MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal referred to two notable cases: an Indian tourist allegedly caught shoplifting goods valued at nearly $1,000 from a US store, and a 42-year-old Indian national detained in Washington State on charges related to child pornography.
'Our constant request to all our people who go abroad is that they should follow the law and order of that country, and create a good image of the country,' Jaiswal stated.
Regarding the child pornography case, he added, 'This is a matter of law and order. Indian nationals must abide by local laws.'

These comments came soon after the US Embassy in India issued a stern warning to visa holders following the viral video of the shoplifting incident. The embassy cautioned that criminal activities such as theft could result in visa cancellations and permanent bans on future travel to the United States.
With heightened immigration enforcement and stricter visa scrutiny under current US policies, Indian nationals are urged to exercise caution and strictly comply with foreign laws to avoid legal troubles.

‘F*** off, Indian': Racist attack in Australia leaves Indian national hospitalised in Adelaide
An Indian student in Adelaide, Australia, has been hospitalised with serious injuries after a violent assault that is being investigated as a possible racist attack. The incident has sparked outrage in the Indian community and renewed concerns over the safety of international students. read more An Indian international student has been hospitalised with serious injuries after a brutal assault in Adelaide, Australia — an incident now under investigation as a possible racially motivated attack. The case has sparked outrage within the Indian community and reignited concerns over the safety of international students in Australia. Brutal attack in the city centre The victim, 23-year-old Charanpreet Singh, was attacked on the night of July 19 near Kintore Avenue, a central area in Adelaide, while he and his wife had stopped to view the Illuminate light installations. According to reports, a group of five men pulled up beside Singh's car, demanded he move his vehicle, and began hurling racial abuse, allegedly shouting, 'F** off, Indian'* before launching a violent assault. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Singh was punched through the car window, dragged out, and beaten with both fists and weapons, including metal knuckles. 'I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious,' Singh later told 9News from his hospital bed. He was rushed to the Royal Adelaide Hospital, where doctors found brain trauma, facial fractures, a broken nose, and severe eye injuries, requiring surgery and an overnight stay. Police launch investigation South Australia Police responded shortly after 9:20 pm and found Singh badly injured. A 20-year-old man from Enfield was arrested the next day and charged with assault causing harm, but was later released on bail. Authorities are still searching for the four remaining attackers. Police have recovered CCTV footage from the area, which is well-monitored due to its proximity to the University of Adelaide and cultural landmarks. A video of the assault has also gone viral on social media, further fuelling public anger. From his hospital bed, Singh said the attack left him shaken not just physically, but emotionally. 'Things like this make you feel like going back… You can change your body, but you can't change the colour of your skin,' he said. Strong condemnation The incident has drawn condemnation from South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, who called it 'deeply disturbing.' 'Any evidence of a racial attack is completely unwelcome in our state. It's not who we are, and not where the majority of our community stands,' the Premier said. The Indian community, both in Australia and back home, has called for stricter action and better protections for international students facing racial discrimination and violence abroad. Another racist attack? Indian man brutally assaulted and left to die in Adelaide after Dublin incident
In a deeply disturbing incident, a 23-year-old Indian man, Charanpreet Singh, was brutally assaulted and left unconscious on a street in Adelaide. The alleged racist attack occurred on Saturday night near Kintore Avenue in the heart of the city, reportedly following a car parking dispute. According to 9News, Singh was verbally abused with racial slurs before being repeatedly punched and left to die by the roadside. "They just said 'f--- off, Indian', and after that they just started punching," Singh told 9News from his hospital bed. "I tried to fight back, but they beat me until I was unconscious." This incident is the latest in a disturbing pattern of racially motivated violence targeting Indian nationals abroad. Recently, an Indian IT professional in Dublin was similarly assaulted and humiliated by a gang. The young man sustained severe injuries, including brain trauma and multiple facial fractures. He was immediately rushed to hospital and remains under medical care. South Australia Police arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield on Sunday and charged him with assault causing harm. However, the other attackers managed to flee the scene and are yet to be identified. Adelaide Police are now reviewing CCTV footage and have appealed to the public for assistance in locating the remaining assailants. Singh, who is a student in Adelaide, said the ordeal has left him deeply shaken. "Things like this, when they happen, it makes you feel like you should go back," he said. 'You can change anything in your body, but you can't change the colours.' South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas strongly condemned the attack: "Any time we see any evidence of any racial attack, it is completely unwelcome in our state and just not consistent with where the majority of our community are at." An Indian man in his 40s was hospitalised following a brutal and racially motivated assault in Tallaght, a suburb of Dublin, late on Saturday evening. The victim, who had arrived in Ireland only three weeks prior and is reported to work for Amazon, was viciously attacked by a group of teenage males after being falsely accused of inappropriate conduct near a children's playground. The incident occurred at approximately 6 pm on Parkhill Road, where the man was subjected to severe physical violence, including having his trousers forcibly removed. Witnesses found him bleeding heavily from multiple injuries to his face, arms, and legs before rushing him to Tallaght University Hospital for emergency treatment.

AIS Joint Secretary Baljit Singh Sekhon Slapped With Suspension Following WUG Debacle
Last Updated: Multiple Indian athletes were barred from taking part in their respective events due to administrative errors, including misspelling of athletes' names in a national embarrassment. Joint Secretary of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), Baljit Singh Sekhon, has been handed a suspension by the governing body's administrative department following the World Universities Games debacle in Germany. Multiple Indian athletes were barred from taking part in their respective events due to administrative errors, including misspelling of athletes' names in a national embarrassment. The incident caused widespread outrage and flagged the failures of the administrative unit as multiple athletes missed out on their events despite being present at the venue during the time of the competition. The Indian badminton team, which secured bronze at the ongoing Games in Rhine-Ruhr, Germany, faced controversy when it was disclosed that six of the 12 selected players were prohibited from participating due to officials' failure to correctly submit all names during the managers' meeting on July 16. Female quarter-miler Devyani Bazala also alleged that she couldn't participate in her event as her name went missing because of late alteration by officials in submitting the confirmation list. The AIU has since formed a four-member panel, to probe into the mismanagement, and has been instructed to submit their findings within a period of 15 days. The panel is set to look into the non-inclusion of selected athletes, the exclusion of designated coaches and the penalties imposed by the event organisers in addition to any procedural lapses, and recommend corrective and disciplinary measures in accordancw with their findings. 'The inquiry panel will investigate the entire matter and to ensure that it works impartially, we have decided to suspend our joint secretary Baljit Singh Skehon. The panel will submit its report within 15 days," AIU Secretary General Dr Pankaj Mitta said. 'In addition, the AIU has also ensured that athletes who were denied participation due to the manager's mistake have been given certificates and medals by FISU. This was after we held discussions with FISU," he added. view comments First Published: July 23, 2025, 10:06 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
