Nuh deputy commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena said, "Hanif was found guilty of failing to discharge the duties assigned to a sarpanch and the gram panchayat."
The action comes amid serious findings against Hanif, including failure to uphold his responsibilities as a sarpanch and alleged complicity in enabling illegal activities. The order references key findings documented in a Central Empowered Committee (CEC) report.
CEC has been monitoring and reporting illegal mining in ecologically sensitive zones, including Basai Meo.
Basai Meo has been under scrutiny following revelations illegal road construction and mining were carried out in forest and agricultural land, directly violating Supreme Court directives and environmental norms. The CEC report confirmed the illegal construction of a 1.5km road, allegedly created to facilitate transportation for illegal stone mining.
The committee also noted inaction from the local panchayat and raised questions about the role of elected representatives.
The removal was carried out under Section 51(3)(e) of the Haryana Panchayati Raj Act, 1994, based on a detailed factual investigation report submitted by ADC and the regular inquiry officer. Hanif's dismissal comes under sections 19, 21, 49 and 50 of the Act. These sections pertain to the sarpanch's responsibility to safeguard public land, ensure lawful governance, prevent environmental damage and enforce accountability at the village level.

The DC's action follows a series of high-level investigations in Nuh district, especially in the Ferozepur Jhirka block, which has emerged as a hub of illegal stone mining. In June, the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested multiple officials of the land consolidation department linked to similar violations in Basai Meo.
The DC used the powers vested in him to remove the suspended sarpanch, signalling a clear message of zero tolerance for elected representatives found aiding or abetting illegal acts.
Meena said, "Ensuring transparency and accountability in the Panchayati Raj system is a top priority for the district administration and any negligence of assigned duties by public representatives will not be tolerated."
Sources suggest more suspensions and removals could follow as investigations continue in villages such as Rava, Pathrili and Mandikhera, where similar patterns of illegal mining have been observed.
SC has explicitly prohibited mining in the ecologically sensitive Aravali region, which includes parts of Nuh, to prevent further environmental degradation.

Former FSL chief booked for evidence tampering, caste slurs in corruption case against ex-minister
1 2 Mohali: Mohali police have registered a case against the former director of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Punjab, Ashwani Kalia, on charges of tampering with evidence and using caste-based abuse in connection with a corruption case against former Punjab health minister and AAP Mansa MLA Vijay Singla. An FIR under Section 3(1) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act has been lodged at Phase I police station after a complaint by Sandeep Kaur, assistant director (physical/audio) at FSL. Police sources said Kalia could be arrested anytime. The matter pertains to audio evidence in a 2022 case registered against Singla and his OSD, Pradeep Kumar, at Phase VIII police station for allegedly demanding a 1% commission from a contractor. Mohali police sent voice recordings purportedly featuring Singla to the FSL for authentication. Sandeep Kaur has alleged that Kalia attempted to illegally interfere in the examination process of the voice samples by pressuring her to alter the report. He also allegedly forged official seals on a case parcel to reopen and tamper with the evidence, besides hurling caste-based slurs at her in the presence of staff members when she refused to comply. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? On Dec 11, 2024, Kalia reportedly split the unit into audio unit-1 and unit-2, assigning pending cases from 2021–23 to Kaur (unit-2) and new 2024 cases to himself (unit-1). She said the controversial case involving three audio parcels was received for examination and was finalised on Aug 8, 2024. Later, Kalia allegedly began demanding the case file while claiming it fell under his jurisdiction. He repeatedly directed junior staff to break open the sealed parcels and re-examine them, despite being told the report had already been submitted. Kaur alleged that Kalia's actions were aimed at altering the findings in a politically sensitive case involving the former minister. Police said a probe is underway and action will be taken as per law. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). RS passes Bill to boost exploration and supply of critical and deep-seated minerals
Rajya Sabha Tuesday passed The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025 which seeks to boost the supply of critical and deep-seated minerals, and relax the regime for mineral conservation, zero waste management and extraction of strategic minerals. The Bill was passed through voice vote as almost all Opposition members had walked out early over their demand for a discussion on the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar. No Opposition member participated in the two-hour discussion during which 19 MPs spoke in support of the Bill. Lok Sabha passed the Bill on August 12. One of the key provisions of the Bill amending the original 1957 Act is to enable inclusion of new minerals in a mining lease. Minister of Mines G Kishan Reddy said about the government's work on critical minerals: 'Today in each sector, from automobile to defence, we need critical minerals such as beryllium, cobalt, gallium. We have identified 24 critical minerals and `32,000 crore set aside for the critical mineral mission.' He said critical mineral exploration will happen outside India in Zambia, Australia and Argentina. 'India's public sector company KABIL has begun exploration in five blocks in Argentina and production on lithium will start from next year,' he said. The government launched the National Critical Mineral Mission in January. Critical minerals are used in solar panels, wind turbines, electric vehicles and in energy storage. Earlier, CPI (M) John Brittas raised a point of order under Rule 67 and said that the Bill trampled on the rights of states, usurping powers of state governments. He said that the Bill should be sent to the select committee as it has far-reaching impacts. However, Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was in the chair, did not accept his demand.
