M.P. doctor held for raping minor patient; intruder booked for assaulting girl student on same campus
A 35-year-old doctor has been arrested for allegedly raping a 16-year-old female patient at a private medical college in Madhya Pradesh's Dewas district, police said on Thursday. Another case of sexual assault has also been lodged in connection with an unidentified man entering a girl's hostel room on the same campus and allegedly trying to rape her.
According to the police, the doctor, identified as Roopam Jain, also a faculty member, allegedly raped the girl at his residence on the campus of the Amaltas Institute of Medical Sciences on Tuesday after calling her for a check-up.
Dewas Additional Superintendent of Police (Rural) Harinarayan Batham told The Hindu that Dr. Jain was arrested on Wednesday based on a complaint by the girl and has been sent to judicial custody.
'The girl had met him about one and a half months ago when she visited the hospital with her parents. He had called her on Tuesday for some check-up, took her to his residence and raped her,' Mr. Batham said, adding that the girl narrated the ordeal to her parents immediately after incident.
Mr. Batham said the second incident took place on Wednesday night when an intruder entered the room of a second year girl student through an air-conditioning duct when she was sleeping.
'The man threatened the girl with a knife and tried to rape her. She pretended to faint, asked for water, and ran for help as soon as he moved away from her,' the officer said, adding that the accused fled the scene before other students and security could nab him.
He said separate cases have been lodged in both cases under relevant sections of the BNS, while the POCSO Act has also been invoked in the first case.
He added that several teams have been formed and at least a Deputy SP, five station in-charges and 25 personnel have been deployed to nab the second accused. The police are also scouring through several CCTV footage inside and around the campus.
Meanwhile, students from the college staged a demonstration and blocked a nearby highway, and moved only after assurances of a strict and swift action from senior police officers.
Following the students' protest, the college administration also suspended a warden posted at the hostel.

Girl, 9, raped by ‘father's friends' in Noida Sector 21; 3 arrested
Police have arrested three men for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl over the past month in Noida's Sector 21, officials said on Thursday. The accused, who police said are friends of the victim's father, were booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The horrific case came to light on Tuesday when the girl's father took her to a private hospital after she complained of persistent illness. During the medical examination, doctors confirmed signs of sexual assault and immediately alerted the authorities. According to police officials, the victim is a Class 1 student who lives with her father and two siblings—an elder brother and younger sister—in the servant quarters of a house where her father is employed. The family has resided in Sector 21 for about 25 years, and the parents are currently separated. The three accused—a 35-year-old from Sector 123 who irons clothes; a 50-year-old security guard who lives in Sector 48; and a 55-year-old from Harola who is a driver —were regular visitors to the family's home. HT is not identifying the three men because it could lead to the victim's identification as well. 'These men were regular visitors to the family's home and took advantage of their access to target the child when she was alone,' explained a senior police officer involved in the investigation, speaking on condition of anonymity. The victim's elder brother explained how the family uncovered the rape. 'My sister was feeling unwell the past week. When her health started to deteriorate, she informed my father that his friends had sexually assaulted her,' he told HT. 'The doctors confirmed the assault during examination and informed police, after which we filed a formal complaint.' Police confirmed that they were informed by doctors at the private hospital. 'Once we got the information, we rushed to the spot and counselled the minor. The girl revealed that her father's three friends who also work close to her home allegedly raped her in three different dates in the last one month,' said a senior police officer, part of the investigation requesting anonymity. Additional deputy commissioner of police Sumit Shukla outlined the charges: 'We have registered the case under BNS sections 137(2) for kidnapping, 74 for assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, and 65 for rape, along with relevant POCSO Act sections at Sector 20 police station.' The three suspects were arrested on Wednesday and remanded to judicial custody before being produced in court on Thursday. Investigators are working to determine if this was an isolated incident or part of a broader pattern of abuse. 'We are thoroughly examining all claims made by the survivor and her family,' ADCP Shukla added, noting that the girl's condition is currently stable. The case has sent shockwaves through the area, raising questions about child safety and the vulnerability of domestic workers' children. Police have assured the public of a thorough investigation and strict legal action against the perpetrators.

New Delhi: An Audi, allegedly rashly driven by a businessman, hit a couple and their one-year-old daughter, who were on a motorbike, near Hazrat Nizamuddin in the early hours of Thursday. The bike-borne family was injured. They were taken to AIIMS by police, treated and released. The businessman has been detained. On Thursday, police got a PCR call around 3.20am regarding a road accident near Hazrat Nizamuddin. The caller reported that a high-end car had collided with a motorcycle carrying three people. The investigating officer, who went to the location, found a severely damaged motorcycle on the road, indicating the force of the impact. A preliminary on-site inquiry has revealed that a family — a man, his wife, and their one-year-old daughter — were on the motorcycle when the accident took place. The man was identified as 29-year-old Parvaiz. The family resides in Jamia Nagar in south-east Delhi. However, their one-year-old daughter was kept under observation for a few hours as a precaution and was later discharged," said Hemant Tiwari, deputy commissioner of police (south-east). Based on the incident, a case was registered under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125(a) (act endangering life or personal safety of others) of BNS. The investigation is on. "The victims and the driver were returning to their respective homes," a police source said. The impact was such that the family was thrown off the bike. The car broke a low wall and climed on to the footpath. Officials said they were trying to ascertain the sequence of events by scanning CCTV footage.
