RECALL: Dubai brand milk chocolate may contain Salmonella

People are being asked not to consume pistachio and knafeh milk chocolate by the brand Dubai, as it may contain Salmonella. The product (145 g, UPC 6 11834 51237 1, Code 225.174) was sold online in Quebec. Anyone who has the recalled item is asked not to consume, serve, use, sell or distribute it. 'Recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the location where they were purchased,' states the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA). Food contaminated with Salmonella may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick. Young children, pregnant women, elderly people and those with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable. Short-term symptoms include fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea. Long-term complications may include severe arthritis. Anyone who becomes sick after consuming the recalled product is encouraged to contact a health care provider.

Waterloo region health teams get $4.1M from province to connect people to primary health care

Several health teams in Waterloo region will split $4.1 million in funding from the province to help connect people with primary health-care providers. Kitchener-Conestoga MPP and Minister of Natural Resources Mike Harris made the announcement on Tuesday at the HART (homeless and addiction recovery treatment) hub in Kitchener. The funding comes after the province put out a call for proposals where it was found there were the highest number of people on wait lists for a primary care providers. The local groups to receive funding are: Community Healthcaring Kitchener-Waterloo, which operates the HART hub. New Vision Family Health Team in Kitchener. Waterloo Region Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic in Cambridge. Woolwich Community Health Centre. Harris said in a release about the announcement that the funding will help those health teams "connect thousands of residents across Waterloo region to the care they deserve." The province said the funding is part of a $2.1-billion plan to connect everyone in the province to a publicly funded family doctor or primary care team.
