Thane, July 19 (PTI) The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has lodged a police complaint after an exam supervisor was seen providing answers to a candidate during its ongoing Direct Service Recruitment Examination, it said on Saturday.
The incident took place during the online examination at a centre in Kolhapur district on July 16, the civic body said in a release.
After receiving a complaint, investigation was conducted, and CCTV footage showed that the supervisor was providing answers to a candidate 'without the candidate asking," it said.
The supervisor was immediately removed and a complaint was filed against him at the local police station, it said.
Around 55,000 candidates appeared for the exam, being conducted across 28 centres to fill up 668 posts, over three days, the civic body said.
The entire process is being conducted through Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) under the guidance of NMMC.
NMMC Commissioner Kailash Shinde said the recruitment process was transparent and being conducted as per the rules, and would continue as per the schedule. PTI COR KRK

Titan Submersible Disaster Could Have Been Prevented, Claims US Coast Guard Report

Last Updated: The 327-page report details a series of technical and procedural failures that were identified well before the doomed expedition. A new report published by the US Coast Guard on Tuesday has concluded that the fatal Titan submersible disaster could have been avoided, citing critical oversights and ignored safety warnings. The findings, reported by the Associated Press, place primary blame on OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, who allegedly continued operations despite repeated alerts from industry experts and his own staff. The 327-page report details a series of technical and procedural failures that were identified well before the doomed expedition. It reveals that OceanGate had received numerous recommendations and warnings regarding the structural integrity of the Titan submersible. Experts had expressed serious concerns over the design and materials used. Despite these concerns, Rush pressed forward with the June 18, 2023, dive, which was intended to explore the Titanic's remains at the bottom of the North Atlantic. The submersible lost communication with its surface support vessel approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes into the descent. After an extensive multi-national search, debris was found on the ocean floor, indicating a catastrophic implosion that instantly killed all five passengers on board. The victims included OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush, British businessman Hamish Harding, Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his 19-year-old son Suleman, and renowned French Titanic expert and pilot Paul-Henri Nargeolet. 'In summary, OceanGate repeatedly prioritised operational goals and financial considerations over safety, ignoring warnings from both industry experts and internal staff," stated the Coast Guard report. Maritime Board of Investigation (MBI) chairman Jason Neubauer noted that if Rush had survived, he could have faced criminal prosecution, potentially resulting in a prison sentence of up to 10 years. The report accuses OceanGate of 'strategically creating and exploiting regulatory confusion" to bypass standard deep-sea safety protocols that have historically ensured a strong safety record in the submersible industry. In addition to design and engineering flaws, the report highlighted a toxic work culture within OceanGate. Employees who raised safety concerns were reportedly silenced, pressured, or even terminated. Multiple former staff members came forward over the past two years to corroborate the claims. OceanGate officially suspended operations in July 2023. view comments First Published: August 06, 2025, 05:24 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Clintons Among Key Figures Facing Subpoenas In GOP-Led Epstein Inquiry

The Department of Justice has also been subpoenaed to produce records "related to" Epstein. The House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to several high-profile individuals as part of its ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein, the Associated Press reported Tuesday. Among those subpoenaed for depositions are former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, as well as eight former senior officials from the Department of Justice. According to the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, the subpoenas were issued to six former Attorneys General, Loretta Lynch, Eric Holder, Bill Barr, Merrick Garland, Jeff Sessions, and Alberto Gonzales, as well as former FBI Directors James Comey and Robert Mueller. The closed-door depositions are scheduled to take place between August and mid-October. The Department of Justice has also been subpoenaed to produce records 'related to" Epstein. The committee has requested the submission of 'full, complete, unredacted Epstein Files" by August 19, 2025. This latest development comes after the DoJ stated last month that it would not release any additional information related to the case and confirmed that no further individuals were expected to be charged. In a letter addressed to former President Clinton, Committee Chairman James Comer requested his appearance for a deposition on October 14, specifically regarding his past relationship with Epstein. 'By your own admission, you flew on Jeffrey Epstein's private plane four separate times in 2002 and 2003," Comer wrote. Clinton has previously denied ever visiting Epstein's private island, which has been linked to allegations of abuse. President Donald Trump has publicly challenged Clinton's statements, claiming, without providing evidence, that Clinton visited the island '28 times." In a 2019 statement, Clinton's spokesperson Angel Urena said the former president had no knowledge of Epstein's crimes and had not spoken to him in over a decade. The statement confirmed that Clinton flew on Epstein's private aircraft four times in 2002 and 2003, all for work related to the Clinton Foundation and in the company of foundation staff and Secret Service agents. US Senator Asks FBI To Help Arrest Texas Dem Fleeing As State House Fails To Reach Quorum For

Senator John Cornyn of Texas has sent a letter to FBI director Kash Patel, imploring him to take 'any appropriate steps' to aid Texas law enforcement in locating and arresting Democrats who have fled the state.'In a representative democracy, we resolve our differences by debating and voting, not by running away,' Cornyn writes of the quorum break, now in its second day. 'These legislators have committed potential criminal acts in their rush to avoid their constitutional responsibilities and must be fully investigated and held accountable.'News18 Mobile App -
