‘Operation Sindoor has reinforced thrust on indigenisation of defence products'
The takeaways from Operation Sindoor constitute confidence of armed forces in the country's industry, a boost to the morale of scientists, the possibilities created for industries to get defence orders and the scope for export orders for India's defence products, Dr. Reddy said, addressing the Academia-Industry Meet – 2025 on Aerospace organised by Kumaraguru Centre for Industrial Research and Innovation (KCIRI) of Kumaraguru Institutions, in association with the CODISSIA Defence Innovation and Atal Incubation Centre (CDIIC) and the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI).
The event was envisioned as a platform to strengthen collaborations between academia and industry, promote indigenous defence technology, and drive progress in the Coimbatore Defence Corridor, in alignment with the national vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
State governments were now vying with one another to make the most of the potential in defence and aerospace industries. Industry clusters could consider creating export promotion cells, as India has set a target for manufacture of indigenous defence products worth ₹3 lakh crore by the next three years. Likewise, the export target has also been increased correspondingly, he said.
Operation Sindoor has shown to the world India's air defence system, accuracy of strikes, and integrated command system. Now that India's defence capabilities are known, industry and academia need to work together to further technologies and bring in the surprise element (in future warfare) for assured success, Dr. Satheesh noted, emphasising that industries have to look at opportunities at this juncture.
Lt. General. Karanbir Singh Brar, GOC, Dakshin Bharat Area, in his presentation of 'Opportunities for development of technologies for defence applications and collaborating with Indian Army' said that while the processes have been simplified under Atmanirbhar Bharat for conversion of prototypes into orders, and through tweaking of the procurement system, a deep understanding of the users has become a necessity. Most of the start-ups were in the proof of concept stage. In industry-academic collaboration, India needs to accelerate as USA and China have already taken long strides, Gen. Brar stressed.
Earlier, V. Sundaram, CDIIC, CODDISSIA, spelt out the road map for broad-basing Coimbatore's contribution to the defence sector.
A. Seshadri Sekhar, Director, IIT Palakkad, while addressing on 'Academia and Defence Collaborative mode for development of disruptive technology' said the institution has given push for industry-academia collaboration through a unique initiative of academic externship that entitles faculty to avail special leave for two months to study the industrial processes and subsequently engage students in real-time problem-solving.
Chandrika Kaushik, Director General - Product Coordination and Services Interaction, DRDO, dwelt on 'possibilities of collaboration with the DRDO on development of systems and technologies'. India was now particular about indigenisation of defence products even if it was costlier, Dr. Chandrika said.
The event culminated with an interactive session on Aerospace and Defence Ecosystem: R&D, Production, Policies, and Industry-Academia Collaboration, that had the participation of A. Joseph, Managing Director, BrahMos Aerospace, among other leading experts.

Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh, and Commander Prerna Deosthalee on Friday offered viewers a rare inside look at Operation Sindoor, India's counterterror mission launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, during a special episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati. Triservice officers offer insight into Operation Sindoor on KBC Wing Commander Singh detailed the precision strikes that crippled terrorist infrastructure. 'We attacked in the interiors of the enemy to break their backs. The hands of those who watered the cactus of terrorism were broken. Twenty-one terror camps were recognised. Nine camps were finalised, and the game was done in 25 minutes,' she said. Colonel Qureshi explained the targets. 'Bahawalpur was the headquarters of the Jaish-e-Mohammed, from where terrorists who attacked Pathankot and Pahalgam were trained; Muridke had the headquarters of the Lashkar-e-Taiba, where Ajmal Kasab and David Headley were trained. Therefore, we had to destroy those places.' Singh added that terrorist camps operated under the cover of civilians. 'We are a peace-loving nation and want to live in synergy with our neighbours. Our next-gen tech weapons were so advanced now that we made the operation possible without any civilian fatalities.' Qureshi emphasised that the mission reflected a whole-of-nation approach involving the government and armed forces. Commander Deosthalee outlined the Navy's role. 'The Navy was battle-ready. We managed the trade routes to stabilise the economy and also ensured deterrence, as a dual job. We also protected the maritime borders as there were anti-national elements that entered in the past. Being part in this mission is a matter of pride and honour.' She described naval warfare as '360 degrees of uncertainty with no room for error in the middle of the endless sea without borders,' adding, 'When we strike, we strike in a manner that the enemy would remember forever.' The officers also credited local citizens for their role in rescue efforts after the Pahalgam attack, recalling the bravery shown despite the loss of Navy officer Vinay Narwal. On the preparedness of the armed forces, Singh said they were in 'offence mode.' Qureshi revealed that Pakistan had sent 300–400 drones, both armed and unarmed. 'They sent unarmed drones to scan India's weapon and defence capability around the Line of Control and the international border. But the Army Air Defence successfully disabled their attempts,' she said. Highlighting women's participation, Qureshi noted that over 100 women are involved in Operation Sindoor, trained on par with their male counterparts. 'This enabled them to handle the operations seamlessly.' Singh added, 'A weapon or a fighter aircraft doesn't distinguish between males and females.'

Sarang condemns ‘I-Day Pakistan' hashtag from Youth Congress account
Khargone: State cooperative department minister and Khargone district in-charge, Vishvas Sarang, on Friday alleged that an Independence Day message on Facebook page of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress carried a hashtag — 'Independence Day Pakistan. ' The message was apparently deleted soon after the controversy began. Talking to mediapersons after flag hoisting in Khargone, Sarang said, "Rahul Gandhi and Congress always talk as if they are Pakistan-loving people. Gandhi, who opposed Operation Sindoor and questioned surgical strike, is shining up his politics by speaking language of China and Pakistan and defames India after going abroad. The same mentality is evident from Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress hashtag." Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress social media chairman Devendra Bairagi, told TOI, "On Friday morning, the official Facebook account of Madhya Pradesh Youth Congress was hacked by anti-social elements in which objectionable posts were made. This incident was an attempt to disrupt the activities and communication of the organisation." He said, "Our IT team took immediate action and re-secured the account, and at present, the page is completely safe and is operating normally." A formal complaint in this regard has been given to the Delhi office. The cyber cell will also be informed for an in-depth investigation of this matter, he added.
