ANKARA: Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof began his official working visit to Turkiye by paying a courtesy call on Turkiye Vice-President Cevdet Yilmaz at the Presidential Complex here today (April 22).
The arrival of Fadillah, who is also Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister, at 10am local time (3pm Malaysia time) was received personally by Yilmaz.
During the one-hour meeting, Fadillah was accompanied by Malaysian Ambassador to Turkiye Sazali Mustafa Kamal and of Energy Transition and Water Transformation Ministry's deputy secretary-general (energy) Mareena Mahpudz.
Representing the Turkish side were Deputy Foreign Affairs Minister Berris Ekinci, Deputy Energy and Natural Resources Minister Ahmet Berat Conkar, economic coordinator to the Turkiye Vice-President Ahmet Oguz Sarica, and Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Vice-President Ebubekir Dursun.
Fadillah arrived here on Monday for an official working visit starting today until tomorrow. The visit is a follow-up to President Recep Tayyip Erdogan's official visit to Malaysia on Feb 10 and 11.
Fadillah later paid a courtesy call on Turkiye's Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar to explore potential cooperation in the field of energy transition following the exchange of letters of intent between the governments of Malaysia and Turkiye.
Also in attendance was Tenaga Nasional Bhd chief new energy officer Mohd Zarihi Mohd Hashim.
As part of his itinerary, the deputy prime minister is scheduled to visit the GEAS Company in Istanbul on Wednesday to explore potential cooperation that can be implemented in this strategic field.
Turkiye is one of the largest countries in renewable energy production in Europe and worldwide, with the ability to generate more than 50 per cent of its electricity capacity from clean energy sources, such as solar, hydroelectric, and geothermal, according to the ministry.
After completing his visit to Turkiye, Fadillah will lead the Malaysian delegation to participate in the Summit on the Future of Energy Security from April 24 to 25 in London, organised by the International Energy Agency (IEA) and the United Kingdom (UK) government.
The international summit will bring together global leaders, policymakers, and energy stakeholders to discuss pressing issues concerning energy security, supply stability, geopolitical challenges, and technological advancements.
High-profile participants include UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero Ed Miliband, and IEA executive director Dr Fatih Birol.
According to the ministry, the main focus of the summit will be on the security of energy sources and supply, including mapping the energy security landscape, as well as identifying risks, opportunities and actions in ensuring the security of energy sources and supply.
It said that through the summit, Malaysia's existing policies and direction, especially regarding the Energy Transition Roadmap, along with its efforts and commitment to implementing energy generation using clean fuel sources and green technology in the future, will be highlighted.
In addition, the bilateral relationship between Malaysia and the UK will be strengthened through exploring potential collaboration and cooperation, particularly in policy formulation, regulation and legislation, as well as understanding the challenges and best solutions to ensure the security and reliability of energy supply.
Fadillah will also hold bilateral discussions with Energy Ministers and heads of international energy organisations.
This opportunity will be best utilised to promote Malaysia as an investment destination and provide opportunities for various stakeholders to gain clarity on the country's policies and direction, particularly in developing the energy sector and low-carbon technology to support the country's energy transition aspirations.

Anwar shares royal compliment on Malaysia's medical expertise

PETALING JAYA: Sultan of Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah praised the quality and expertise of doctors at the National Heart Institute (IJN) after receiving treatment there. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed this during the Higher Education Ministry's Ilmuan Malaysia Madani forum titled "Transport for the People: Balancing Affordability, Quality and Sustainability of Public Transport." "His Majesty told me that, as someone with exposure to and experience with some of the world's best medical centres, he was very satisfied with the quality of service, excellence, and expertise of our doctors at IJN," he said. Anwar added that while the government welcomes criticism, Malaysians should also recognise national achievements, especially in healthcare. "So while we allow criticism, which is not a problem, we must also recognise the strengths we have, and there must be the drive to push ourselves to do better," he said. The Sultan of Brunei was in Kuala Lumpur for the 46th Asean Summit with other regional leaders. On May 27, he was reportedly feeling fatigued and was advised by health experts to rest at IJN. Anwar also spoke about his conversation with President of Guinea-Bissau General Umaro Sissoco Embaló, during which he asked why Malaysia was chosen despite limited bilateral trade. "His answer was that he follows developments here and sees Malaysia as a country on the rise, with significant potential. That's why he chose to come," he said. Embaló arrived today for a three-day visit—his first since taking office as president in February 2020. Malaysia and Guinea-Bissau established diplomatic relations in November 1974. In 2024, Malaysia's total trade with Guinea-Bissau reached RM4.1 million, with Malaysian exports amounting to RM4.04 million and imports standing at RM0.06 million.

MOHE-MOE unite to improve national education with a taste of campus for sixth formers

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) are strengthening strategic cooperation to improve the continuity and quality of national education, said Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir. During a courtesy call by Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek who led a MOE delegation, Zambry said they stressed the commitment of both ministries to coordinate the country's education policies comprehensively starting from preschool to higher education levels. Among the issues discussed was the implementation of the Form Six on Campus programme at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). The innovative programme will open up opportunities for sixth formers to gain pre-university learning experience in a higher education environment, thus building a stronger academic foundation that is relevant to future needs. 'The implementation of this programme is a significant initial step to expand the pre-university learning experience in a university setting and add value to Form Six education. We expect student registration to begin on June 10,' he said in a Facebook post today. He said the meeting also discussed the proposal to establish the National Education Council, a joint platform proposed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to unify the direction and policies of the country's education in an integrated manner, without boundaries between MOE and MOHE. The 'Telaah Programme' initiative is also one of the main focuses of the collaboration, aimed at socialising the culture of reading and strengthening the tradition of knowledge through discussions based on major works and national issues. This programme is expected to receive broad support from MOE and the Ministry of Communications to expand its reach to the school level and the general public. Zambry stressed that education can no longer be seen as a separate entity, but rather should be integrated into a common direction that unites values, knowledge and skills in order to form a credible and competitive Malaysian generation. 'We are confident that with the spirit of openness and reciprocity that has been established today, the national education ecosystem will continue to be strong from the grassroots to the highest echelon,' he said.
