Four New Metro Lines, One App: Mumbai To Get A Mega Mobility Makeover
Mumbai will upgrade public transport with four new Metro corridors and the Mumbai One app by 2025, integrating 11 services for seamless travel
Mumbai is set for a major public transport upgrade. By the end of 2025, at least four new Metro corridors are expected to open partially.
Alongside this, the city is also preparing to launch the Mumbai One app, which will allow commuters to plan, book, and pay for their trips across multiple modes of transport.
The app will integrate 11 services, including Mumbai's suburban rail (Central, Western, and Harbour lines), all Metro lines, Monorail, and buses run by BEST, TMT, KDMT, MBMT, and NMMT.
With features like map-based bookings, one QR code for multimodal travel, live updates, and SOS services, the app aims to offer a seamless travel experience. It supports the Digital India mission and marks a step towards smarter, paperless public transport in the city.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is building a 12-line Metro network across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), covering a total of 337.1 km, Mid-Day reported.
So far, four lines (58.9 km) are already operational. Another eight lines, covering 165.7 km, are currently under construction.
Metro Line 9 (Red Line) – This 10.5 km elevated extension connects Dahisar to Mira Bhayander. A 4.5 km stretch from Dahisar to Kashigaon is expected to open by December 2025. This section will connect with existing Lines 2A and 10. Construction is nearly complete, with 98% work done.
Metro Line 2B (Yellow Line) – This 23.64 km elevated corridor will run from DN Nagar to Mandale via BKC, Kurla, and Chembur. A 5.4 km stretch from Mandale to Diamond Garden is likely to open by the end of 2025. Trial runs are already in progress, and about 78% of construction is done.
Metro Line 3 (Aqua Line) – Mumbai's first underground Metro, running from Colaba to SEEPZ. A 9.77 km stretch opened in May 2025. Another 11.57 km, connecting Cuffe Parade to Aarey, is expected to open by August 2025. Civil work is 99.86% complete.
Metro Line 4 & 4A (Green Line) – This elevated corridor will link Wadala to Kasarvadavli and Gaimukh, covering 35.32 km. A 10-station stretch from Gaimukh to Cadbury Junction is set to open by early 2026. Work is over 84% complete.
In addition to the Metro expansion, MMRDA has completed the new Mandale Metro depot, which includes India's largest Metro training centre. Equipped with advanced simulators, the centre will train new staff and upskill existing workers. It also supports the government's skill development goals under PMKVY.

Don't give China pass, burn relationship with strong ally India: Nikki Haley
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New York, Aug 5 (PTI) The US should not burn its relationship with a 'strong ally like India" and give a pass to China, Indian-American Republican leader Nikki Haley said on Tuesday, amid President Donald Trump's attacks against New Delhi over tariffs and purchases of Russian oil. 'India should not be buying oil from Russia. But China, an adversary and the number one buyer of Russian and Iranian oil, got a 90-day tariff pause," Haley said in a post on X. 'Don't give China a pass and burn a relationship with a strong ally like India," she said. Haley, the former Governor of South Carolina, was the US Ambassador to the United Nations under Trump's first presidential term, becoming the first Indian-American to be appointed to a cabinet-level post in the US administration. In 2013, she officially announced her candidacy for the 2024 presidential election and withdrew from the race in March last year. Her comments came hours after Trump said India has not been a 'good trading partner" and announced he will raise tariffs on India 'very substantially over the next 24 hours" because New Delhi is buying Russian oil and 'fueling" the 'war machine". India on Monday mounted an unusually sharp counterattack on the US and the European Union for their 'unjustified and unreasonable" targeting of New Delhi for its procurement of Russian crude oil. Meanwhile, Trump, in an interview with CNBC responded to a question on China and its leader, Xi Jinping, and said, 'We have a very good relationship". Trump added that he might have a meeting with the Chinese President 'before the end of the year, most likely, if we make a deal." He said he won't have a meeting if a deal doesn't materialise. 'But we're getting very close to a deal. We're getting along with China very well." Trump added that China is 'very reliant" on the US. 'My relationship with them is very good. I think we'll make a good deal. It's not imperative, but I think we're going to make a good deal." He added that he has had a 'great relationship" with President Xi. 'We respect him a lot. They respect us a lot." PTI YAS GRS GRS GRS GRS view comments First Published: August 05, 2025, 21:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
