India's job market sees high mobility, many seeking new roles: Report
India's job market is witnessing high mobility with a significant percentage of professionals actively seeking new roles, many are now negotiating for better pay within their current organisations, says a survey.
The latest Talent Trends India 2025 report by Michael Page reveals that 62 per cent of professionals have negotiated a raise this year, and 37 per cent succeeded -- signalling a shift toward internal advancement.
The rate of successful salary increases has risen from 32 per cent last year to 37 per cent this year. The report is based on insights from nearly 3,000 professionals across the country. According to the report, professionals are increasingly prioritising purpose, ethics, and flexibility in an organisation.
"Today's workforce is increasingly values-driven and future-focused. Job satisfaction alone is no longer enough to ensure loyalty -- professionals are continuously evaluating their growth trajectory, alignment with company values, and the flexibility offered," said Nilay Khandelwal, Senior Managing Director, Michael Page India & Singapore.
The high rate of job-seeking despite internal advancement reflects a shift from passive to proactive career management.
"Employees are looking for meaning, agility, and long-term relevance in their roles. Employers that fail to engage employees on these deeper levels risk losing talent -- even if the immediate conditions appear favourable," Khandelwal added.
The report further highlighted that the adoption of GenAI tools has increased significantly in Indian organisations. With 64 per cent of professionals using GenAI tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot, India is ahead of global adoption curves.
However, only 31 per cent feel well-prepared by their employers to use these tools effectively, the report said.
"To close the gap, organisations must move beyond passive AI enablement to active AI readiness. This means offering structured training, clear usage guidelines, and transparent communication about how GenAI will impact roles and workflows. Employees need assurance that AI is a tool for augmentation, not replacement," Khandelwal said.
As professionals grow more discerning and values-driven, the ability to offer clarity -- on culture, compensation, flexibility, technology, and inclusivity -- has become a true competitive advantage.
"In a market shaped by rapid change and rising expectations, organisations that lead with transparency and purpose will not only attract top talent but also build workplaces where people choose to stay, grow, and thrive," the report said.>

The World Bank's assessment, based on the $3.00 per day international poverty line (using 2021 prices), shows a broad-based reduction across both rural and urban areas. While the overall extreme poverty rate fell to 5.3%, if measured by the earlier $2.15 poverty rate (based on 2017 prices), only 2.3% of the Indian population lived in extreme poverty in 2022–23, down from 16.2% in 2011–12. This effectively lifted 171 million people above that specific poverty line. This sharp decline was uniformly observed, with rural extreme poverty falling from 18.4% to 2.8% and urban extreme poverty reducing from 10.7% to 1.1% between 2011–12 and 2022–23. The narrowing gap between rural and urban poverty indicates that the benefits of economic growth have reached various segments of the population. Thousands of users globally are currently experiencing issues with YouTube. Users have reported facing issues with loading videos from both the app and website. The problem is reportedly affecting streaming videos via both the YouTube app and website. In the US, over 5,000 reports concerning the platform's accessibility were registered on Downdetector. Meanwhile, in the UK and India, over 1800 and 360 users have raised complaints with YouTube, respectively. The majority of these reports specifically cited issues with video streaming on the website. How the YouTube outage is affecting users In the US, 79% and 3% of users complained facing issues with the website and the app, respectively. 18% of users reported problems with streaming videos on the platform. In the UK, 78% and 2% of users faced problems with the YouTube website and app, respectively, while 20% raised issues about being unable to stream videos on the platform. Meanwhile, in India, 68% and 5% of YouTube users faced issues with the website and the app, respectively, while 27% faced problems with streaming videos. A map on Downdetector also showed that the latest YouTube outage is affecting users all across the US, UK and India. Tariffs have led to caution in the life sciences segment: Cognizant's Gummadi
Bengaluru: As clients look for cost optimisation, they aim to break silos and move towards consolidating their IT services partners. "They want a partner who can give end-to-end solutions," Surya Gummadi, President of the Americas business at Cognizant , said during the recent Bank of America Securities 2025 Global Technology Conference. With GenAI disrupting businesses, Gummadi felt pricing will evolve significantly in the next six months as clients move towards outcome-based said AI brought a great deal of uncertainty, adding to the macroeconomic pressures. That, he points out, is the difference between the previous cycles of the economic crisis. He, however, believes GenAI will create newer opportunities for Cognizant. Meanwhile, the tariff war triggered by US President Donald Trump impacted business sentiment in life sciences, product and manufacturing, as well as retail, he told Bank of America analysts. "There is some caution in the healthcare space. Tariffs have led to caution in the life sciences segment. Product and manufacturing clients are dealing with tariff uncertainty, and retail clients have also shown it in their guidance. All this is having a cascading effect on IT projects," Gummadi said. Despite the tough environment, Cognizant signed three mega deals by the end of the second quarter. Cognizant started to see an uptick in deal momentum, in general. Compared to 2023, when the firm signed 17 large deals, the New Jersey-headquartered IT services firm signed 29 large deals in 2024. In a choppy environment, CTS managed to get an extension of its contract with the healthcare client, which is a $1 billion deal. The full-year trailing 12-month booking for 2024 was $27.1 billion.
