Cops pictured at scene of Glasgow crossbow incident after man stormed hospital
A significant police presence was seen at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow after a man armed with a crossbow entered the building earlier this morning.
The force first received reports at around 6.30am on Friday, May 23, and dispatched officers, including specialist firearms officers. The incident took place in the hospital's atrium, which was briefly sealed off as it was dealt with.
The weapon was not discharged and nobody was injured. A 29-year-old man was arrested in connection, and an investigation is underway.
Several police vehicles were pictured outside the hospital in Govan, with uniformed officers seen preparing to leave the site after the incident had been dealt with.
Some were seen to be apparently returning equipment to their vehicles, which were parked in front of the hospital's vast main building.
Traffic around the site was briefly diverted, but has since returned to normal. Police Scotland have also reassured there is no risk to the wider public.
Inspector Alyssa Fullelove-McCann said: 'I'm aware this incident will be concerning but I'd like to provide reassurance that it is being treated as isolated and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
'Officers will remain in the area while enquiries are carried out and anyone with concerns or information can speak to them or call 101.'
Health board NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, which runs the hospital, confirmed it had assisted the force with the incident and that everything was now running as normal.
A spokesperson added: "We would like to thank our security teams for their handling of this incident before officers arrived."

Dr Zubir Ahmed, the Scottish Labour MP for Glasgow South West, who is also an NHS transplant surgeon, later shared his reaction to the situation on social media.
He wrote: "I was upset to learn of the incident at Queen Elizabeth University Hospital this morning and the distress that this has caused to my colleagues and constituents.
"I have been reassured by the police that the situation has been dealt with and that there is no ongoing risk to the public and patients.
"My sincere thanks go to local staff and emergency responders for their swift and professional response."

Aaron calls killer John out over his lies in heated Emmerdale showdown
John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth)'s manipulative ways in Emmerdale have backfired spectacularly. Trying to turn everyone against his rival Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), John engineered a situation where Robert became angry with his nephew Harry, and used this to turn Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) against him. He then goaded Robert about what had happened until Robert was in despair. Aaron (Danny Miller) heard Robert smashing up his room and went to investigate, and as he comforted an absolutely broken Robert the two men gave into the feelings that they still have for each other and ended up sleeping together. Obviously it's the last thing John would have wanted, but he was busy getting some bad news elsewhere. The police had discovered that the evidence against Owen, the man John framed for the murder of Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter) was shaky at best. So from thinking he was nicely in the clear for that killing, John is once again worried that someone will finally link him to Nate's death. In upcoming episodes, Robert feels that he and Aaron have turned a corner and are meant to be together once again. Aaron, however, is full of guilt that he betrayed his husband John. He confides in Mackenzie (Lawrence Robb), who is annoyed by what he hears. Wracked with guilt, Aaron starts to think that leaving the village could be the only way he can remove himself from the temptation of Robert and make a proper go of things with John. This idea suits John very well. With the police having found an inconsistency with Owen's 'suicide note' – the document John wrote while he waited for Owen to die of a drugs overdose – the pressure is getting to be too much. There's some respite, however, when the removal man who came to take Nate's stuff away apparently confirms that Owen was the one who paid him to do the job, and Cain (Jeff Hordley) is satisfied that Owen is the man who killed his son. In the wake of this, Robert starts to think that perhaps he was wrong to be suspicious of John. But soon after that another villager finds a clue that raises disturbing questions. More Trending John has offered Mackenzie a lift in his van, and Mack finds something very suspicious in the vehicle. This leads to deadly danger for him as John realises he can't let Mack tell anyone else about his suspicions. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? Two arrested after pro-Palestine activists target Scot's arms company
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) TWO PRO-PALISTINE protesters have been arrested after they allegedly targeted a Scot's arms company 'locked' on to a van they abandoned at the front gate. It is alleged that the activists from the 'Shut Down Leonardo Edinburgh' blocked the entrance to the Italian firm's factory in the capital earlier today. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up Just after 6am it's alleged the group parked a van across the entrance before a man 'locked' himself to the roof and another was inside the vehicle. The factory was also targeted with glass jars, filled with red and green paint in a bid to block access and shut the site down. Cops attended and a specialist team was brought in to safely remove the pair It's understood that it took around five hours to remove the duo. A spokesperson for the campaign group said: "With most world leaders either ignoring Israel's genocide in Gaza, or actively involved in it, we cannot look aside while our Palestinian brothers and sisters are being exterminated. "By shutting down Leonardo, we hope to disrupt the supply chain to the deadly F-35 war planes." In December last year, a spokesperson for Leonardo insisted the company does not 'supply equipment' directly to Israel. The factory has been previously targeted by pro-Palestinian protestors for its role in supplying equipment used by the Israel Defense Forces - specifically guidance kits for F-35 jets. Last month three women were arrested after a van was allegedly driven into a perimeter fence at the site. The trio were all charged with offences aggravated by having a "terrorist connection".
