauhan, and gram rozgar sevaks (GRSs) Mangal Pateliya and Fulsinh Bariya. The state govt appointed Ahmedabad-based lawyer Amit Nair as the special public prosecutor in this case. Nair argued there was adequate evidence against the five that suggested their proactive role in the scam and causing big losses to the exchequer. In a related development, the investigation officer filed an application seeking cancellation of bail granted to Balwant and Kiran, the two sons of Gujarat's minister for agriculture and panchayat Bachu Khabad. Balwant and Kiran were granted bail, but the former was arrested again on Sunday in another FIR lodged against him. Kiran was arrested on Thursday as soon as he was released on bail. Both are presently in police custody.
