Newcastle ‘want to seal Benjamin Sesko transfer in next 24 hours as Toon go all out to beat Man Utd to £70m deal'

NEWCASTLE UNITED are hoping to wrap up the signing of Benjamin Sesko in the next "24 hours" its been claimed. The Magpies have identified the RB Leipzig hitman as a replacement for wantaway striker Alexander Isak. 1 The Toon have tabled a club-record bid for the Slovenia international to Leipzig. Both clubs remain in talks over a big-money transfer for the striker, who is also wanted by Manchester United. And the Daily Mail claim the Toon brass want to wrap up the deal for the 22-year-old as soon as possible. They also claim Sesko is "willing" to swap Leipzig for the north east of England. United could, however, still scupper the Toon's pursuit of Leipzig's star man. But the Red Devils are reportedly trailing their Prem rivals in the race for his signature as they've yet to submit an official bid to Leipzig. Sesko was left out of the matchday squad for Leipzig's pre-season friednly defeat to Atalanta last Saturday. And Leipzig bigwig Marcel Schafer admitted the club opted to leave him out of the squad due to the interest he's garnering from United and Newcastle. He told BILD: "In Benji's case, several clubs have shown concrete interest, and based on the overall situation, we have decided that he will not play today. But, I would like to emphasise this clearly: That does not mean that he will not play next week either. "I think we had the same situation with Benji last year. "Everyone knows the outcome. So I want to make it clear that he's not heading off to just any club now. "Due to the very concrete interest from several clubs, we've decided for today that he won't play." Chelsea in line for huge transfer windfall as Inter Milan battle Premier League clubs for ex-star who played two games

NOTTINGHAM Forest, Everton and Inter Milan are poised to join the battle to sign Ipswich star Omari Hutchinson. Forest, the Toffees and the Serie A giants are all weighing up whether to make a move after both Leipzig and Brentford lodged £35m bids last month. 4 Relegated Ipswich want more for their biggest asset and hope to generate an auction for Hutchinson. Brentford are tipped to return with an improved offer of £37.5m but are now likely to face even stiffer competition for the England Under-21 international. Hutchinson, 21, did not travel to France for the Tractor Boys' friendly against Auxerre last weekend because of uncertainty about his future. Boss Kieran McKenna said: 'Omari, with the speculation around his future at the moment, he didn't feel mentally in the right place to come for the game. 'It's a challenging situation for everyone. He's a player that we love and we support and we have empathy with, with the year that he's been through and this important moment in his career. 'We'll keep working and communicating on that situation as well and hopefully it'll be the best resolution for the club and for the player.' And a sale of Hutchinson by Ipswich could hand Chelsea a huge PSR boost after another summer spending spree. The England U21 winger played just twice for the Blues, but SunSport understands the West Londoners agreed a 25 per cent sell-on clause before he joined Ipswich. He further proved his class and maturity with his performances in England U21's Euros-winning tournament. He featured in all six of the young Lions' matches at the tournament, and scored the second goal in their 3-2 victory over Germany in the final.

Novak Djokovic pulls out of Cincinnati and will not play before US Open

Novak Djokovic has pulled out of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Cincinnati, the final warm-up tournament before the US Open. It marks the second straight year that the Serbian has withdrawn from the event, and means that he will not have played a competitive match between his loss to eventual champion Jannik Sinner in the Wimbledon semi-finals and the start of the US Open - a gap of almost a month and a half. A spokesperson for the Cincinnati Open, which begins on 7 August, confirmed that Djokovic had withdrawn. He also withdrew from this month's Canadian Open, another Masters 1000 event, which is currently underway. In recent years Djokovic - ranked the world No 6 - has opted for a fairly sparse calendar, choosing to preserve his body and aim to peak for the grand slam tournaments as he searches for a 25th major title. This time last year he withdrew from Cincinnati after winning Olympic gold, the one significant title which had eluded him throughout his career, and did not play between his Paris triumph and the US Open. He suffered a surprise defeat in the third round in New York to Alexei Popyrin. A lack of match sharpness has not been a major issue for him this season so far: Djokovic did not play between reaching the semi-finals at the French Open, when he also lost to Sinner, and Wimbledon, but produced a fine run to make the last four again. The 38-year-old said after his exit at Wimbledon, 'It's just age, the wear and tear of the body. As much as I'm taking care of it, the reality hits me right now. 'It's tough for me to accept that because I feel like, when I'm fresh, when I'm fit, I can still play really good tennis. I've proven that this year. But I guess playing best-of-five, particularly this year, has been a real struggle for me physically. 'The longer the tournament goes, the worse the condition gets. I feel like I'm going into the match with the tank half empty. It's just not possible to win a match like that.' He has not won a grand slam since the 2023 US Open, with Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz winning the last seven majors between them. Sinner is the defending champion in New York. has been granted a wildcard spot in the 16-strong draw alongside compatriot Olga Danilovic.
