TV personality Katie Couric slams Lauren Sanchez's wedding style as ‘tacky' in scathing post
She was not impressed by the dress.
US TV personality Katie Couric has slammed fellow journalist Lauren Sanchez's wedding style, bashing her gown and her hair in a scathing social media post.
'Welcome to the eighties — when big hair and conspicuous consumption ruled. Apparently tacky is back,' she penned.
The former US Today show host left the rude remark on Jack Schlossberg's Instagram post on Friday, the day Sanchez married Jeff Bezos in a lavish ceremony in Venice, Italy.
Mr Schlossberg, the son of Caroline Kennedy, reposted Sanchez's Vogue cover — where the former journalist donned her long-sleeved, corsetted Dolce & Gabbana lace gown that took some 900 hours to make — with the caption, 'Like I said … vogue.'
Couric wasted no time in jumping on the bandwagon, and an hour later, left the 'tacky' comment, to which Schlossberg replied, 'Let's bring back scrunchies,' a reference to the '80s hair accessory famously roasted on Sex and the City.
Others joined in on the attack, adding comments such as 'Spot on. Money can't buy you class' and 'Imagine being married to the one of richest men on the planet and still choosing a dress that's ugly as f**k.'
Some did defend the new bride's looks, however, and called for an end to the mean girl comments.
'I think she looks gorgeous, the dress is stunning and a surprise. Everyone leave her alone. Let her be happy,' one said.
'If the dress made her feel good on her day that's a beautiful thing,' another added.
Others turned on Couric and her unnecessarily rude comment.
'I'm reading that many women say Lauren Sánchez Bezos lacks 'class.' Those same critics also lack 'class,' because an educated, intelligent, respectful, or rather, classy person doesn't go around criticising or making fun of other people,' one scolded.
Another pointed out that Couric may be lashing out because she feels slighted since she didn't make the wedding's star-studded guest list.
'I'm guessing you aren't invited, Katie lol,' they quipped.

Stars revealed to perform at Bezos' big wedding after-party
A major music star is set to headline the final celebration for Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez's lavish wedding weekend in Venice, Italy, capping off days of festivities with a high-energy dance party. The couple, who tied the knot in a black-tie ceremony on Friday, June 27, have lined up Usher and DJ Cassidy to perform at their last big bash on Saturday night, June 28, according to a source speaking to People Magazine. 'It's the culmination, the final big party,' the source told People, noting that the newlyweds wanted a night centred around music to send off their guests after a packed week of celebrations. It's the culmination, the final big party,' the source said. 'First night was dinner, second was the ceremony with Andrea Bocelli's son performing, and tonight's the full-on dance floor.' Cassidy, known for his star-studded party sets, has previously performed at events for Oprah, Kris Jenner, and Kourtney Kardashian, making him a favourite for the couple. Usher, another close friend, will also take the stage for the night's entertainment. The wedding festivities have drawn a who's who of celebrity guests, including Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Tom Brady. Despite concerns from some locals about disruptions, a source told People Magazine that Venice 'is still running as normal' even with the influx of high-profile visitors. 'Those who protest are in contradiction with the history of Venice, which is a history of relations, contacts and business,' the city's mayor Luigi Brugnaro told Reuters in an interview. 'Bezos embodies the Venetian mentality, he is more Venetian than the protesters,' said the mayor, adding that he hoped Bezos, who donated 3 million euros ($A5.4 million) to local institutions, would return to the city to do business. Brugnaro said Bezos had attached no conditions to holding his wedding celebrations in Venice, and City Hall had only learned about his donations after they had already been made. Aussie star Pia Whitesell's link to Jeff Bezos' much talked about wedding to Lauren Sanchez
Jeff Bezos and his new wife Lauren Sanchez may be sailing off into the Italian sunset following their extravagant nuptials in Venice this weekend. But it wasn't always smooth sailing in their relationship, with an Aussie actress later finding herself in the tangled web. In 2019, it was exposed by US tabloid newspaper National Enquirer that the Amazon founder had been having an eight-month affair with former news anchor Sanchez. The news effectively ended their respective marriages: Bezos' 25-year marriage to novelist MacKenzie Scott, and Sanchez' 14-year marriage to Hollywood talent agent Patrick Whitesell. But don't feel too bad for the dejected spouses: Scott walked away with $US38 billion ($58 billion) worth of Amazon stock and Whitesell still had his cushy net worth of $US450 million ($690 million). Then, months after his divorce from Sanchez, who is the mother of his two children, 60-year-old Whitesell found love again with former Home and Away star, Pia Miller, 41. Unlike the hoopla in Venice for the Bezos-Sanchez wedding, Whitesell married Pia in a secret ceremony in 2021, and thus she became Pia Whitesell. The actress, who affectionately hashtags their couple posts 'PW2', has since moved into the Hollywood exec's sprawling $57 million mansion in Los Angeles along with her two sons from previous relationships: Isaiah, 22, and Lennox, 18. The couple enjoy the quiet life away from spotlight and live in complete contrast to the Bezos, 61, and Sanchez, 55. Even this weekend, when the newlyweds were living large in Venice, Whitesell and Pia enjoyed casual lunches and dinners with friends. She was even seen preparing to tuck into some Aussie snacks, such as Tim Tams, Burger Rings, Twisties and Minties, sent to her by an Aussie friend. 'Mate!!! Nothing says I [heart emoji] U quite like this,' she captioned a photo on Instagram. Although Whitesell and Pia shy away from the spotlight, they still live a very privileged life. This year alone, they have travelled to Ireland, Spain and Sydney, where Pia lived for the bulk of her acting career. The couple spent the New Year's break in the Harbour City, where they chartered a yacht for a few days to enjoy with their family and friends. Both Whitesell and Pia have not spoken publicly about their relationship, but the actress has paid tribute to her husband on Instagram many times. 'Patricï¸k, Here's to many more years of laughter, love, and making incredible memories. We love you deeply, and can't wait to see what this next chapter brings!!!ï¸' she wrote in a February post for his birthday. 'As you celebrate this milestone, my wish for you is to embrace this journey with all the joy and love it brings. You've worked so hard, loved so deeply, and led with such GRACE — it's time to enjoy life to its fullest!
