Aidiladha: Over Two Million Vehicles Expected On PLUS Highways

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) expects over two million vehicles daily on its highways during the peak days, between June 5 and 6, as well as June 8 and 9, in conjunction with the Aidiladha holiday on June 7.
In a statement today, PLUS announced that to distribute traffic and prevent vehicles from concentrating in specific locations on the highways simultaneously, the company has provided the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel schedule through the PLUS app to help users plan their journeys well in advance
'Due to this, PLUS urges the public to plan and schedule their travel itineraries earlier based on the MyPLUS-TTA recommendations, especially for trips back to their hometowns from the Klang Valley between June 5 and 7, as well as trips back to the Klang Valley between June 8 and 10 after the Aidiladha holiday," according to the statement.
PLUS said highway users can obtain the MyPLUS-TTA digital travel schedule by downloading and accessing the PLUS app to choose the most optimal travel times for journeys on the PLUS highways and the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) between June 5 and 10.
According to PLUS, the MyPLUS-TTA initiative is part of PLUS's efforts to enhance the comfort of highway users during festive seasons based on data and travel patterns from previous festive seasons.
For a smooth traffic flow in conjunction with the holiday, PLUS will activate the Smart Lane at 30 focal points identifiable by Green Flashing Lights and special signboards. This lane is only for light, private and passenger vehicles, with a recommended speed limit of around 60 kilometres per hour (km/h).
PLUS also reminds users to follow instructions of on-site personnel at these locations as well as not to use the emergency lanes at other locations where there are no Smart Lane routes in order to avoid legal action.
From June 5 to 9, there will be no lane closures for maintenance works, except in cases of emergencies, accidents and critical repairs.
Meanwhile, PLUS is also taking several other steps to further facilitate the movement of the public during the festive season, including additional preparations at toll plazas and Rest and Service areas (R&R).

School holidays bring opportunities to local economy in Johor
JOHOR BAHRU: The school holidays since May 29, which brought joy to students and families, are a boon for hawkers, homestay operators and local communities around tourist hotspots in the state. Meanwhile, ice cream vendor Hasimi Md Isa, 41, said the school holiday season is like the 'harvest season' that he has been waiting for. 'During this school holiday, my ice cream sales can reach more than RM50 a day compared to RM30 a day. This school holiday is indeed a much-anticipated moment for local hawkers following the increase in the number of tourists coming to the state,' he said. The presence of tourists from outside Johor, such as Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and Pahang, also contributes to the increase in local economic activities, especially homestay operators around the hotspots. Homestay operator Suraya Abd Majid, 38, said all units advertised on digital platforms had been booked a week before the holiday began, showing high demand for affordable accommodation outside the countryside. 'Many families also choose to stay in homestays because they can cook and save money. Homestays are also a choice because their facilities are more family-friendly. 'For this school holiday season alone, my homestay in Kempas has been fully booked until June 7. In fact, I have often received calls from people wanting to book a homestay within two to three days recently,' she said when contacted by Bernama. On May 29, the media reported that Johor Unity, Heritage and Culture Exco, K. Raven Kumar, announced that 80 per cent of hotel room reservations in tourist hotspots in Johor had been filled in conjunction with the first term school holidays. The school holidays are expected to end on June 10, and local traders, hawkers and homestay operators hope that this momentum can continue ahead of Visit Johor Year 2026.

Selangor man dies during dive trip off Indonesia's Pulau Weh
JAKARTA, June 2 — The body of a Malaysian man who died during a diving trip off Indonesia's Aceh province has been repatriated, officials said yesterday. Malaysia's Consul General in Medan, Shahril Nizam Abdul Malek, confirmed that the remains of Haikal Rafie Halim, 33, from Selangor, were flown to Kuala Lumpur yesterday evening. 'The flight departed Sultan Iskandar Muda International Airport in Aceh at 4.55 pm local time for Kuala Lumpur International Airport,' he told Bernama. Haikal was part of a group of three Malaysian divers accompanied by a local dive guide when they encountered strong undercurrents near the Canyon dive site off Pulau Weh, near Sabang on Saturday. 'Haikal is believed to have panicked and was instructed to surface. Upon reaching the surface, he was found unconscious and reportedly foaming at the mouth,' Sabang police chief Sukoco stated in a statement. He was taken by speedboat to Iboih Beach and rushed to the health centre, where he was pronounced dead at 10.50 am, before being sent to Sabang Hospital for a post-mortem, he added. The incident occurred near the Zero Kilometer Monument, a popular dive site frequented by domestic and international tourists. — Bernama
