Clearance for Metro Phase-II sought with Parliamentary Standing Committee
Hyderabad At the Parliamentary Standing Committee meeting of Housing and Urban Affairs in New Delhi on Wednesday, Bhongir MP Chamala Kiran Kumar Reddy made a strong case for the urgent sanction of Hyderabad Metro Phase-II. The MP highlighted that Hyderabad Metro Phase-I, sanctioned in 2010, is currently the second-largest Metro network in the country, after Delhi, with three corridors spanning 69 km. Despite the demand, the city is still awaiting the green signal for Phase-II, which proposes five corridors covering 76.4 km at an estimated cost of ₹24,269 crore, he said. He said that a formal request was placed before the committee to expedite the sanction detailing the approved funding pattern. He said that the Government of India's share will be ₹4,230 crore while Telangana Government will spend ₹7,313 crore, and the remaining ₹11,693 crore will be raised through debt. Mr. Reddy reminded that the Government of India approved Metro projects in 20 cities between 2012 and 2024, Chennai Metro Phase-II with ₹63,240 crore and Bengaluru Metro Phase-III with ₹15,611 crore. 'Hyderabad deserves a similar level of support,' he said.

Telangana HC grants bail, stays conviction of G Janardhan Reddy in Obulapuram mining case
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 11 (ANI): The Telangana High Court on Wednesday granted bail and stayed the conviction and sentence awarded to Karnataka's former minister and current MLA, Gali Janardhan Reddy, in the high-profile Obulapuram illegal mining case. While talking to ANI, one of his lawyers confirmed that this order effectively halts his disqualification, allowing him to retain his seat in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Along with Reddy, the court also granted bail to co-accused VD Rajagopal (Accused No. 3), Ali Khan (A-7), and BV Srinivasa Reddy (A-1). Obulapuram Mining Company's (A-4) conviction has also been stayed. The bail for all accused has been granted on the condition of furnishing a personal bond of Rs 10 lakh along with two sureties of Rs 10 lakh each. Additionally, the court has directed the accused to surrender their passports. The order was pronounced in response to pleas seeking bail and a stay on conviction pending appeal, with the court noting that the grounds presented justified interim relief. Gali Janardhan Reddy was represented by senior advocate S Nagamuthu, along with advocates Mayank Jain and Vimal Varma Vasireddy. On May 6, 2025, the CBI Special Court (Trial Court) in Hyderabad delivered its verdict in the criminal case involving allegations that Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC) engaged in illegal mining activities beyond the areas leased to it by the erstwhile United Andhra Pradesh government. The judgment came 16 years after the FIR was originally registered. The court found Gali Janardhan Reddy and three others guilty and sentenced each to seven years of imprisonment. Following their conviction, all four individuals approached the High Court to challenge the verdict. (ANI)

Telangana to intensify pitch for resolution of pending reorganisation issues with Andhra Pradesh
Telangana government has decided to intensify its pitch for resolution of the pending reorganisation issues with neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is said to have asked the officials concerned to press for convening the meeting of the officials committee — constituted to expeditiously resolve the issues between the two Telugu States. Accordingly, it was decided to address a communication to the Chief Secretary of Andhra Pradesh asking them to fix a date and time for the meeting. The last meeting of the officials committee was held in Mangalagiri on December 2 last year and discussed among other things, reimbursement of salaries paid by Andhra Pradesh power utilities to Andhra Pradesh native employees working in Telangana; apportionment of debt of 15 externally aided projects; division of labour cess and reimbursement of expenditure incurred by the Telangana government on the common institutions. Central Government grants relating to centrally sponsored schemes credited to Andhra Pradesh accounts, Telangana's share in excess input tax credit to be availed by dealers and the share of Telangana in tax on liquor collected in May 2014 were discussed during the meeting. However, there was no meeting of the officials committee more than six months after the first meeting in December last year. Keeping this in view, Mr. Reddy reportedly directed the officials concerned to expedite the resolution of the issues at the official level. In the event of certain issues remaining unresolved, they would be escalated to the Ministers' committee comprising Ministers from the two States as its members. The officials' committee, headed by the Chief Secretary, was constituted last year with the then Finance Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and Chief Minister's Office (CMO) principal secretary V. Seshadri as members on behalf of Telangana. Though Mr. Rao has been elevated as Chief Secretary subsequently, he continues to supervise the State Reorganisation affairs. Meanwhile, a delegation of the Finance department senior officials is camping in New Delhi to mount pressure on the Centre to ensure release of funds pending to Telangana. These include dues pertaining to backward regions grants fund amounting to around Rs. 1,800 crore, expenditure incurred by the State on common institutions and others that had received the consent of the Union Home Ministry.
