Braves All-Star OF Ronald Acuña Jr. leaves with Achilles tendon tightness and will go to IL

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuña Jr. was removed from Tuesday night's loss at Kansas City with tightness in his right Achilles tendon and will be placed on the 10-day injured list.
Acuña experienced the discomfort after chasing down a ball in right field. He'll be evaluated further on Wednesday.
'It's an Achilles thing, it's going to take a while,' manager Brian Snitker said after the Braves fell 9-6 to the Royals. 'He'll go on the IL and hopefully in 10 days or so it'll clear up.'
Acuña said he initially felt pain while running the bases on Monday night.
'It happened when I scored from first to home on that play,' Acuña said through an interpreter. 'They are going to examine me tomorrow so we'll see how it goes.'
The discomfort returned after Acuña ran for a foul ball in the sixth inning Tuesday night. Later in the inning, a ball was hit over his head and he gave chase. He left the game after the sixth.
'It was hurting even more,' Acuña said. 'I was kind of out there hoping they wouldn't hit it my way and of course any time you do that, they always hit it your way.'
Acuña said the pain was worse than it was on Monday.
'I told them yesterday and everyone said, 'Take the day if you want it, you can have the day off,'' Acuña said. 'I've missed so much time already through injuries I didn't want to miss any more time.'
The five-time All-Star and 2023 National League MVP missed most of last season with a torn left ACL.
'It's an injury, I'm worried,' Acuña said. 'It's more pain, but it feels kind of, I feel it a lot when I try to put pressure on it.'
The Braves (45-61) have dealt with numerous injuries during their disappointing season.
'It's just like, Ozzie (Albies) hit a ball into the dirt and it went in his eye,' Snitker said. 'I was worried that that was an oblique the way he reacted there. I don't know, it's just one of those things, you just have to deal with it. It's not fun dealing with it, not easy dealing with it, but you just have to.'
Acuña walked off the field before a trainer followed him into the locker room.
Acuña is batting .306 with 14 homers and 26 RBIs in 55 games this season. He went 2 for 4 with a homer on Monday night.
Snitker said Eli White will play right field in Acuña's absence.

Brewers use best 60-game stretch in team history to state case as best team in the major leagues

ATLANTA (AP) — Before Tuesday night's 7-2 win at Atlanta, Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy suggested 'most people couldn't tell you five players on our team.' A look at the standings would indicate more Brewers players soon will be recognized by more fans. After all, it's difficult to overlook a team that not only continues to extend its lead in the NL Central but also boasts the best record in the majors. 'What we're doing in here right now is special,' said right-hander Freddy Peralta after allowing only four hits and one run in five innings while setting a career high with his 13th win. 'We're just enjoying the game and coming to compete every day,' Peralta said. 'We have to keep it that way.' Peralta was surprised to learn he had established a career high for wins in a season. 'It always feels good to get the win as a team but also personally for me, it's a big deal,' Peralta said. Murphy said Peralta, who was named to this year NL All-Star team, is "just getting started. ... This is the best Freddy has ever been. I thought he was really, really good.' The Brewers lead second-place Chicago by four games in the NL Central following the Cubs' 5-1 loss to the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night. The Brewers have a five-game winning streak. They have won six straight road games and are 44-16 in their last 60 games overall. It's the best 60-game stretch in team history. Murphy said it will be important for players to keep their focus in the final stretch of the regular season. 'We really have to be disciplined right now, more than ever before," Murphy said after the Brewers (69-44) moved 25 games over .500, their best record of the season. Milwaukee's road success has been an important part of the surge to first place. The team's 33-24 road record gives the Brewers the best winning percentage (.579) away from home in baseball. The record includes winning the first two games of the three-game series in Atlanta. 'You can't assume everything is going to go our way going forward,' Murphy said, adding he recognized the Brewers were fortunate to avoid giving up more runs Tuesday night when the Braves left 14 runners on base, tied for their highest total in the last two seasons. The Brewers also have made key moves this year, including their trade for first baseman Andrew Vaughn on June 13. Vaughn has an 11-game hitting streak, matching his career high, following a two-run single on Tuesday night. He is hitting .429 with four homers and 14 RBIs during is hitting streak. He is hitting .370 since joining the Brewers. Murphy said his players 'are hungry' and 'don't every try to play safe.' As for the lack of national recognition, Murphy just smiled. 'That's the fun of it,' he said. ___ AP MLB:

Mets pull Clay Holmes after five as innings count becomes a factor

Access the Mets beat like never before Join Post Sports+ for exciting subscriber-only features, including real-time texting with Mike Puma about the inside buzz on the Mets. Try it free Clay Holmes posted four 1-2-3 innings and one shaky frame in which he yielded two runs to land at 75 pitches in a tie game through five. Carlos Mendoza made the decision there to pull Holmes and turn to his revamped bullpen, but the skidding Mets went on to drop a 3-2 decision to the Guardians for their seventh loss in eight games. Advertisement Holmes didn't have a major issue with the quick hook as he navigates his way through a rising innings total during his first full year as a starting pitcher over parts of eight seasons in the major leagues. 'I was feeling good. Obviously, it's not really my call, but I think just all things considered, he felt like it was best to go to the pen there, but I was feeling good,' Holmes said afterward. 'Just one of those things, when you're in a pennant race and you have a bullpen like we do, and the game's really close, there's going to be some of those decisions where everything's not really in your control. 'So he made the decision he thought was best for the team and best for the win.' Advertisement Holmes was replaced by Gregory Soto in the sixth, and the Guardians scratched across the go-ahead run against Tyler Rogers one inning later. Holmes had retired the first nine batters he faced and was staked to an early 2-0 lead. Cleveland tied the score in the fourth on RBI singles by Kyle Manzardo and Gabriel Arias before Holmes recorded another scoreless inning in the fifth. Clay Holmes, who allowed two runs over five innings, throws a pitch during the Mets' 3-2 loss to the Guardians on Aug. 5, 2025. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post Advertisement CHECK OUT THE LATEST MLB STANDINGS AND METS STATS 'We're set up bullpen wise there, third time through [the lineup],' Mendoza explained. '[Holmes] was really good the first time through, and then we saw the second time, that fourth inning, they gave him a hard time. 'So I knew I was going to be aggressive there. … But he did his part. He did his job.' The two-time All-Star reliever mostly has done that since signing a three-year contract worth $38 million to be a starter after mostly closing games for the Yanks the previous 3 ¹/₂ years. Advertisement Clay Holmes talks with Francisco Alvarez after giving up two runs in the third inning of the Mets' loss to the Guardians. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post The 32-year-old righty is up to 122 ¹/₃ innings over 23 starts, 52 ¹/₃ more than his previous high with the Pirates and Yankees in 2021. 'At this point in the season, this amount of innings, I'm really kind of encouraged where I'm at. But at the same time, you can't just totally be shortsighted and just totally go by how I may be feeling now,' Holmes said. 'It's a really hard thing to do, to just go out and triple your innings. Especially because we're in a pennant race, and we plan to be playing in October, and we all need to be at our best down the stretch. 'The reality of it is, yeah, my innings are getting up there, and we just want to keep me feeling good. Right now I feel like I'm in a good spot, I've bounced back well. But there's still more to take into account than just right now.'

Eovaldi allows 1 hit, Tellez single helps Rangers spoil Judge's return in 2-0 win over Yankees

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Nathan Eovaldi pitched eight sharp innings, Rowdy Tellez blooped a two-run single on a 10-pitch at-bat in the eighth, and the Texas Rangers spoiled Aaron Judge's return with a 2-0 victory over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night. Judge was 0 for 3 with two strikeouts as the designated hitter after being activated from the 10-day injured list. The All-Star slugger has a tendon strain in his right elbow, and the Yankees plan to start a throwing program Wednesday to see how soon Judge can return to the outfield. The Yankees have lost five in a row, one shy of their season worst, and 19 of their past 24 road games. Anthony Volpe was the only baserunner against Eovaldi, reaching on a hustling double in the third when his soft liner landed behind shortstop Corey Seager in shallow left field. Eovaldi (10-3) has allowed just two runs total in his past six starts. It was his seventh start since returning from right elbow inflammation. Tellez fouled off four two-strike pitches from Devin Williams with the bases loaded and one out before dumping a ball in front of center fielder Trent Grisham. Giancarlo Stanton is temporarily displaced as the DH with Judge unable to play the outfield. He came on as a pinch hitter as the potential tying run in the ninth, but he grounded into a double play started by a diving stop from Seager. Key stat Williams has allowed a run in four consecutive appearances for the first time in his seven-year career. The right-hander has allowed 26 earned runs this season, matching his combined total from 2022-24. Up next Yankees LHP Carlos Rodón (11-7, 3.34 ERA) is set to face RHP Jack Leiter (7-6, 4.10 ERA) on Wednesday in the series finale. ___
